Really? I dont like it. Its a misnomer (as it wouldnt actually be the date of birth ... it would be the date you tamed it). Plus I like to think of my greater dragon as an ancient beast that I tamed, not show it as a 3 week old pup due to its 'date of birth'. Sure add the date that you tamed the beast but lets not call it DOB.

This would be okay if it were only visible to the pet's owner.

Honestly, I'm sick of seeing IRL years and dates on things. Completely breaks immersion.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of pets having dates on them or not - but if your only objection is showing IRL years, then why not list tamed date in Britannian Years?

It should be in the animal's animal lore information if anything.

Agree with Craftsman. Taming date is fine, but I'd not want it to be called a date of birth.

Also.. I typed this reply but closed stratics hours ago without posting it. But it was remembered. That's a pretty cool feature of the new forum!

Since Mythic can't agree with the time scale between Britannia and Earth, I'd rather have no dates whatsoever. But especially no IRL dates.

Just keep dates on pets hidden, unless someone lores the pet or is the owner.

I'd love to be able finalize the date once and for all and resolve all the various reference points we've had over the years. I thought we got pretty close with the Sands of Sosaria reward items, but if we need to fix it by all means feel free to PM me.

Adding the Britannia or real world date to the animal lore gimp I think would be pretty neat feature for a future pet update.

Also, don't forget we're Broadsword now :D

The year is currently 498 according to the original 12:1 ratio, which was kept up until Origin went away. The only issue with it is it makes time move really fast, with 1 IRL month being a Sosarian year. GLrpers are sticklers for the original date system, with certain of us going out of their way to adhere to it.

I was thinking more like how we have our toon titles or just added to the lore pages would be great too.
With whatever date format looks best for the game.

I think it'd be cool to verify tame dates and eventually maybe after some time our pets can get some cool titles like
Elder/legendary/ancient :)

Thanks for reading

Personally I like the idea of time references having a certain element of subjectivity.

If we use UO time strictly, certain things can take hours or days in a manner that'd completely break the spell.

Most people who actually imagine this stuff while they are playing it, role-players and those who say they aren't but actually are at least in part, seem either to split the difference or to imagine that RL time = UO time for some purposes (conversations, fights) but assume UO time for certain other purposes (aging of a child).

Seen in that light, attempting to nail down UO time may well cost us more than it gains us.

I liked Sands of Sosaria myself. Attempts I've heard to belittle or quibble with them, I've found, at the most, often petty.

Having said that, for your own internal purposes you absolutely need a definitive chronology, in both RL time and UO time. Frankly I'm a little tired of retcons, even though perhaps there haven't been as many over the years as some think, I'm still tired of them. Even Great Lakes's ever-capable Event Moderators can only do so much when it comes to imposing the semblance of consistency on what goes on.

But how cool would it be if it were retroactive :)

Or if it can't be maybe your pet wouldn't have a date, making it rare ;)
