You can track them though as a human it may take several attempts with JOAT.
Winter ONLY plays as an Elf, and has no friends who can do this, so it's not a valid solution. At least that is what I understand from their response to me earlier.

Still, when fighting the Greater Paragon Dragons, I had to cast invis on self until my dragon was attacked first by the Paragon GD, then move up closer by a few steps and often have to cast invis again then call my Dragon to my side with the Paragon following it, to get my dragon in a spot where I can reach it, cast Greater Heal and use bandages to heal my Greater Dragon. I would sometimes get killed in the process. Often I would work three or more hours without a break, and many times had to leave the area again, take a break and return to start the battle over again.
Paragon greater dragons? Sorry if this off topic of this thread, but where do you find paragon greater dragons - and can a regular GD actually kill one?

Ilsh, around the valor champ is the place I have seen them.

These Greater Dragon Paragons are found:
Shrine of Valor - Ilshenar
Turn left (left side of the screen) and walk to bridge a few screens away.
Cross the bridge.
Turn Right or Left ... and walk around the Circumference wall of mountains outside of the forest containing the Valor Champ. These mountains form a circular wall around the whole area of the Valor Champ Forest.
I prefer to Turn left off the bridge and follow the shore for a few screens. This leads to a mountain wall with a red mage camp to AVOID.
Turn Right and walk UP screen along the mountain to an opening in the mountains on your left.
(Turning left into the valley between the mountains leads to a healer's hut which can be handy for resurrections but has occasional nasty spawn.
Instead of turning left into that mountain pass, continue walking UP and turn Right and follow the mountain to an opening between the end of the mountain and the forest. Turn up into there. There is a wide open field circled by Mountains. Work your way slowly upwards to the top of that field.
From there you can walk all the way around the outside of the Valor Champ forested area and by sticking close to the Mountains, work your way back to the bridge.
The trick is to clear away all spawn like ordinary greater dragons, giant snakes, and other monsters to get the Paragon Greater Dragons to spawn.
A Paragon Greater Dragon will eventually spawn, but usually only one at a time. That seems to rely on clearing out all the greater dragons in that open field or around the sides of the mountains. I don't go into the Valor Champ spawn area. You need other players to help with that Valor Champ Spawn.

Usually while a Paragon is in the area you'll be left alone to fight it.
Don't get so close to it that it can attack you. Stay well behind your dragon with your dragon out front when you see the Paragon.
Call your dragon to your side when the Paragon spots your GDragon. Keep your dragon close to you.
Be prepared for a long battle if you are solo. 1000 to 2000 bandages can be used with many Greater heal and CURE spells on Your Greater Dragon.
A group of players shouldn't have a tough time Two players with Dragons also can be of help but approaching or moving too fast can distract the Greater Dragon Paragon and turn his attention from the fight on to the Tamers.

When I get too tired, I simply call my dragon and recall out then go back to fight the same paragon GD again. The second round usually goes faster.

PS: Excuse all the mistakes. I haven't been hunting the GD paragons since the Account Migration Nightmare. My Greater Dragon is well trained and has good hit points and Yes, it can kill the Greater Paragon Dragon. Problem is you have to heal your Greater Dragon Pet with all three: AIDES & Greater-Heal/Cure spells and it needs FOOD! I keep a stock pile of meat on the ground from killing other Dragons or spawn and a small pile in my backpack. "Bodyguard" needs FOOD.

Will they ever put a stop to this? I'm talking about the people who stand hidden in dungeons whilst their pet clears spawn, now a common sight in the new Blackthorn dungeon. People complain about those who macro/script, but I really don't see why this should be considered a legal playstyle. The tamer puts in no effort, and is in no personal danger etc

Risso I must apologize for my posts in your thread being a bit off topic because I happen to agree with you whole heartedly. You have brought up a real issue.

My posts are only meant to show that not all tamers are interested in using their skills to exploit the game. :)

Will they ever put a stop to this? I'm talking about the people who stand hidden in dungeons whilst their pet clears spawn, now a common sight in the new Blackthorn dungeon. People complain about those who macro/script, but I really don't see why this should be considered a legal playstyle. The tamer puts in no effort, and is in no personal danger - all they need to do is pass a JOAT Hiding check and they are set to stand in the dungeon all day and receive drops. It's no great difficulty to aggro the mobs before their pet even gets a chance to target, but its frustrating to see the pet still standing guard over their hidden owner when I leave, as it likely still will be until server down.

