Please no more fees... I pay a rl fee to play the game. That's enough.That would be awesome.
And the secured trader idea with 1% fee is terrific. It will be a rather nice gold sink.

Please forgive my ignorance here, but why would a fee be needed? I mean, I wouldn't have a problem with a 1% fee - but would like to have an explanation as to why one is needed at all.
I think that once every vendor everywhere has their wares available for all to see, that the economy will recover to a balance we haven't seen since Luna came into being. So why a fee?

that's great, every time I'm on TC1 I'm thinking, "man, there is less to buy here than on Origin shard :/." now maybe I can sort through all the junk the people who live TC1 sell

If a 1% fee is added, people will just continue to use FREE brokers. The fee is just a waste of time to code and will just further alienate players.

Yeah, right. If they remove checks, a free broker will accept i.e. 40 mil in 60k gold stacks... is that, what you mean?
If they think that removing checks and replace it with a system that eats a percentage of the gold spent won't result in massive player backlash they are delusional.
Its about 16 years too late to change the way people spend gold.
Just reduce gold to a number attached to the account and allow players to trade it without a "physical object." Duping problem solved without pissing everyone off.

If 1% is added to all player-to-player gold transactions in lieu of checks, the amount will add up.
If someone saves up to buy an overpriced item, why burden them with a completely pointless fee just because the devs have no better ideas to leech gold out of an imaginary economy?
UO doesn't need a sales tax on pixels.

1% isn't a lot to charge regardless of whether or not someone is rich.
100gp = 1gp
1,000 = 10gp
10,000= 100gp
and so on...
Heck, 1,000,000 with a 1% fee taking 10,000 still isn't a lot.
Of course, the whole secure trader system may even be optional. So people who seem to think that 1% is too much may get to opt out.

This is how I would implement it:
In the bank box everyone has a check book or some kind of money box. Players can drop gold coins or checks onto this to increase the balance.
The balance is just a number. The same as what shows with a vendor currently.
When trading with other players the buyer just can just simply use a slider to adjust the amount to be paid, or type the amount. Like when you withdraw gold from a vendor at the moment. Same for when trading property or anything for that matter.
This way people can still keep gold and checks if they want (maybe role players use them?) and also at the same time it makes trading high value items alot safer.
Maybe the fee could only be on items over 175m gold (the max price of an item on a vendor) then people paying under this amount can just continue like the system is currently and maybe avoid the fee.

Here are a couple of quotes from people on the dev team regarding the possibility of converting gold to just a number:

If you scroll part way down the page (time stamp in the transcript is about 7:20), you'll see a screen shot of one of the slides from the presentation that says "Dev Wish List," followed by another screenshot of the next slide with these bulleted items on it: Chaos/Order System; Currency Conversion; Vendor Search; Enhanced UI Improvements for the EC client; and Revising UO Armor to make all types useable.
At 7:36 in the video/transcript, Mesanna actually said about the "currency conversion" item: "We also want to talk about doing a currency conversion and getting checks out of the system, because the easiest thing in this game to dupe is checks."
Phoenix made this statement in a post started in April after word leaked out that he would be leaving the UO dev team: "The accounting back-end for the Fortune's Fire casino was designed to be expandable, so that it could form the basis for the virtual currency conversion." [

Now this change would be awesome. Finally the poor dupers can play the game instead of having to dupe all day. Instead of duping 1 mil 500 times, they can now dupe 500 mil at once... wow, what a time saver. I'm sure everyone will thank you for that.Make it so we can write checks in any amount. Instead of saying "check 1000000" to the bank, we just say it to our check books
I don't think they would dupe 1m x 500 checks, they would just dupe high value items that can be sold for a lot of gold. Europa gold cloth. 5.0 SOTS and more recently Sphinx statues to name just a few examples.

gold duping didnt work like this. most the duped gold came from duped bank boxes so i hear, not single checks. can you dupe a checkbook? i dont know. if its in the actual bankbox, possibly.
New changes to uo really scare me. the track record for bugs in new content and major changes is well, bad. if this is a new system Please Please Please put 50 times more time and effort into it than some deco mini pack.
I'm fine with a 1% fee. Those who want to continue to use free brokers, can continue to do so. This would give an option to those who don't wish to trust a third party in a transaction. In the future, I'd like to see this used not only with items, but homes as well.
I know folks like their check/gold pile graphics, but I still think they should switch our currency over to a numerical system instead of having physical objects. Perhaps the gold/checks can remain in the game, but are used for something other than trade currency... much like silver coins.
