I've already signed this, but read some back and forth about us being upset because of their worth. I used to use a few event item special effects for RP purposes. While I admit, I don't RP much these days... others still do. Although I am a rares collector and gold is a part of my life, to me their value is in being able to enjoy them. I know many collectors that care about the item beyond what they can sell it for.
A peach fairy which you could use to make a sparkle... costs on average 400-600k. Some of the items that have people so upset aren't worth billions or even hundreds of millions. They are easily obtainable to most people.

Your OP clearly used the term devalued in a monetary sense as you had already stated that the item had been ruined. Please spare me your new 'many meanings' nonsense.
The only pancake thread I see is the one you started when you decided to try and stir up some crap by asking other people to petition with you. You couldn't just state your case and leave everyone else out of it?

If you read my complaint carefully, I stated how I was upset because I loved how I could burst into flames with the item, and also have fun with it on my stealther.

I personally could careless about this specific issue..but why change it in the first place? Was there a bug that double clicking an item and making a fancy animation broke the game somehow? I don't agree with wasting dev time to change it back..but why did you waste the initial time changing it to begin with? Stupid..but probably accidental..we know how things work around here.. So...... /semi signed

* the code fix doesn't take a lot of man hours to fix back
* it isn't preventing some kind of dupe scam
* and probably a few other "common sense" assumptions i cant think of.

In many ways, I agree with Bobar. But as Captn Norrington pointed out, this isn't about the value, though the effect may affect that value. It's about things not working the way they were intended to. Take holiday fireflies; they're cheap to buy *from players*, but there's no way to obtain them through "normal" gameplay. If suddenly they started giving a 1m check each day but lost the animation, the gold would be nice, but the animation is why I have 30 or so in my house at the moment.

Items with these properties have existed and functioned this way for many many years, going back to seer items. I'm guessing this is an unintended side effect of some other change. Unfortunately par for the course when you are making structural changes to 15 year old spaghetti code. (Giving the devs the benefit of the doubt here in that they wouldn't waste time implementing this by design)

Let's put this into perspective. The "OP" bought her item okay so it cost her X amount of gold to buy a nice item she has it for Y amount of time. She grew attached to said item so does the X amount of gold spent still apply to said item? I don't know about a lot of you but for me and the OP the item(s) in question are priceless. No they don't work as they have for Y amount of time anymore; yes I am quite crushed about this and so are MANY other people. I also feel as though my items have been devalued, and as it has been said Many MANY times this is NOT about gold/cash/candy value people.

Well, I think it's quite obvious that this change was unintended.
But in all honesty, I never did think these items should be usable in your pack to have special effects go off on/around your character, looks cool, but shouldn't happen.
Good luck with it being fixed though, at least they're still usable locked down.

I feel pretty safe saying that Nubby had no clue just how valuable his daemonic crisis was until I told him. He just knew he hadn't ever seen another one. Nubby has, however, been using that flame effect greeting and departure for a very long time. Goldberg-Chessie, it may be Decadence bringing it up, and you may believe that she cares only because of the effect on market price. But ignore her personal motivations, whatever they may be. What about all those who just like their item, regardless of how much gold it's worth (if they even know), from the pink fairy up to the daemonic crisis? Don't they deserve to have an item still work the same way day to day?
Or perhaps, if the next patch means I have to tithe, then salute, just to mount an ethy horse, that's ok, as UO and UO items are always in a state of flux.

Anyone that has played UO for a long time should fully understand that things change quite often. Some for good reason, some for apparently no reason.
I have had amazingly valuable pvp weapons go from being worth 200 million gold to nothing in the blink of a patch.
Rares especially should not be exempt from these fluctuations as they are generally not even useable and are market items.
Markets change. Markets can and should be volatile as they are a potential source of gigantic income.
And in the case of the crisis statue I think that you should consider yourself lucky as I doubt it has drastically changed its value. It is still rare and still just as hard to obtain so it will always have a lot of value"

I agreed with the OP and I acknowledged that it sucks.
Everything I went on to say after that is also still spot on in my opinion. Every facet of the game has had huge fluctuations and changes and rares should be no exception. As another poster stated, maybe the dolls were never meant to be used from the backpack in the first place? Who knows?
I am sorry but I have issue with anyone coming to this forum seemingly trying to stir crap up by asking others to petition.
That is how I viewed the OP. If I was wrong thinking that she was trying to do this I apologize because I most certainly have never had any issue at all with her. And I most certainly did thank her very profusely when she did that amazing good deed for Bella.

You stated that first post, then continued on posting stating what "I said" completely cutting out everything else I said about being upset about losing the abilility to play with said object, and instead zoning in on one statent only, and then stating that is all I cared about.
Secondly, with bella, I was pointing out the hypocracy and insensitivity of what happens when someone else is upset because they lost something, even if it was one who expressed compassion when it effected you.

What is particularly annoying about them doing this to the Hand of the Defiler, is that I traveled to 5 shards just to buy them for my Xmas stockings to friends, it is very hard to find an item that you can get 10-15 of without paying billions and that you know they don't have, but is intriguing enough to be enjoyed...

I own no rares whatsoever, so I could probably post as whiterabbit has taken to posting lately, i.e., "DILLIGAF." But I won't. What I'm going to do instead is make a suggestion: If this topic is all that important to you, you MIGHT actually stand a better chance of getting some kind of reaction out of the devs if you all, collectively, put a bit more effort into your request than just posting your name in this thread.
Instead of just hoping that your reputations as rares collectors carry some weight with the devs, you could instead post the following:

- Screenshot of the affected item(s), with the cursor highlighting the name of the item;
- A description of when/how the item came into existence;
- A guesstimate of how many copies of the item still exist;
- What the item used to do and all the situations in which it would perform said action;
- A description of what has changed with the item and when the change seemed to have occurred (just in case you're tempted to sneak in an item that has been wonky for a while).
Just a thought, folks.

I don't think anyone here is "hoping their reputations as rares collectors carry weight with devs" I think they are just posting to let the powers that be know that they are in agreement with the OP in the hopes that the item(s) get fixed. I'm pretty positive Mesanna knows what the item is and does as she made them.
All folks are doing is letting her know that more than one person feels that the item should at the very least work both in the pack and locked down.

I got the impression there was more than one item that people thought had stopped performing some action, Flutter.
