When I try to use this token it doesn't work but instead says "you may try this again later ..."

Are you on any quests, check your context menu to be sure you aren't on any old style quests like the Solen ones. I seem to remember they could block using the race change.
Quest journal is empty so unless I forgot something from VERY long ago that doesn't seem to be it. Good idea though.
I think you have to be in a safe log out spot also, been a long time. Are you naked?
Tried from house and Inn, and naked. Will have to try a GM when I have the time to wait.
you checked both quest logs? The old style accessed through char context menu and the newer one through the paper doll?
The solution for me ended up using the token in the 2d client. Worked right away. Thanks all for help with this.
I wish there were a quest to change to and from gargoyle, the way there are quests to change between elf and human.
Gargoyle characters can complete the existing quests to become either human or elf. However, I think the only way you can go from human or elf to gargoyle is by using a race change token.
