Stealables/Daily Rares

Hi folks, having just been remarking books for my rune library I found that 95% of the once daily rares do NOT seem to be working any more. Can anyone else confirm this or is it just my shard. By daily rares I mean:

Both facets:

# 2 closed barrels on (L1 & L2 Deceit) both facets. Just don't seem to spawn, the barrels there don't highlight, can't pick them up, can't steal them.

# Buc's Den rock (shows on cntrl shift) but you can't pick it up, steal it or even move it with your cursor.

# Lost Lands rock, east of terathan keep on road, doesn't seem to spawn at all. Only checked in trammel.

# Empty Basket - One in Nujelm - spawns but can't eat fruit, can't steal, can't pick up. (both facets) If you try to eat the fruit it says 'can't eat that it belongs to someone else'
# Empty Basket - Buc's Den smithshop - doesn't seem to spawn at all in either facet any more.
# Empty Basket - Hedgmaze x 2 (building L1 & L2 both facets) - these seem to be the only ones you can eat the fruit from and pick up the basket with, only thing is if you aren't hungry it won't let you eat the fruit.

# Fruit Basket - in farmhouse sth of Yew Prison, is there but you can't reach it from anywhere around the table, can't pick it up, can't eat the fruit. Same in both tram and fel.

# Tall Candles - used to be 3 on the table in covetous back room, both facets, none seem to be there any more.

# Plates of food in huts sth of Britain, don't work, can't eat off them to get dirty plates on either facet

Felucca Only

# Full Jars (Ocllo Fel) - doesn't seem to spawn at all. cnt-shift shows nothing behind the oven.
# Hay - outside Khaldun entrance - doesn't seem to spawn at all. Hay there, can't pick up, steal it or move it.

#tasty meat pie - doesn't seem to be spawning any more.

if you can still get these items on your shard please state and the procedure you used to get them. Maybe I am just doing something wrong. I do not believe it is due to me being 'too late' lol. No one wants most of this stuff and given I can get level 8 and up artis by stealing pretty much when I want I don't think these items are being camped. Only reason I want to know is there is no point marking rune books for stuff that doesn't work any more.

With the exception of some of the empty baskets, there is no procedure other than picking up the item.

Closed barrels still spawn.
Buc's rock still spawns on most shards (pretty much all non-asian shards; not spawning on any asian shard I've checked)
T2A rock still spawns.
All the empty basket locations you mention (there also are other locations besides those) still spawn, and are takable - one of the Nujelhm locations you have to make the basket drop first, same as always. Telekinesis does not seem to work anymore as an alternative method.
Full basket - the one you mention has never been takable; there are two on the table, and the takeable one still spawns/can be taken.
Tall candles - still spawn. Though, there was only ever 1 takeable candle spawning on the table per shard, not three.
Plates of food - not spawning.
Full jars - still spawn.
Hay & Broken chair - tbh, I have so many stored, I've not checked in a long time.
Tasty meat pie - still spawns
Bushel - does not spawn. (afaik, it stopped spawning at the time of the Magicina invasion)

I've confirmed each of these w/in the past month on many shards - Cats, Chessie, Atl, most asian shards, Europa, Drach, etc. Also, I'm pretty sure you're missing some of the daily spawns, though I can't think of which offhand other than some of the empty basket locations.

I have no idea why none of them seem to work on Oceania, other than what is posted above. Given that some of them are daily or even twice daily and none of them are there it seems odd. No idea where you get the full fruit basket from if the one in Yew is not stealable. It never spawns on Oceania, maybe you wanna log in and I will gate you around to show you. Gimme a msg if you want I will turn icq on

there are two baskets on the table in Yew. You can only pick up the one closest to the door (no stealing required). The baskets in Nujelm have to be dropped before you can eat the fruit and pick them up. I find blood moss works well to drop them.

There's another pair of baskets in Nujelm, on a picnic table down near the bank. Then there's another one in a house on the SW end of Yew. Tbh, noone seems to collect the baskets, so I normally can find them still there, as needed, so I've not been to check on the Yew empty basket in a long time. I've never seen either of these listed on stratics/Markee Dragon/etc though. I think there were 1 or 2 others as well, though I've long forgotten quite where.

Afraid other than the baskets in hedgemaze there are NO others that either spawn or let you pick em up any more, no closed barrels etc (as I listed up there on Oce), no rocks, seems nothing is working like it used to. Bucs' den spawns no basket at all ever on my shard. I really want some closed barrels for deco purposes but they just do NOT spawn on my shard. Be good if a dev or someone could look into it. It isn't major but its all the small things like this that keep getting borked up and it takes away a lot of the quirkiness of UO.

Edit: Tried every barrel I could find, no luck. Server up was a bit under 2 hours ago, but since noone ever seems to get the 2 dungeon ones, and those actually are well known, I kind of doubt these Vesper barrels have already been taken. Can you give more detail on where they are/which shard?

