Test Center Patch Notes

Vendor Search Improvements

Players will not see these improvements for the first 3 hours until the data base has been rebuilt.

• Added the ability to search “Artifact Rarity” values = Know issue, Search returns artifacts of that rarity and above instead of just that rarity.


Vendor Maps:
• Added message when vendor map is placed in backpack.
• Removed ability to sell vendor maps to mapmakers.
• Removed ability to use vendor maps to teleport during combat.
• Increased distance allowed for teleporting around house sign.
• Added the ability to pay for teleporting with gold in backpack.
• Removed the ability to use a vendor map as a recall rune.
• Added the ability to open the container containing the vended item when within 19 tiles of the item.
• Added a check to make sure an item is still for sale before allowing the player to teleport to the item.

Vendor Searching:
• Changed numeric search string restriction to only block numbers under 1000.
• Changed text search to look for each word individually.
• Added ability to sort results by price from high to low.
• Added ability to remove individual search criterion.

Vendor Results Menu:
• Fixed item properties display for empty strings.
• Fixed display of some add-on items.
• Added commas to price display.

Bug Fixes

• Corrected issue where only the character that placed the house is allowed to customize the house.
• Corrected issue where goza mats were becoming unusable.
• Cupid’s Arrows will now work during the month of February.
• Discordance is now considered a hostile act when used against player pets; players may now only use peacemaking on player pets that are freely aggressive

I wish the sub-menus didn't close after choosing a category, but would stay open to allow for more choices. If I want to search for more than one resist (Physical, Fire, etc.), I have to go back and add each one individually. That's a bit annoying.

Except that I searched for Artifact Rarity and it came up with a positive search result, so the database was rebuilt already.

I didn't state that correctly anyway, the "MISSING STRING" that I got was in the search menu criteria, not in the search result. There was no patch to download, so maybe that has to come first.

I hope you haven't left Siege "high and dry" with no ability to gate to vendors. We have a very active shard, and certainly deserve to be able to somehow use the map to gate to the vendors.

As long as you can own a home within a guard zone, prices of luna homes will no doubt always be high. But they will no longer be insanely priced like before. And we'll see a LOT more activity in the hinterlands again, FINALLY. ;)
And I, for one, couldn't be any happier with that scenario. :cool:

Does anyone have any idea what "freely aggressive" means when talking about player pets?

Can you use the peacemaking skill on your own pet if you told it to kill you? (Yes, I know the "stop" command may be a better solution.)
Can you use the peacemaking skill on your own pet if you told it to kill another character? (Yes, "stop" might work better. I just want to know the answer though.)

Can you use peacemaking skill on someone else's pet if its owner commands it to kill your bard?

I guess it's time to go test this. I hope it hasn't totally borked the peacemaking skill for PvM purposes and for PvP purposes if your bard is using the skill to defend himself/herself from being attacked by another player. I have peacemaking skill on a couple of my characters on Siege and have held onto the slim hope that maybe, just maybe, it might someday give them a split second headstart on getting away from a certain PKer's pets. Hope that hasn't been ruined with this change.

Read it again. It's the OLD database until it has been rebuilt and replaced...

I'm seeing better results, and some searches that were failing now work. Good job! :)
Three things still needed though... *Please* make "Enter" while in the search text area run a search, don't make me then go click that little tiny button. Second, the "cancel" and "search" buttons are both way too small for that gump - they should be at least 200% that size. And last, the tiny "cancel" and "search" buttons are so close as to nearly be on top of each other, in a gump that otherwise has a huge empty right side. While enlarging them, please separate them - way too easy at the moment to click on the wrong button without meaning to.

Luna houses aren't in guard zone.

Read my post again. You will get this error in the search menu until you patch.

The "MISSING STRING" was in the search menu NOT the search results, and had nothing to do with the database being rebuilt. The "MISSING STRING" appears to be the new Sort Search and Artifact Rarity functions. The download patch wasn't available at the time and caused the error. I'm patched and the menu has no errors this morning.

