wrestling question

i use to run with wrestling on my mages years ago.
then i stopped when they stopped having perks from it.

a person would think if you had GM wrestling you wouldn't get interrupted when casting without running protection, but thats just me.

anyways, i noticed today that i have 120 wrestling still on one of my mages.
i was going to stone it off but then thought maybe id leave it on.
but i have no idea what else i need to run on him for wrestling to be effective.

do i need to have tactics?
anatomy?
do i need 60, 90 or 120 dex.... is there a SSI involved with wrestling?
i seem to recall once upon a time you needed to have anat on a wrestle mage to use specials?

or is this skill just dead?

Wrestling works like every other combat skill out there in terms of hitting your opponent or being missed yourself. The only thing to keep in mind is that the base swing speed of wrestling is 2.5 seconds. It says 2.0 seconds on stratics but that isn't correct. The special moves don't require any other skills to perform. If your also asking about Eva + Anatomy = dodge chance that's a little different.

That never, ever made any sense to me. Why or how is it slower to swing a fist than to swing a weapon, or heavy mace. Any GM in any martial arts is faster empty handed, or even a foot, than with a weapon.

1) YES... to actually hit people using the Wrstling skill will benefit from the use of Hit Chance Increase. My RED mage PEON is curretnly a Wrestling Scribe mage with 45% HCI and 5% SSI simply for the stuns vs Mages.. and the disarm spam vs dexxers.. Template is old as dirt but still functions well.

2) "Dodge" This term is referring to the fact that the combination of ANATOMY + EVALUATE INTELLIGENCE gives you the Defensive side of any combat skill (aka the ability to be missed by something attacking you)

The exact formulaie is

(Eval + Anat + 20 ) / 2 = Defensive Skill. Example... 120 Eval + 100 Anatomy + 20 = 240 points / 2 = 120 Combat skill in terms of DEFENSE.. and when I saw DEFENSE I simply mean that with these 2 skill you won't actually be able to do WRESTLING specials or even hit people... I do belive you might technically retain the minimum 2% chance that everyone has to hit somethign using DODGE but that's about it.

It's basically a quick way to save 20 skill points on a template that you might consider putting WRESTLING onto. If you don't actually feel like you would use the wrestling special moves.. than save 20 skill points.. and replace 120 wrestling with 100 anatomy and typically any Mage template that has 120 eval... will gain 120 DODGE with this switch...

I miss the days of running a disarm thief...so many shines would end up in pack. *shakes fist at insurance and personal bless deeds*

Seemed odd when they eliminated the need for Arms Lore to disarm...la

120 magic
120 eval
120 med
120 M/R
120 Wrestle
100 anat

cant fit scribe into that?
If you have 120 wrestle, you don't need 100 anat.

120 eval + 100 anat is for when you don't want to have wrestling in your template. You won't be able to hit other people or use wrestling specials, but they will miss you as often as they would if you had 120 wrestling.

120 Mage
120 Eval
120 Resist
120 Wrestling
120 Meditation
100 Scribe
20 Focus (Just for Extra Mana Rgen .... but still allows me to remain a "focuseded" Mage with 30 SDI in items.. and 10 more SDI from Scribe for a total of 40% SDI.

ok, thats the template i already have.... guess i just need to start actually using it.

shame that a 120 mage has to run protection.
youd think if you where a legendary wrestler that you would be able to mitigate someone hitting you.

You don't have to run protection .... it just depends on a bunch of factors, but your rarely every going to just get to push a button and EASY mode know your going to ge that cast off.... UO is pretty much that ultimate blend requiring the skills / speed of a First person shooter..... yet also having the MMORPG aspect of a persistent world that allows you to Unbalance the Scales and simply have BETTER stuff in every way than your opponent etc... hehe love it!

I run 120 wrestle on my myst mage. You need 45 dci for it to be effective. I can cast in many situoations without interruptions, where i normally would be interrupted.

PvM wise I think wrestling is a complete waste of time right now. With 120 wrestling and 45 DCI you regularly get hit by lesser spawn, and anything you'd want to use disarm on in PvM can't be disarmed. Since you can make a -15 mage weapon relatively easy now, wrestling just isn't worth it. Slap one +15 magery mod on a jewel and have practically all the functionality of a free 120 skill points.

PvP wise, wrestling can still be rather useful. It's harder to be a roach mage due to the old parry nerf (the only reason you would want more than 10, 11 dex) and the more recent DCI nerf, but if you can max HCI you can definitely have a little fun. That being said, stone form mystic mages w/ protection casted can have quite a bit of fun as well. It's situational, of course. A lot of people just make use of mage weapons regardless, using those free skill points.
