Yesterday I bought a legacy token for a green soulstone to stone provo on my bard to build hiding. Today the stone with the 107 provo skill points is gone. I thought I locked them all down when I was moving them but obviously missed this one. Empty space tonight looks like an ugly missing tooth. I'm so disgusted at the thought spending all those hours again to rebuild 107 provo points, especially since I just spent a week building up peace. Sometimes this game seems so harsh when you miss something. Just like life, I suppose you would say. Flame on.

Why people store these things locked down in their houses has always mystified me. Sure they're animated and glowy, but one mistake or random revert and you're out not only an expensive item, but days/weeks/months worth of time.

Play it safe and keep them in your bank, use them from the west room of the inn in Luna.

I'm not into deco at all. My house looks like a warehouse, totally laid out for function. So I'm not interested in how the soulstones look but how quickly I can access them. I sometimes use soulstones several times daily, swapping skills among several characters. All my characters can quickly log in and out of my house and use the soulstones. Maybe I'm missing something, but how could all your characters use a soulstone that was locked in one character's bank box? I can't visualize the logistics of this.

I keep them at home because various characters share the same skill. I suppose other people do the same.

Mostly because i swap skills among characters often.

If I swap skills, I bring them to a house and put them in a secure. When I'm done they go back to the bank. Security over expediency. The majority of my characters can recall, so traveling isn't much of a factor.

Its just way to easy to forget to lock something down. :(

just leave them in a secure in the house - it's the best method
Well, now there's an idea I didn't realize was possible. I always thought soulstones had to be locked down on the floor to use them. So I put one in a chest and tried it and, behold, you can use them while they are in a locked and secured chest. I never knew that. So I've learned something through my unfortunate mistake. Good call, Kojak.

Why so? You can gm lock picking in 3 days or less now depending on how you want to do it. I have 4 lock pickers spread on my accounts now.

5 chests and a afternoon and you can GM lockpicking.
its not 1/100th of the pain it use to be.

OP, i hear your pain.
ive 'been there' and 'done that' more times then id care to admit to.
you could probably count how many times ive done it by how many keyboards ive had to replace.
sometimes it does not pay to be the item immediately underneath the fist of someone who is ticked off.

As I am sure you can do with just about any skill with enough patience or hazarding a try and afk scripting. But no thanks...no longer have the patience for grinding skills that aren't fun to grind. That and I am not into doing the afk scripting.

The best place is in the bank. Period.. end of story. When you want to swap skills, you just go to the bank. Never loose them by forgetting to lock it down (been there done that) or the event that a house falls unexpectedly (got a t-shirt from that experience too). Large bag, 3 or 4 bags inside to fill with warrior / mage / crafter stones. Easy. Fast. Safe. NEVER lose one.

if you want an alternative, just stash them in a secured bag in your house, as others have suggested. I started out with them all out for deco, but for various reasons--largely too many, and to me, they're not worth all being out--I decided to just bag them.

as for the lost skill, best bet, to save time, would be to get a mythic character token for $25. won't get you back the $10 spent on the soul stone but will get you 90 skill in up to five skills, which should at least shave some time off.

Yea, I'll probably go the mythic route this time around, soon as I figure out what character to strip down to use it and what other skills to add. It would be easier to be able to just buy the one skill at this point - or sell me an eighth character slot on this account.

Before soulstones if ya wanted to experience new templates without dropping skill, open another account. The EA accountants must of been on vacation when they infused UO with soulstones. Part of less players and all this housing space is due to multi account players slimming down. The gypsy camp ran off with with my free green soulstone with mining.

I have never afk scripted in my life. EC for the win, you use gm crafted boxes, get about 20 in your pack, lock em with a key, then set a macro to unlock-delay- relock, unlock-delay-relock ditto ditto ditto repeat x 10 and then copy the macro in the xml file to repeat for a gazillion times, run the macro til you get to around 70-80 skill while reading a book, browsing forum or something while keeping game screen on one half your monitor in front of the puter once you get to around 80, go to the weald and do the satyr trick for a while about 2-3 hours to get to where you can be discorded and be able to attempt to open a miasma chest (about 70-80 when discorded from memory) but fail continuously til you gm it you get the last 20 points of gain just trying to open the miasma chest. Think last time I did it I didn't even bother with going to the weald until I could open the miasma chest then went there back to boxes until the miasma was doable again. Plus SOTS are your friend at the end anyways. Alacrity scrolls are your friend when at around 50-80 skill. Not sure on exact skill numbers as has been a while since my last one got trained, but as I said 3 days at around maybe 4-5 hrs ea day will gm it. Lockpicking is an easy skill these days but if you don't wanna 'grind' it as you think it may be do an hour a day for a couple of weeks *shrugs* It is NOTHING like it used to be to raise esp with the EC macro training.