It's not an everyday template, of course, but I'll take it as a small improvement to eliminate what's occasional. At this point, well, I guess we should take what improvements we can get...

Energy fields are trickier. I don't see an easy fix because there isn't a way for the game to discern intent. It would have to be something like running into a Felucca e-field, getting bounced back, but taking minimal damage and flagging the caster. Presumably the game should have no trouble with that, since it can determine that a player is blocked from stepping onto any of a field's ties. It would be like the old, old days of noto PKs running into someone's fire field, but this would certainly solve blue accomplices.

The new search is way better. Nevertheless, there is still one major issue I have with it. I want to search for items, which are:
  • NOT cursed
  • NOT brittle
  • NOT "cannot be repaired"
  • NOT elves only
  • NOT gargoyles only
emphasis on NOT.

Another thing, which would be extremely useful:

There are no criterias for armor materials. I.e. leather, chain, studded, dragon armor, plate, etc. I could live without material criteria, if I would have the following search criterias:
  • light armor (medable, no inherent LMC bonus, no stam loss prot. bonus)
  • medium armor (non-medable, 3% inherent LMC bonus, medium stam loss prot. bonus)
  • heavy armor (non-medable, 1% inherent LMC bonus, big stam loss prot. bonus)
If these two things make it into vendor search, I would say, ok, ready for prod.
But if you really wanna ramp it up, here are more suggestions from me: Vendor Search - Search Criteria

AGREED. There are search selectors for Cursed, Cannot Be Repaired and Brittle - this is backwards from what it should be. These should be NOT selectors in the menu.

"freely aggressive" means an action which does not cause the player to be flagged on the target. This can also be viewed as an action on a target that the player has already flagged on.

ok, so went on and tried it out.
searching for power scrolls IS a lot better.
as long as you can type and are not illiterate.

which means for me its a pain in the south facing barn door.

if you type 'Power Scrolls Healing' you get all healing power scrolls. lots to go through.
if you want to narrow it down my LEVEL you have to actually type either Exhalted, Mythical or Legendary scroll healing.
which is painfull.
there is also no way to correct spelling, so if you spell something wrong in the first word you have to delete everything to get back to the first word.
i know, not game ending, but again a pain in the south facing barn door.

if you can search for every ring and watch by skill why cant we search for power scrolls by ticky box as well?

being only able to see 4 items per page i dont know if i have to go through 2 pages or 200 pages of results.

any way to have it remember previous searches?
would save on a lot of typing.

and about the above comment about 'DE-selecting' cursed and stuff, thats a great idea.
i see we CAN select those options but i would never waste money on a item that had any of those attributes so seeing items return that didnt have those on it would be what i need.

does look a lot better though.

send it back into the oven one more time and let it cook a bit more and i think this cake will be ready to go!

It's not as bad as it sounds... using shorthand phrases works well...

Search for "legend myst scroll" and you get exactly what you were looking for. Still, you have a valid point.

Thank you, Bleak. After reading your post, I logged onto two accounts to check some things out. First I checked out how things seem to work on a regular shard now, using Balhae as that shard, and then I checked the same situations on Test Center. Unfortunately, I couldn't check everything I wanted to because I don't have any red characters!

Here is a bit of a summary for the results of my testing (further details below these bulleted items):
  • I did not notice any kind of flagging on Balhae or Test Center for the bard when using the peacemaking skill on another player's pet. I turned on the option to get a warning when attempting to perform a criminal act and nothing popped up when using the peacemaking skill; however, I didn't think to turn it on before I started all the testing, so I may have missed a situation where it might come up. My sense is, though, based on what happened and the way the publish notes read, that there won't be any kind of flagging for using the peacemaking skill on another player's pets. Would appreciate if someone else can check on this too, though, to confirm it for sure!
  • It seems that with this change, it is going to be impossible in Felucca to use the peacemaking skill on the pet of a blue character (i.e., one not in your guild/alliance) if that blue character is not flagged to your bard.
  • Because I don't have any red characters to experiment with, I was unable to confirm (1) whether or not it is possible on Test Center for a bard to use the peacemaking skill on the pet of a red character that is not in the same guild/alliance with the bard if the red character is not flagged to the bard, and (2) if (1) is possible, does it cause the bard to be flagged to the red character. Maybe someone who has some red characters on TC to experiment with could check this out?

