Okay so I posted a little over a week ago about coming back to the game after a four year break. Now I don't want to say I am not enjoying myself because in fact, I am having a ball. However, with that said let me tell you a little story and I will follow it up with a single question.

I finally got onto my fisher and took the dragon ship out on the Felucca waters. It only took about 5 minutes until this ENORMOUS ship filled with Orcs came along and started attacking me. My first thought was "HOLY CRAP!" I didn't have macros really and figured they were just orcs I could handle them!

WRONG! These were wheatie eating, steroid pumping, red bull drinking orcs from hell! I had a difficult time trying to navigate the boat and play with the orcs. I called in my son to help me kill them off and finally after about 30 minutes we got the boat going in the right direction and managed to kill the Chuck Norris orcs! (Very happy moment by the way)

So I go to try and loot but I can't reach them, I try to get on the boat and can't find a plank but I learned that if you click the rope on the deck it basically tells you to screw yourself because you don't have permission to board! So I sat there for a moment thinking... well if everyone is dead then who the hell is there left to give me permission... right?

Enter general chat (which is a little chaotic and crazy and people still mouth off and boaster about pvp! Nice to know that some things don't change.) I was told in chat that I needed the High Seas Expansion and an uber ship to board the boat. So I rush off, buy high seas and run to the shipwright! Well he doesn't sell the uber boats and back to chat I went. Now I am back on the water trying to find some kind of floating market with no other access other than by boat. (I would just like to say that with the Sosaria Technology and these new fangled teleporters that can transport you from one house to another that maybe, just maybe the idiot merchants on the dock would have considered an easier way to visit their shops!)

Okay so I now have an uber boat! Very excited and tossed it into the water and spent the next twenty minutes telling it to raise anchor, forward, back, right, left and even a few curse words along the way! The usless guy on my boat doesn't seem to want to recognize me as his captain! So I did what any good captain would do and tried to make him walk the plank with an ebolt. WRONG AGAIN!

Finally I click the wheel! (Would have made sense 18 minutes prior right?) I'm stuck in place and can't walk, surely this isn't right! The whole damn time my boat is moving all over the place and I'm not paying any attention because I am trying to release myself from being paralyzed! I just new that jerk on my boat that I tried to ebolt was behind it!

Moving right along... I'm a little slow sometimes but that's okay. I can accept that. Now I find a new boat of orcs and spend another 20 minutes to get them killed and go to get on the boat to claim my booty! WRONG! Back to general chat only to learn I have to shoot the boat with cannons to gain access.

NO PROBLEM!! I hop on the crafter, make a few cannons put them on the boat and I'm ready to go! WRONG! SO it takes me the better part of an hour of searching online (Which by the way I should have started with that first but got excited!) to learn that I need an alchemist, tinker, carpenter, tailor, cook and a blacksmith!

Crafting - No problem I got all this... but now I spend the next day trying to get all the crap I need just to stuff a metal ball down a tube! Wonderful... I have to go BACK to the floating market that no one is at because you have to sail to get to it and buy salt peter! So I do all of this and now I finally have all my ingredients made and my brain hurts like there is an iron beetle in the digging for gold. I have yet to try to fire the cannons as I am afraid it is going to take 15 people and 800 cannon balls just to get on a stupid orc ship! Which I will cry like the girl that I am if I get on this thing and get 500 gold and a lesser explosion potion.

So here is my question.....
Do the people who work on the development of this game get drug tested?! LMAO!!!

*laughs* That was a great adventure!! :) Becoming a pirate hunter is no easy task! I am not sure how you will take it when you find out that you not only have to disable the ship with cannons but you also have to beat down the dread pirate captain, tie him up and deliver him to the market! (it is a quest)

Oh for the love of everything holy! Are you serious. I am not trying to find a ship to kill in Tokuno, is there a place here to get the quest?

You get it on the floating market from G.B. Bigglesby. I should mention that you don't have to capture the pirate captain alive in order to loot the ship (at least I don't believe you do). But you would have to kill him. One of the rewards for turning him in could be a piece of the plans to build an orc ship of your own!

He should be in the building at the very top of the market..maybe someone else took his place?

Its a long time since I did this quest and I cant remember the guys name even but he used to reside in the building at the North of the Emporium in the West building. He was the proprietor I think.

The Fishing and Treasure Hunting forum is your friend... This thread might interest you. Also, do a search for pirate in that forum (and have it only search titles) and you'll find all the info you could ever want...
Oh, btw, your story was EXCELLENT - so do share more of them with us! ;)

You can also do the pirate quest from the docks south of Zento. Much less boring sailing to and from as the pirates are relatively nearby.

Thank you all for your advice, links and council! It has really helped a lot. I can remember the days when all I had to do was slap on some invulnerable armor and my vanquishing pitch fork and I was ready to rock the world! Now I have learned that you must be a rocket scientist to even dress yourself!

I can remember some 10 years ago becoming one of the first UP pirates on Atlantic with Yblarbo Janks and Cara Delacroix. We would sail around and make people sing stupid songs to keep us from killing them. Was great fun!

My adventure here begins again and I am sure you will hear from me again soon!

