It is nice of the EM to move valentine statue to fell Yew gate so that the reds could get one. Well, now its crowded with reds killing other players trying to get one - and the gift is not blessed. I got message I got a valentine gift in my backpack, and got killed. When I got ressed it was gone.

Just check Catskills!!!

This is just why the reds should stop crying of why they don't get things. And a VERY poor design and thing to do by EM.

I am at a trip and got a very bad connection, means I have no chance to get the valentine gift - as today was my first time to being able to log into game with pings from 800 - 1200.

Just another reason to just quit it for good.

I know it's frustrating but, I do not really see a problem with the gift generator spending some time on the Fel side.

Pick an extra up for yourself on Drachenfeld and hitch a ride with someone heading to Catskills one day.

Considering it's a shortened timer - 4 to 6 days, shard depending - that's half or more of the time they exist at all. Plus, EM_Bennu and company, no offense intended, but it's one thing to put the thing at a bank, as @EM_Drosselmeyer and the Baja and Europa EMs did. It's entirely a different thing to put it outside of guardzone, next to the Yew gate, as with Atlantic and Catskills. Also, perhaps just me, but not only are these not blessed, but they also are uninsurable (I get an error whenever I try).

I realize that sounded overly harsh against EM_Bennu. So let me be clear; I think his original location was among the best, and I've seen them all too many times now.

Best:
Atlantic (Ilsh): add some spawners of tame blue kittens, to make Oaks even more fun karma-loss-wise, and keep the cat lady!
Baja (Ilsh): Great use for that wierd spot of that cave!

Runner up:
Formosa: Great addition to the EM's house, loved the extra bits of decor around it.
Siege: A complete pain to get to, but it fit the area well, which made up for the pain getting there.

Good:
Sakura, Great Lakes: It fit the area nicely. Only negative is that the timer ran fast, and this one died 2 days early.
Yamato, Drachenfels, Izumo: Nice bit of decor in an otherwise ugly spot in Luna. (Yamato the best of the 3, imho)

Lake Austin: Not sure what exploded, but it looks like a paint store?

Poor:
Asuka, Balhae, Catskills (Tram), Chessie (Malas), Europa (Tram and Fel), Mizuho, Mugen, Napa Valley, Origin, Pacific, Sonoma, Wakoku: Just plopped in some location, without decor. (Also, the Origin town cryers have been giving the wrong location now for 2 days running.)
Izumo: Same as above, plus the timer ran fast; this one will be gone by noon EST tomorrow, a day ahead of any other except Seige.
Legends: I appreciated the really easy to get to statue, but it was just plopped in the middle of the bank.

Awful:
Catskills (Fel), Atlantic (Fel): Worst possible location. Clearly the EM messing with players, which just killed any enjoyment.
Chessie (Fel): At a bank... in Fel... for over 3 out of 4 days, so far.
Arirang, Hokuto, Lake Superior, Oceania: Pain in the neck to get to, with no good reason for the location, and no decor - just plopped in some random corner of the map.

On Lake Superior there was a reason for the location. We were supposed to find it, which none of us did. Em Aname outsmarted us all. It was great fun trying and much teamwork happened. So that is why it was where it was... plus Em Aname is adorable.

The alternative here is to just drop gifts bags in your backpack as usual. (Boring) At least here you have a choice and a challenge to accomplish your collecting goals.

I say well done to the EM Team. The Em's know what their shard likes, how to engage them, and what to do to make it fun for their Shard population.

Those of us popping into shards other than our home shards might be a little miffed at the extra challenge but really the set up was not made to engage us specifically.

LOL, well, at least this time, I mostly just skipped Atl (Fel) and focused on Izumo/etc instead, as the gifts weren't shard-unique.

You have to admit that there's a difference, though, between "run from the Jhelm gate to the guard zone while avoiding the reds" and "Run through the heaviest PvP zone, stop in the middle of it, avoid getting the gift stolen the minute you get it by all the hidden thieves, then run back to the gate, and use the gate gump (ie, can't hold the item on your cursor to avoid the thieves) without the thieves hidden there stealing it from you". I did it successfully on Atl, but I heard from many who didn't.