  • I also could not test to see if there's anything unexpected for trying to use peacemaking skill on the pet of a red character that is not in the same guild/alliance with the bard and that has tried to attack the bard.

I wouldn't just replace them with the "NOT..." version.

First, someone might want to search for cursed, brittle etc. stuff, because it's cheaper or whatever other reason he might have.

you dont need to enter Brittle or Gargoyle or Elf as there are already check boxes for those.
what there is not is a button to eliminate those from your search results.

Lol... Yes Winter, you actually did say the same thing. And yes, having a way to eliminate certain properties would be very nice to have. There is no reason that the dev's can't "revisit" the code from time to time to tweak it.
I would love to know what they have in mind for Siege and Mugen regarding transport to/from the vendor.
Devs, please allow gates for this purpose.

So, in light of this bard nerf, I'm curious. When will there be the fix for tamers who log out during a battle to save a pet from dying? Because this change on its own just protects tamers in Fel to a degree that's embarrassing, and I totally disagree with it. It allows a tamer to PvP without the skill to resurrect their pet, yet with little penalty. They are protected both by being able to log out should their pets get low on health, and bards who used to counteract them are now flagging.

Please stop giving tamers protection like this, we do not need any special treatment. What's the point in balancing pets like the greater dragon for PvP if you then add in a change like this which powers tamers up again? Do we have to repeat the cycle of boosting tamers then nerfing them, when maintaining a reasonable level would surely be easier? Many of these tamers can't even stay in a fight until it ends, when that might risk their pets dying and losing skill points. Yet here we go protecting them and encouraging this silly behaviour even further... *sighs* This won't end anywhere good.

I wonder if any change has been made to the area peace effect on tamed pets or if only targeted peace is changed.

Well now agree you shouldn't be able to log your pet out in a pvp setting...but there are times a pet gets stuck and needs to be logged. I personally have never experienced it but apparently enough have to where they implemented it..I'm sure there could be a work around that if your pet is aggro to a person it cannot be logged.

ie: flagged by your own accord not attacked

Till then just kill the pet before the tamer

I realise pets become stuck, and I wish we had pets that were coded so they could cope with basic terrain issues without tamers having to mess about to fix that problem. There should never be a requirement to log out to play UO as a tamer. I think we need a fix to the pets being stuck issues rather than keeping our self-fix of logging out. Because it is really sucky to have to log out to solve problems that should be fixed at source. My shepherd can herd a pet off a rock to join her so why on earth can't she achieve the same with a command? It's really silly.

I agree with the flagging, I only want pets kept in game until the combat flag wears off for example, so the tamer can't just log out and keep a pet alive in the middle of a fight. So they gain more benefit by staying in game and fighting until the battle ends. Then I'd hope the devs looked at all the reasons where players log out to move pets and protect them, and look at improving taming so we can stay logged in.

Till then just kill the pet before the tamer
That's the problem, I've yet to fight a tamer who didn't bottle it and log out to keep the pet alive. Killing a pet in Fel can be surprisingly hard. Even with a discording tamer with pets and the element of surprise, the tamer I fight is always going to have enough time to chicken out and hit the X button. So it requires a fast co-ordinated gank on those pets if you are going to kill them before the tamer quits.

I still often have the problem where I tell my pet to kill something and he WON'T move.. just stands there... Oh he'll kill it but he'll wait for it to come to him and then he won't follow you until he's done killing even if you tell him to stop and follow he won't.......

Logging out closing the client and logging back in is the ONLY thing that fixes it.

Right so not being in combat with a player character logging should be fine..but in pvp it should not be ok..
