Gaining Tactics

What am I doing wrong? I have a 120 macer char, 115 anatomy, but only 40.2 tactics. No matter what I try hitting, tactics will not budge. Yes I know it's a slower skill to gain, yes I have tactics turned up and yes I have skill points available. Any ideas what I can try to get it to start gaining? Thanks

Not sure what you are hitting, but from what I recall, you should be fighting low level creatures to get gains in tactics...it should actually be very easy to gain at that level...la

I have tried, gamans, grizzly bears, trogs, earthe eles, shadow eles and bouras. Nothing.

I went all the way in tactics down in the cavern of the discarded. Grab a Whirlwind-Weapon with Life-Leech and work the Vitavi- and Tikkitavi-Spawns. They take ALOT of damage and dont deal much. The spawn rate is great and you get nice loot (Imbuing regs) as well as occasional artifacts such as Basilisk Hide Breastplate.

For me THE place to be!!!

Stone your weapon and anat skills. If you have the points desired for tactics then should be no issue returning those skills. Think of gaining as being gasoline. Your not going to get the same output from gasoline in a moped vs a Ninja R. Tone down your HCI also.

From 40 to 70 I've had a lot of luck fighting Skeletons. The passage between level 2 and 3 of Covetous has a lot of them so there is always a supply available.

In addition to Warpig's suggestion - I'd also go with a fairly plain weapon and avoid high DI, Slayer, etc.

To gain in any fighting skill, your target must be within +/-25 skill point (+/-20 is better) of your apparent skill. I say apparent because discord works in this case for yourself or the target. If your target is outside of that range, you won't gain except for GGS.

This rule also works for pet skill gains.

Go to Tokuno into the Sands and kill Orcs....... your Tactics will raise quickly infact you could go into the orc caves and kill orcs. Raising tactics is like taming you have to kill stuff at about the same level as your skill. You're probably trying stuff way too high to gain your tactics.

Can't, working up a char on a shard I hardly have anything on.. this is probably not an option.

At 70 skill (or just a little before), I'd move to Lizardmen, then at 80 move to Ratmen or Orcs. At 85, move to Harpys until about 90. For 90 to 100, hit up more Harpys, Ogre Lords, or Earth Elementals.

Down at the bottom of the search fields is the Tactics field. Use your current skill to get a list of monsters in your range to fight. As I said before, you gain best fighting monsters with +/-20 skill points of your Tactics skill.

This is a general listing of monsters with an average skill of 40 Tactics.

Maybe set yourself up to do the quest where you kill solen infiltrators and turn in the zoogi they drop for powder? The infiltrators might be just about right for getting tactics gains if you're currently in the 60s, as their tactics level is listed at 80 in the Hunter's Guide.

I went from 68 to 75 doing harpies and I'm still gaining pretty decent off them.

Go to Yew crypt, holding a wand that does little damage - kill skeletons till u 75-80, then hit shame and hit earth elements.

If you try Lizardmen next, I'd check out the Tokuno Champ Spawn. Best bet.

Go to Ilsh and fight earth elems at 95 and can go to 120. Especially if you get paragons.