The statues are up for a week. One day of that they're spending in Fel. For most people 6 days is surely enough to collect the gifts?

Petra, that's the problem, I think - it was longer than a day. Atlantic has been there 3 days now, Chessie spent 3 days there, Cats is still in its first day, Baja's spending a little over 2 days in Fel total, Europa spent a day in Fel, and I think I'm forgetting one. Chessie was in Fel for the entire weekend, when people would have free time to claim these, and knowing EM_Bennu, who knows if Atl will ever move back to Ilsh?

By the way, only the first half of the clickys had 6 days when they were placed; most of the rest had only 5 by the time they actually went in place. (Siege only had 3).

Lets see K.I.S.S. Wait till it was back Tram side. Bunch of half naked players off their home shard getting a bloody warm welcome. Rewards like this should come in a deed form. Opened outside the characters house gets a group of gifts. Opened in your home gets another group of gifts. Each area has a chance of a really rare gift that has different art based off character's karma. Not sure letting the EMs make the statue an easter egg hunt is a good ideal.

Not to argue for or against any specific play style here, but I decided to enhance the fun of the "ebil PK's" a bit. When I stealthed in and got my silly little thingie from the statue I noticed that blue, well then gray, characters were killing the newbies too. Their previous "Glorious Lord's" karma was falling fast. So...I went back with newbie characters, ran up to the statue, never clicked it and let them kill me. They netted a murder count and I lost nothing. Needless to say every blue was very red when I was done cycling several characters through but never actually selecting the gift. Just a different perspective for those taking umbrage to the location of the statue.

This is just my opinion and observation. I could never really understand why players get so upset getting killed by other players, when they get killed by monsters all the time. Isn't going up against another player considered the highest form of PvM?

I am on Catskills. I don't mind the fact that they moved the statue to yew gate fel. Last night I heard that a couple of my guild members went to yew, and pushed all the reds in to houses, and while they were taking over yew, about 50-60 noob characters came to get their gifts lol.
Its also nice to have the option to collect said "gifts" on your red characters. They are gifts for everyone right?

What I DO have a problem with, is the entire gift system with this setup. It takes away many things that I use to find enjoyable about receiving holiday gifts, such as...
1. Convenience
2. The fun in finding the "rare" gifts.
3. The fun in shard trading gift bags.
4. The ability to just log in and not have to fuss with running to Jamaica.

I am sure many people prefer this new method and that is fine.. For me... I choose to not even mess with it much. Someone else can just have my "gift". =)

I have absolutely zero problem with the statues being moved to Fel... even 50% of the time.

The only issue I have is the lack of communication. There needs to be either a standard between shards or the dates they will be available on each facet communicated either at the location of the statue or via the news system. Some of us aren't on every day. I'm not super upset as it isn't something I'd use in my home, but if it was I could see how I would feel really irritated. If I had seen the timer, I would assume I had that long to collect my gift and plan accordingly. If that time was suddenly cut in half and the only way I could collect it would be to attempt to get the NON-BLESSED item from Felucca and hope it isn't stolen or looted... I'd be a bit irritated. The reverse is true. If I had a red character and expected to be able to be able to get a gift and suddenly could not because it was moved to a Trammel ruleset... I'd be irritated too.

In the future, please set up a standard time frame for these things and communicate it to the players either in-game or via the UO News system. Tell players it will be in a Trammel rule set of the EMs choosing the first three days and moved sometime after x time to a Fel ruleset (or vice versa). I feel by doing so... EVEN at a 50% shared ratio between rule sets... you will find many of the players who are upset now will not be. Lack of communication causes more problems than the situation in most cases. If a player knows exactly what the time frame will be they can plan accordingly and not lose out on an opportunity to get a gift.

I don't know about anyone else but ...... I miss getting gifts with MY name on them. It's ok and all to get it to ME from whoever DEV/EM what have you but honestly I hate the new system.... I miss having MY name on stuff.

And I agree with others... I miss it going to my pack without all the BS of finding the stupid clicky. It's a gift for gods sake.... Or at least it's supposed to be. Not much of one if you have to waste hours on end at it.