I see it differently, personally.

Contrary to a Sampire or other templates who invest in skills that allow them to have a great defense against foes (some templates can stand melee against high end very tough foes), A Tamer needs to invest a whole lot of skill points to control/heal their pets, manage the stables and so forth which leave them way weaker as compared to other fighting templates, in their ability to self defend.

Therefore, as I see it, especially when facing high end monsters, a tamer's only survival chance is hiding.

With the above explained, I do not think that, given the peculiarity of the taming template where too many points have to be invested to handle the pet, nerfing the hiding ability would be a good idea. It could make the taming template unplayable, at least when facing high end monsters.

If the issue is dealing with the farming of artifacts unattended, other templates, without hiding, can already achieve that so, I think that other ways need be found regardless of the hiding ability.

I would think that a drop timer could be a much better solution without implementing solution that could make templates unplayable or much less playable. That is, I would much more favour a solution that implements a drop timer where a given character can ONLY get an X number of artifacts in a Y time period.

Once that character gets that capped number of artifacts then they need a downtime period before they can again start getting artifact drops.

This would, IMHO, deal with the problem of unattended farming in a better way than risking hurting the taming template by nerfing tamers' ability to hide.

That's at least as I see it.

Nerfing any template to tackle abuse is not a fair solution.
Having said that, does anyone remember what the relationship is between pet loyalty and owner visibility?
It might be interesting to 'lore' these pets to see just how neglected they are.

Whimsical thought: Supposing a pet who hasn't seen his owner for 30 minutes went home to its stable (autostabled)?

The issue that I see with capping the drops is that it would hurt the active player more than the afk bot. Active players with some luck on thier suit can get several drops per hour while the afk ones are getting closer to one. Any drop cap would result in the active player not being able to work for the drops while the afk player will still get the same number.

IMO any solution that nerfs legit skills or places a greater burden on honest player (and I do think honest players hide and let thier pets work the spawn) is the wrong approach to players of any template who afk. It is for a GM to decide if someone is afk and that is where it should remain... Enforcement of the current rules is all we need... Not more rules to hurt honest players.

Seems like the last time I tested this out my pet was losing a loyalty level every 30 to 60 minutes. Distance from the player seemed to impact it as well... ie hidden in the same room was not as severe as seperated by distance.

I can think of a few instances where your proposal would impact other areas of the game. For example, doing Idocs I would often leave my stealthers packies in my house while I am at the idoc waiting for a house to fall. This came in particularly handy for fel houses or private tram houses in high spawn areas. I would feed each of my packies before leaving knowing that would give me at least a couple hours before I needed to check them. When and if I needed them I could log and get them.

I would think the easiest solution would for all the Blackthorn baddies to have both detect hidden/reveal, and essence that causes damage to those standing near. Both of which would require attention to the game....

or the dev's could design the game system to reward drops without everything having to be total grindfest.

take the current champ spawn system. a good player with two accounts can solo a rat in say 1/2 hour. you get 12 scrolls on the drop plus if your protector takes part in the spawn prior to the boss both characters get a chance at an arty drop. You get a bit lucky you can make enough gold in that 1/2 hour to afford buying the new blackthorn items.

given this, I have absolutely no desire to head down into blackthorne, nor do I have any desire to park a guy down there afk all day and risk getting hit with the ban stick.

I don't have a hiding tamer. I do have hiding on several characters. The 'solutions' argued for nerving hiding here are not something I would be in favor of. I have never hid and let summons or pets fight, but I have used hiding to:

hide from pk's.
Hiding to get rid of monsters aggro'd onto me.
Hiding in a dangerous place while going to the bathroom.
Hiding at a champ spawn while breaking to eat diner.
Hiding in blackthorn while waiting for a new boss area to spawn
or waiting for a group to arrive to work the spawn.

Some of these solutions punish innocent users of a valid skill in this game. I say mind your own business. You people are going to nerf this game into a big blob of Vanilla Pudding.