No I used to be able to steal all of the known items years ago, the only reason I am trying to work em out again is I have been updating the rune library and don't want crap marked that no longer works etc, so it has been a mammoth effort remarking ALL my books to include everything new up to Blackthorn's dungeon. I have taken my thief to all the spots marked in my daily rares book only to find that only the hedgemaze barrels actually work and the broken chair in ilsh, everything else either never spawns or if it does I am buggered if I know how to get it if it won't let you pick it up or steal it. PLus I wouldn't mind some more closed barrels as they are a nice container, especially for stable or garden deco.

Well I see them but you can't pick em up or steal them so not sure how you are supposed to get them.

Dont know of closed barrels, but barrels you can pickup if you use a pitcher with water on it and fill it - then emty it. And you can pick it up.

I think I better ask about these. I have been told how to get them, but I'm beginning to wonder if the method is classed as an exploit

Well if all else fails and you can't get the stealable ones, the craftable barrels for player-made alcohol are almost identical graphics.

How about someone fixes it? Just because we are a small shard, why should we always just get ignored? For years I have been asking for our stage in the skara community centre to be fixed, and the dart boards fixed, they were fine until the joint was used for an EM event in around 2007 when they blocked access and never put it back to how it was, so that people could use the stage and dartboards. Another EM event on our shard locked us out of the grand arena in malas, so now guilds can't get in to play bagball or do anything in it, have also been asking for this to be fixed time and time again, all to no avail. Now 80% of the stuff we are supposed to be able to pick up as daily rares, deco items etc just doesn't spawn or is unable to be picked up.

I would just like all this stuff fixed, and a commitment by EM's that if they change stuff on the shard to run an event they actually put the settings back to how they were before they started. It is just slackness and lack of attention to detail.

yes, the way to get them is very like getting baskets. They are on Oceania, in fact I have 4 closed barrels on that shard now.

Hehe, sorry, my reply wasn't to your post in particular, I appreciate any work arounds offered, and I know no one on stratics can actually fix anything for us, that is something the devs need to do.

It just always seems to be that some shards have problems and they get fixed really quickly, even get offered compensation, yet we on Oceania can report stuff broken on our shard that works on every other shard and yet it NEVER gets fixed, and we're not talking months but years or never. '

I assume you're checking these at server up? They tend to disappear quite quickly on Europa, anyone arriving even half an hour later could be deceived into believing they didn't exist

Yep and other times too. The buc's rocks are there, just can't pick em up, same as 80% of the baskets, they are there, highlight yellow, just can't eat em, can't steal em, can't pick em up. The rock in T2a just doesn't spawn, neither do the candles in covetous, or the full jars in Ocllo, neither do the closed barrels in deceit as far as I can tell. I have asked in chat and no one knows of anyone collecting em. Given I can pick up/steal even the high end stealables on a regular basis it would be extremely odd to not get this really really low end stuff that you can't even sell on a vendor these days. 4 days in a row I went to Ilsh and picked up the broken chair and that was hours and hours after server up, so it hardly looks like anyone is bothering. I know I checked around 2009 just before I left for a couple years and the stuff seemed to be borked then but thought it may of just been me missing them, I know ithey did work in 2006-2008 as I used to get the stuff regularly.

Most mornings when I try for them, there is someone else recalling to each of them too and we cross paths during our collecting. I'll be lucky to get half, and I'm sure this player is getting the other half. I just choose which order I want to get them in so I know which half I have a chance at getting.

Aye well never see a soul on my shard, think is only about 20-30 of us that play regularly on a good day. I expect the high sort after 'steals' have a few thieves, in fact I know they do, but the low end stuff can sit for 'days'. People don't even bother getting them for turn in points.

Thanks Petra; didn't occur to me the closed barrels wouldn't be sitting right on the bottom z on the dock. I'll go try to find the 4 for which that trick works when I get a chance. Looks like I won't have time to get to Oceania to test the others til next week, but I'll let you know what I see.

On Baja the daily rares still spawn... the closed barrels, full Jars, hay, etc... I get up in the morning and log in every once in a while to grab them. However, since we are on the subject.... I can't seem to get the old tarot cards that spawned in East Moonglow house near the giant telescope. Do the tarot cards still spawn there, or are they only in Doom now? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

I've not seen those tarot cards spawning since... well, at least since the 6th anny cakes, maybe earlier than that, but my memory's failing me. Same for all the others that tend to be in the same runebooks as those tarot cards, btw - the folded cloth, etc.

While we're on the subject, it's been years since I've heard of a mage camp spawn - never actually saw one myself. Anyone seen one recently, or have those completely stopped (in T2A or near Wrong, think those were the 2 locations)?
