The New 5th vet reward Lighthouse

Not sure if this is a bug but I place my lighthouse in my keep. And then I had a few ships out on this account one of them I did not refresh to see if this lighthouse would save my ship. Well it did not work. I tried to recall to the ship and it informed me it is in dry dock. So I check my keep storage to see if it was where the lighthouse said it would be. The moving crate said 0 as in items in it so it was not there. So what is wrong with this Lighthouse. Or does it work with keeps and castles at all.

Did you double click the lighthouse when you had placed it to make the connection?

because i have a lighthouse up and when i placed a boat with that account i got a blurb
"a key has been put in your backpack"
"a key has been put in your bank box"
"your boat is now linked to your lighthouse"

which makes me think that i wouldn't need to manually link it..

First the pig, then the lighthouse and now the candles. All the new animations move at Ludicrous Speed.

as a kickback rememberance I had downloaded a pacman game made for a cpu clock speed of perhaps 16Mhz and the computer I had was I think 100Mhz (this back in the 90s). anyhow the game ran so fast on my 100Mhz it was unplayable.

My ships were already in the water when I placed the lighthouse, but I did click on it and got the message that my ships were linked. Confidence, however, is not high... I've been refreshing my ships as usual nearly every day, just in case.

I agree they move too fast lol. The lighthouse has to be slowed down a bit to act like a real lighthouse.

I don't even see the point in these lighthouses except for Britannia ships. If this saves your ship, shouldn't it save what is in your hold in your ship, perhaps put it in your moving crate. I don't care about the danged ship, I can buy another one but the fishing quests and fish or all the cannon supplies in the hold.........those things I DO care about. Know how long it takes to re-establish your fishing reputation once your fishing quests get tossed? Trust me it's not fun building it all over again.

Why does the lighthouse have to be so dam big. I have a smaller house, not a keep, and I haven't got one because I have no where to place it. Does it work if it is not locked down?

Parnoc nailed it. Great item for saving those brit ship. What really counts is in the hold. We just needed some goldsink that keeps a ship from aging for a month. If your vacations or job takes you away for more then a month, get it out of the water.

Now I found out you do need to manually link it from your boat menu . "Link" is on the bottom of the menu on your boat you click that you link your boat to the lighthouse. Would have never thought of that with out you mentioning it Thanks I now Know and have all the ships that are on my account with that lighthouse linked. Well it sucks that I lost a ship just to find that kernel of information

I figured it out - it's not per-account - you have to run every character on the account with the lighthouse over to the lighthouse and double click it in order for the linking to work properly

I thought if I just double clicked it with the top character on the login list, then the whole account would automatically be linked but that's not the case - it's character specific

and a good way to check is to look at the bottom of the boat menu for the word "unlink" - that means it's linked

turns out the lighthouse is far more complicated than I thought it was - I thought you just had to plop it down in your house and you were good to go - I think the instructions on how to use this thing could have been a little better spelled out for the masses (me included this time )

and if the boat's already in the water when you double click the lighthouse you have to manually go into its menu and affirmatively pick "link"

In any case the lighthouse should (I think) be treated as an insurance for unexpected absences from game, not as a substitute for refreshing your ship.

For someone that payed RL cash for a brit ship it works spot on. Besides cash we value our time also. Our time ends up in the cargo. From the reading the lighthouse saves the boat and anything that is secured to the dec. The cargo hold is a complete loss. For the quest boxes. To bad they just don't show up again when a boat is placed in the water again. Even empty if it makes it easier. There is the advantage of getting the lower baits as a reward again and the lava hooks. Being higher up the reward chain makes the very useful lava hooks no longer a reward. I really don't want a 9th 120 PS. I want to be able to fish up rare ore color pavers and not have to lower my reward status.

i got mine to save the brit boats that i purchased from the store.
so for me they are win / win.

just too bad there was no way to have some sort of lighthouse on shards we dont have houses on.
or...... they could just let us have houses on ever shard

I am 120 real skill and I would suppose the highest that can be reached on fishing quests having done more than 2500 of them without throwing out any and I still get lava hooks, mostly when I don't want them, on a high point order for instance. I just looked and I have the same amount of lava proof and dredging hooks with about twice that amount of junk proof hooks.

I've had three boats stolen by sea sprites. You see the difference in rewards as you work yourself back up. The code mages chained the sprites up, so no ships ending up in the pile of dryer missing socks in a long time. They changed the turn in point value of the junk from dredging and lava fishing. Why I noticed the lack of the old annoying rewards. Also doesn't help the RNG hates me. Like the fishing suit. I see no difference or usefullness from the junk proof hooks. The footwear never bothered me when you have a BOD book in your backpack.

I got nailed with 4 freds request. And then 4 the next 5 quest request has freds. With how little I play now. Don't feel like spending a month just trapping. Even all the old scripter vendor houses no longer stock. Yes I support my local scripters when it comes to crabs, lobster and dull copper ingots. Grinding to reach a goal. That carrot looses it's tastiness if you know your going to get smacked with the stick.

I reread Kojak's post after placing my lighthouse with the house owner and thinking all ships on that account were linked. Wrong. Went and looked at my main fisherman's ship and no link or unlink even listed on his ship's menu. Went back and double clicked the lighthouse with fisherman, went to ship and THEN the word "link" was last line in ship context menu. Clicked it and said it linked and changed the last line to unlink. So Kojak is correct, what a process, even after he said I didn't understand until I did it. Good Lord, what a rassle hassle! Believe I'll be taking mine down, I refresh all my ships and our guilds ships twice a week and knock on wood, we've not lost any so definitely not worth having an eyesore on the roof for what tiny benefit it gives.

Many thanks to Kojak for providing the details. Prior to his posts, I would have been up the creek without the proverbial paddle if my Brit ship had decayed. I also agree with Petra -- the lighthouse is basically insurance. I still refresh my ships regularly.

I love the lighthouse! I'd probably still use it even if it didn't work with the ships.

now you know how the lighthouse works and how useful it is and you want to take it down? (my mind is boggled - it's almost like you're mad at your finger so you smashed it with a hammer - that fixed that mean finger good, didn't it? [/analogy over] hehe)

you might have missed one of the finer points though - once you double click the lighthouse with all your characters, you don't have to fiddle around anymore with the ship's menus because they're automatically linked when you put them in the water from your backpack as long as you've clicked the lighthouse with the character - you only have to click on "link" if the boat was already in the water before you clicked the lighthouse - after you click it, things are alot more automatic and smoother