I'm sorry but it just ruins the spirit of giving and the holiday for me. You know I started collecting them.... then after a few shards I was like well lets see..... they don't have anything different on another shard.... it's all the same crap..... no new names...... nothing "rare" about them....... already got 50+ on my own shard.... seriously WTF are you doing??? So I quit. I picked up mine on GL's and Siege..... and a few other shards I play on but outside that I honestly think... what a waste.

I just want to go back to the old system... pretty boxes and all. I think the new way IMO is LAZY on the part of the DEV's. They make one maybe 2 items.... color change them... to make a few "varieties"... then pass them off on the EM as a clicky.. no box, nothing. Well that's a fine how do you do to the community. There are much better ways for the EM's to do nice things for their communities... Like spread some holiday cheer by hosting events.... decoration up the land for the holidays.... etc than stiffing you on your gift or making you play some stupid hide and seek with it.

Honestly... I want my name on stuff again. I personally liked the arrows and cards that let you do things for your friends. Not that we don't appreciate collecting names of DEV's and whatnot but honestly on my shard WTF do I care to get something from some EM on a shard I never play, whom I've never heard of??? Means next to nothing to me.

People like collecting, they like the rares, look at Angel boxes, the mulicolored boxes, the Europa Gold Harpsichords..... etc... that's what people like.... getting the "special" gift. Not playing your silly hide and seek game. A gift is only a gift if it's given...

I wouldn't worry too much. The puppies and kittens are being given to each character per account and you don't have to be 30 days old. So basically you can create a new character quickly and get one. Soon all these poor starving puppies and kittens will need to be rescued from the trash heaps of the abyss as their neglectful owners stop taking care of them.

P.S. Know anyone who wants a few hundred lobster dinners by candle light served on a silver tray?

As for the bit about the statue moving...
I liked the idea of it going to fel.. I like being fair to the red players characters as i know many have only reds.
But...
Let me point out that some of our population have limited time to be on the game due to work, family, or health.
Mind you I do understand it had days... but when you have 2 days a week free like someone i know of and both days the statue is out of reach for most of their lower characters... it means they settle for 1 or 2 and then hope to buy a few at a reasonable price...
I do understand the EM's want for wimsy but 1 set location should have been chosen per facit... it would have been nice for 2 statues one for the red/fel players and one for the tram side. But i do understand and agree the move was good... i just wish many had been told before the placement was made out of reach for many. Players could have planned the gift getting more readly.

As for siege ... I finally got a few for my homes... you cant import to siege so getting a pupy and a kitty did matter to me... i didnt go for them to collect but as a cute adition to my homes... they are damn cute.

Dont worry we wont need a ASPCA for unloved kittys and puppys.... drop them off at my house(s) I like them.. hehe

to be honest, i love that idea... well... i love it more than em/dev names as that is getting to be old. Cities are near and dear to some peoples nostalgia. Dev names.. well... i feel like its a bit narcissistic to keep making "rares" because it has your name on it. ok i don't love it.. i just like it more than seeing dev names plastered on anything of value.

Awesome idea. You could even have different breeds consistantly come from different cities. Maybe mutts come from Sanctuary! One annoyance I've not seen expressed here yet is the sheer size of "complete sets" of gifts anymore. There were what, like 60 lobsters? Now there's 120 different pets in this set. I just finished my snowglobes (except for Blackrock Dome ). I am simply not going to try for every possible pet in the set, even if I had the space to store it.

Player cities.

They're pretty well all on record at EA, it'd just take making sure that "Pitbulls from Pitmuck" only spawn on Chessie, and so forth.

Wasn't anyone around at all on Cats and the 2 reds I saw on GL ignored me.

We get free gifts, one per character on each shard, and people complain. Every single friggin' time we get gifts, any gift, someone complains. It's not even as if these puppies and kittens actually do anything, and the artwork is some of the worst that I've seen in UO. If you really want one, you can buy them cheap!

Dear Devs - please do not give us gifts ever again. We do not deserve them.
