Camping ... How does Camping work?

From Stratics and from UO guide it says:

In order to create a camp, you require some kindling and a bedroll. Use the kindling to attempt to ignite it. Once done, in about 30 seconds or so, you - and anyone near near you - will receive a message that the camp has been made secure. Anyone who gets the message (not just the person who created the camp) may then use a bedroll to log out instantly by placing it on the ground, unrolling it by double-clicking it, then double-clicking again to receieve a logout confirmation gump.

When I double click or single click or try to get a gump or anything the most i can do is close the bed roll again.
I can not get the gump to log out. If I log out on my own it doesn't log out.
A long time ago I remember double clicking the bed roll from inside my back pack that doesn't work either.

Any hints on how to get this skill to work?

Gotta place the bed roll on the ground (once the campfire is secure). Dbl click it once or twice and the gump should pop up

yes that is exactly what I remember and what it says on both Stratics and UOguide. It doesn't work. it only closes the bed roll.

What if you try a couple of others? I had a strange occurrence once where the bedroll seemed to go in the other direction, and a new one worked.

try drag the skill from skill list, you have to use it direcly i think...

I have tried four different bed rolls each facing both directions in different locations around two different characters both with 90 camping skill going to get GM. Two from luna two from Ocllo. I actually have a plan to USE the skill. Hoping the skill isn't completely broken.

no, skills that are used directly have the little blue button next to them. Besides I tried it anyway it doesn't come out.

Found the problem some lands doesn't work. I was in a safe area in the woods in Ter mur it wasn't working. I went to Fel and it worked fine
It says Doom it can not be used but there is error message of any kind? Like these lands are not safe to camp or something stupid like that?

BTW - this is a creepy skill to train. There is art similar to the purple lama thingy that comes up on the screen.

It dosnt work in doom because people use to use it to log off in the lamppost room so they wouldn't have to redo the puzzle to get back in each time a lamp spawned, and u needed gm camping because the room filled with poison gas after you stole the lamp, so u needed the insta log out that gm camping gave u.

I've had GM camping for almost a decade now. I think I have all all the useless skills on soul stones.

Out of nothing more than idle curiosity, I tried camping just now with kindling and a bedroll on a human with the 20 default skill, started the fire, clicked the bedroll and got only the gump asking if I really wanted to use the bedroll and then the "connection lost" screen

I would have to video it. the mysterious objects are way to fast to capture they are a flicker of light from the camp fire. They might make you jump the first time you recognize it!

makes me miss the old days when you could cook anything w/ 0 cooking. could throw out a firefield or do some kindle, cook a bird you just killed, eat it.