I do not see how you can consider being AFK cheating. We used to hit golems for hours on end to gain weapon skills. As long as you were able to respond to a gm within a minute or two they did not consider it cheating. I do not have a stealth tamer but there is absolutely no reason to call this cheating. If I want to sit at my computer and watch TV across the room and not stare at my monitor for hours, thats my business. And just because someone doesn't respond to a player or interact with them doesn't mean they are unattended, maybe they just don't feel like having you waste their time. That being said there will obviously always be cheaters, but changing skills that have been around forever to try and stop a couple of people from unattended farming is a crazy idea. If you are talking about Fel then maybe they have hiding/stealth for fear of being pk'd. Its a great defensive skill after all.

An average player it may take 30min..one account I can rush a coon in 15-20..2 accounts bard buff disco the coon I'm hitting 11-12min..that's of course with a bump at first level 4-5 red candles ;)

And I tested the "afk" in the dungeon..server up to server down 2 accounts for 2 days max luck suits..30 Artie's total..let those morons afk..it's useless! You can afk 5x the amount of gold in that time then those Artie's are even worth

I sure could have used the Autostable with nightmares that used to suddenly disappear when they ran off screen after dismounting or being knocked off their back. lol They would disappear and it took ages to find them again. Now you can log off and back in to get your pets back at your side.

Nerfing a template just because someone is using it as a way to farm afk is not the answer.
One: It hurts the honest players
Two: They will just find some other way to do it.

If we nerfed hiding, they would just find some other way to do it without hiding, and THEN we would be back here whining because the tamers in the Blackthorn are still farming in the same spot (afk or not, people will still complain). If you think that the hiding skill is the only thing allowing them to farm, you're scope is too narrow.

Maybe they could code the report system so you can target a pet and the game will automatically let the GM know which player is attached to it.
Shouldn´t be an issue to the attended players. Just reply to the GM that you´re there and off he goes. It´s not like that would interupt anything as you just stand there hidden anyways...

Listen up people, if it was a real issue then hidden tamers would have been coded out of this dungeon. Since they weren't for what ever reason(I'll bet that the team has no clue what or how people might play the game) one just has to imagine that this was pre-planned and foreseen. Stop your crying for goodness sakes.

Yadd of Legends, Thanks. I appreciate the feedback and am happy to know it helps.

As usual, it came to me later that I might have made a mistake with the instructions by telling you to turn LEFT when leaving the Valor Shrine and entering Illshenar. So I came on line to check and sure enough it needs clarifying. (I fixed it - btw) It should be: TURN to the LEFT SIDE OF YOUR SCREEN or Turn to your character's RH side. Going the other way takes you to another interesting spot for the CAMP where Paragon Titans spawn along with numerous other monsters and paragons. I love hunting that spot too. Faster and furious at times but totally possible with a Greater Dragon.

Now I keep thinking about the Hidden Tamer harvesting in Blackthorn's Dungeon. I must go visit that place and see what is up. :)

My main tamer is a stealther, has been for years now. However, when I'm hunting with her, she doesn't sit hidden while her pet does the work automatically. That is totally unnecessary and I'd feel like a coward if I did that. I have a sturdy but basic suit of armour and I'm easily able to stay alive while visible. I have to be, I actively command my pets to kill and then vet them. You can't do that while you're hidden ;)

My view of AFK tamers is simple. If you aren't actively playing the game, you don't deserve the rewards that others get when they *do* play that game. AFK play should never reward the player. I certainly don't think taming needs to have an AFK option like this. It isn't difficult hunting with a tamer, even when you command your pet into each fight and vet the damage it takes. It can be tough to keep up with a full pack of 5 pets and vetting and managing a busy spawn. But a single greater dragon is easier to look after because you have 1 pet to focus on. It is a stronger pet so it can take a beating and it's more forgiving so players can get away without vetting or healing it as often. So there is no reason why a tamer also needs the ability to hunt totally AFK and get the rewards.

Having said that, I don't want to see a nerf to hiding or stealth when it is used legitimately. Only in the situations where tamers have decided to hide AFK for some spawn working.

So possible fixes I would suggest would be things like:
1. Don't allow drops or looting rights to corpses if a player hasn't commanded their pet(s) recently. In other words you need to be actively giving commands at least every few minutes or so.
2. Make the creatures do more damage to a greater dragon so the tamer has to heal their pet, not just park and go AFK.

If 1 and 2 don't work then consider:
3. Give the camped spawn creatures the ability to reveal hidden tamers.Or an area affect attack.