Oh man, your post made me laugh, thanks, I needed that! I always meant to go through all the hoops it would take to take a pirate run but never got up enough initiative to do so - please post a follow up when you finally finish one - I like to see happy endings. ;)

Okay. "*@$&@^!!!" I finally get this done, kill all the guys on the merchant ship, blow up the ship so that now when I attack it with cannon balls it doesn't even take damage and it tells me "You don't have permission to board the ship". Can someone pretty please tell me what the heck I am doing wrong here?

You attack the ship at the back I think until you see the damage. Wait! you are attacking innocent merchant ships!!!? It probably works the same as orc ships but I don't think there is anyone to capture. Those poor merchants..tsk tsk

ARR! I be a pirate now! A HUGE thank you to Lestat on the fishing forums and all of you for your help. I sincerely appreciate it. And to answer your question Miri, you bet your rear I attacked those merchants! They deserved it, you should have heard the things they were saying to a lone woman out on the seas! They should be ashamed of themselves!

Turns out that you have to keep bombing the stupid ship until it has huge holes in the deck. I was confused because when I kept shooting it showed no damage so I stopped. Look out Felucca Waters! Evil Skittles is about to go postal.

Oh well if you were defending women of the sea that is different!! *laughs* If you do decide to rid the seas of those roving orc pirate ships make sure you come up behind them so they don't see you coming. Good luck!!

Amusing story :)

After being away from the game for 4 years you hopped on a boat to do some fishing and along the way you ran into some serious setbacks/adventures and had a lot of fun.

Pretty sure that means that the devs did a great job with an expansion.

If you had hopped on your boat and had no adversity while doing the same old fishing you remember from 4 years ago would you have come to these boards to tell your cool tale?
Would you even still be playing?

Hrmmmm

Just for future reference, and it's extremely long because I go into full detail and show most of the fighting (and some fiddling about), but I did a guide to Piracy against the Orcs here;

If you can handle this you can take anything at Sea. I don't do as well as normal with the first example though :p

Now to experiment with the YouTube auto music thingy...

Dang.... waaaay too complicated for my fisher. I'd never be able to keep all that strait, stay alive and manage to do enough damage to the captain. Thanks, though, that was a fun watch and now I know what I'm missing!

Ha ha you did better than me, I got to the need alchemist, tinker, carpenter, tailor, cook and a blacksmith and thought what (*^(&%^*(&&% brilliant plan was that, got the poops with the whole thing and decided to forget it. I have all the trades, but the rigmarole was just not worth the effort. Having returned nearly 2 yrs ago now I have yet to do a pirate ship. If it was ONE trade making all the stuff I would probably be ok, but the whole set up is tedious and I am just not into anything that requires a lot of tedium these days.

Back in the day, before AOS, I had just enough magery to recall on my fisher and that was enough to kill sea serpents and get MIBs (stick a poison and use a gheal wand). After AOS, which was released in 2003 (11 years ago), I moved fishing over to my tamer. I figured that would be the best thing to do for a future guaranteed to be harder for a pure fisher/crafter, and once they released ancient SOSs, I proved to be right.

The Pirate ships (or Merchant ships) are all about getting a rhythm. The preparation is rather tedious, but killing the Orc crew (or the merchants) is far less challenging (IMO) than killing, say, a Leviathan. At first I did Pirate ships with a crew, as that was by far the best way to piece together an Orc ship. When they added the white dye tub as loot, however, I decided to do more solo runs, and as those have noted through word and video, it isn't too much of a chore to solo one of these ships down. Since release, though, there have been several bugs, including invulnerable Pirate ships.

All in all, I enjoyed the new content for what it was. I would suggest checking out the New Magincia Bazaar for resources. I would also read about Niter Deposits. Some monsters in the re-vamped Shame dungeon also have High Seas resources, but that really isn't a viable way to get them. But as with anything, the reward is only as good as the expectations. For me, I enjoyed being able to do something fun and new I could solo. But in the end? I stopped because of the reason I gave up ships in the first place: decay over time. If I could have an auto-refresh ship then I would more consistently be engaged in sea adventures. Of course, that's just one of the many things I wish the team would consider.

Don't forget too that the Kings Collection pack has an item that generates the Heavy Powder Charges ; As mentioned elsewhere, the Niter can be dug up just by wandering around the cliffs in Ilshenar, and that's based on Luck, not Mining oddly. You can craft a basic, 1100 luck suit which is enough to get Gigantic deposits most of the time. Doesn't solve all of the complications of course, but does make it a bit easier!

I have all the stuff required to make it all, and the ships painting etc etc, my problem is the whole tedious nature of it all. I even went so far a month or so ago to actually get everything ready after shelving it for a year or so. By the time I had adequate supplies of everything I was 'done' with it again. TEDIOUS is all I can say.

I have always loved fishing in uo, something to do when you can't be bothered straining your brain, I looked forward to actually having something different to do while fishing, but the drag involved in preparation for this, the totally ridiculous idea that you can't dry dock your ship with quest crates on it, the total boredom of every time you need something from the fish market you have to row over to the bloody place is just a total let down. what could have been a great and fun expansion turned out to be a total lesson in how to bore yourself silly. Just my view but to me the whole high seas expansion was a waste of my money as everything associated with it has a level of tedium built in that I am just not into any more.

Did you know that Chuck Norris doesn't get wet? Water gets Chuck Norrised. Similarly, Chuck Norris doesn't use Google to search. Google uses Chuck Norris to search. And then destroy.