Also helps to know someone that can make boxes with tinker skills of 45, 65, 85, and the easy GM made.

I actually had chars with 40 and 70 tinkering and tried boxes of all levels on the third one I trained, the problem was no sooner had I run the macro a couple of times the skill gains were so quick, especially if using alacrity scrolls that the boxes opened way to easily and had to upgrade them. The forth one I trained I just started with bought skill and gm boxes, seemed to be much quicker as I didn't have to redo the macro for new boxes all the time. Failed tons the first 2 runs but after that it was fine. I would put the unlock-delay-relock with the target 'stored' for the picks, boxes and keys for 20 boxes, repeated the whole lot 10 times, so just the initial macro was doing 200 openings/relockings for one run of the macro, but then would 'edit' the macro in the xml file by copying and pasting the 'actions' so that it would do about a thousand of em, didn't matter if it 'failed' or if it opened the box and the next run it couldn't open on that particular box as it would 'lock' it the next go round anyways. Not really a grind if you spread it over a couple of days, just when you would normally be on the puter doing stuff have it run and just hit the hotkey for the macro every time it runs down. Depending on how many repeats can be anywhere from 10 mins up, however mine generally would run for about 20-30 mins before I would need to set it off again, although given I am never afk when training I would just hit the hotkey whenever I thought about it as I would be sitting there doing something else so the macro wouldn't 'stop' for the whole time I would be at the computer.

I only play EC and kinda object to the assumption that you must be afk scripting tp be able to raise a skill like this quickly. As for grinding all skills are a grind when you are raising them from 40 skill if you want them done any quicker than a few days. IMO the EC eliminates the need to even bother cheating and using illegal scripts especially when it comes to training any skill.

Yes, I also do this. All my SS are kept in a lock down box right next to, within reach of all my crafting containers. Last night was on a ship and took heavy damage, OK, was scuttled. Took my pirate home, recalled from the ship. Swapped skills to give her carp for repairs, recalled back to ship. Matter of seconds. Sorry about your loss, hard skill to GM, I'm on board with those that wish the house sign would give a warning when you leave with an unsecure item inside.

There are a couple of shards that I know of where soul stones have been saved from idocs (at least until they became valuable as trash *frowns*). There is one on Sonoma and I noticed Siege Perilous has a sticky thread on their forum for keepers of soul stones. There might be something similar on other shards.

Of course that doesn't help Yadd..sorry for your lose Yadd.

you only need 1 box at each skill level to work lockpicking now

I have 1 box at 50 tinkering and 1 at 100 and that's it - works fine - but if you want to continue to use 10 or 20, be my guest :)

(after all, people still thinking eating does anything in this game so why stop now)

Well, I am sorry for the loss but at least nowadays it is possible to build up again the skill much more easily as compared to what it used to be.

Before, it was only through time and skill practise, while now we have advanced character tokens and also Scrolls of Trascendence. It is not difficult to find 10 or 20 points for any given skill SOTs....

Update on my “Disgusted” post.
Losing a soulstone is a lot less painful than it used to be.
Just three days after failing to lock down a stone with 107 provocation and losing it, my bard is back at 107 provo (he uses a +13 ring for 120 – maybe eventually he will go for 4 x 120)
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
This is no news to most of you veterans, but I was reminded that several things have changed since I last raised the skill by provoking hundreds (thousands, actually) of monsters several years ago.
Mythic token to start rebuilding at 90 – it was well worth the $25 in this case
Scrolls of transcendence – I had several from T hunting, and somebody on my shard gave my several more, so I actually only had to go from 90 to 99.9. The pink scrolls came out in late 2008, I believe, right after I trained up my bard the hard way last time.
The easy macros in the EC client, which didn’t exist last time I raised bard skills. Just set the skill you want to use, set the delay in the next slot, repeat as many times as you want, then set the whole string to repeat 10 times.
Bard mastery, which raises provo even faster than using the skill.
Finally, I took the suggestion to store soulstones in a secured chest instead of locked on the floor. Not only are they safer, it’s actually quicker to use them in the chest than walking around them trying to see what’s on them.
We do learn from our mistakes.