#3 will affect those who are moving around the spawn and might not be intending to farm it AFK, but if the spawn is a higher level item then that extra risk is a fair compromise if no. 1 and 2 don't work. Once you've got your pet fighting the spawn and you're commanding and healing it, then you're not going to stay hidden anyway. I know some tamers are a bit reliant on being hidden and secure but I think it's fair to expect spawns to be more challenging if a valuable artifact is the reward. A tamer should be actively playing to get that reward.

I love the idea of certain spawn areas/creatures having some type of reveal or area affect. This doesn't nerf hiding/stealthing in any way.. unless you are not there to of course "hide" again.

Any time you do damage, you should be revealed (like it is on every other stealth character).

I deathstrike someone, I smoke bomb, damage goes off I'm revealed.

I throw a conflag, I hide, damage ticks, I'm revealed.

Same should apply to taming. If your pet is doing damage while you're hidden you should be revealed.

Be careful if you do this though, because then everyone will quit playing Siege Perilous, because the only people that play there are stealth tamers who compassion res if you do kill them and hide instantly.

To the original poster...............this aggravates you why?? There's many things players do in this online fantasy game that isn't cool, but it happens, and nothing gets done, like book dropping. Okay a tamer is hiding, one can't prove he/she is not there.....I'm not condoning away from keyboard play style, it's down right sad and pathetic......A player can hide, and is under no obligation in the terms of service to have to communicate with anyone.

If you want to play that spot, then by all means do so. You pay the same monthly rate as the next guy. They don't own that spot.

Farming needs to be controlled actually, but like book dropping, nothing will be done.....I've been around long enough to know that.

Ok, here's the deal. My response was primarily in response to your statement that
...... everyone will quit playing Siege Perilous, because the only people that play there are stealth tamers who compassion res if you do kill them and hide instantly.
Let me set a couple of those things straight.
1) It's not Compassion that allows you to self-rez, it's Sacrifice. And Sacrifice takes much more time and effort to raise back after using it to self-rez, than if you could do it with Compassion.
and
2) If you truly think that
the only people that play there are stealth tamers
then I'll be more than happy to introduce you to Kelden or Sprago or Sir Morder or Morgan or Unclesham or (others) who would be more than happy to entertain you in ways you would find more challenging...
Perhaps you might want to move off the stealth/tamers you tire of killing, and move on to those who would be happy to oblige you in a face-to-face discussion...

Totally tired of this thread, if they are afk tamers then gm's can police it, why should hiding tamers be any different to all the other cheating classes. On my shard for the past 48 hours there has been a multiclienting (6 accounts) necro logged in to the bally room in blackthorns. All chars are on the same tile and all the balrons bodies are on the same tiles around it. The guy multi-clients with these 6 necro chars all tied to one set of commands. He used the same set up only with 11-12 necros on two 'lead' accounts for the original captain/lighthouse spawn and yes, I have reported him as he is there morning, noon and night never moving. You can't target the balron to drag it aways, trust me I have tried, as the auto script he has running targets it the second it spawns, and I mean the fraction of a sec before you can even see it he has targeted it. Then there is the archer one shot killing the mages, again, never moving from the tile they are on, not looting anything as all gold etc is left on the bodies, not talking and also there 24/7. And I mean morning when I log in, then the 3-4 times during the day when i run through there, then again before I go to bed. Always there, same spot. And then the pally in the hell hound room who is ditto to the archer.

These people just CHEAT and no one ever does anything about them. I have lots of stealth tamers, and stealth mages etc, probably about a dozen chars in total with the stealth hide combo, and I love to play them. I do NOT want them nerfed with all the silly suggestions I see in this thread just because the tiniest minority of people find a way to cheat.

Every time there is any new dungeon/spawn then there will be people who cheat to get the advantage. Saw it with treasures of tokuno, seen it with the despise mess, see it all the time with necro sampires on various mobs etc.

Stop nerfing templates just because some people abuse them. The majority don't.

If you want to play that spot, then by all means do so. You pay the same monthly rate as the next guy. They don't own that spot.
Exactly I have never had a problem from day one with anyone playing in the same place I'm in. Even hitting on the same thing I'm hitting on.Players ask to work warrior skills no problem, and I've had others try to run me out of a spot, but I just ignore them I'm good at ignoring others.
