So I was thinking about buying yet another Soulstone today, and had what (for me) would be considered an epiphany. Think of how many more interesting templates you could play - if - you could take any amount of points you wish from a Soulstone and leave the rest on it.

My oh my, would that ever open a world of opportunities.... ;)

Assuming you would like to put points back on of the same skill. Take some serious code mage magic to stop players from buying up a skill 4 times and tossing it on a stone. Bamm 120. Think of all the lonely golems. Stone would have to remember what the skill points was to start and not break that number.

Absolutely correct, Warpig. You wouldn't be able to add anything that wasn't already there when the initial dump was made. You'd want to train to GM or beyond and then make the initial skill transfer....Good point.

That made me think. How about a new special SoulStone that would only take 100 or 120 and nothing lower. Then you could take whatever amount you needed for a template.

Everyone enjoys training a skill. The first time. For skills that require no resources I think soulstones need a different update. Lets make it a vet reward for players that have done their time. Like 3 year old pick. The Purple Soulstone not only transfer any skill, it also can just copy a non resource skill to another charater (same account) You could keep your peace tamer intact and try out an archer paladin tamer without playing who has the skill now game. All the crafting skills would not get to be copied. Archery would get a pass even thought the skill burns ammo. Being a big fan of mining I would say mining couldn't be copied as soon as they put charges back on a lumberjack's axes. Skills that nake gains by burning regs (not casting spells, sorry scribe alky), ingots,leather/cloth and woods would not get the copy option.

Another option that could be on the Purple Soulstone has the ability to mail it through the SPS to another character on a different shard (not SP/Mugen). Could even charge a fee for using the SPS (Sosaria Postal Service). The ability to recreate your favorite templates (no Mule) on another shard on characters that have been properly scrolled up. Recreating a peace tamer on another shard is just not a good use of my gaming time. Once is enough per account. Like training then don't waste a vet reward pick.

Two skills would have to take some thinking if they can be copied. Poisoning and Lockpicker.

Way too complicated. Why not just make it so the first dump is as high as it will go, and leave it at that. Picking and choosing between skills that could be used and skills that couldn't would just make it go away as even a possibility, as it would make it too much work (time) to implement. It would be simple to program a new soulstone that would only allow you to initially put 100 or 120 points on it (and nothing less) and then take off/put back whatever you like. That would preclude the scenario where people would "buy up" a skill 4 times to get to 120. Easy to implement, impossible to abuse.

" Think of how many more interesting templates you could play" We all used too before some player with a lot of pull got the 70/90 tactics requirement put in for special moves. His words " I want UO to be a Class type game".

Ditto here kiddos
When a few templates can outdo the rest its a wonder the game is not filled with the newest "hip" design... oh wait its getting there...
Balance has gone out the window... and there is no way to equilize the playing field ... the can of worms is out and the children have run of the design... and their know how to cry foul if you attempt to make it fair for all.

No your not the only one, in fact everyone in the PvP community hated this, especially the PvP Focus group. This change was forced on us and had nothing to do with game balance. Damage caps were already in place.

Um, could we try and stay on topic pls... Feel free to start a new thread pancakes about PvP balance. This one is regarding the possibility of getting a new type of SoulStone, and whether it's a viable option.
