For archers, try to force them into a building.
You will be able to lock them against a wall or something, so even if he hops, it will be close, and the risk of them hopping into a bard, ending everyone's fun is much smaller. :p

I'd like to try to create one of these and I am pretty unfamiliar with reforging -- came out about the time I started drifting away from uo. Anyway, I just tried it; chose powerful and and submile (so that i could select of the vampire). Weapons came out brittle and cannot be repaired. Is this normal or did I do something wrong in the reforging process? On another note, how difficult is it to get the ingredients for the whetstone? Thanks for whatever insights you might provide Smoot.

Don't choose "Structural" or "Fundamental" (which add Brittle and Cannot Be Repaired), and you can still choose "Grand" and "Inspired," then "Vampiric of the Vampire" as the property class.

Thanks. I thought I had only checked two -- not structural or fundamental -- but I may have had it wrong. I'll try again as I gain sufficient info. I only did a couple to start out.

Archers are actually easier for mages, they a longer range.plus you can play with the axis and hit them without being hit.

I was able to make some with the 100 HML and some others with 100 HLL, also I found out this only works with the two handed weapons. The one handed weapons have a lower imbuing intensity (500) where as the
two handed ones are (600). So on the one handed ones the highest I could achieve was 75 HLL or 75 HML.

HML and HLL are scaled based on the base weapon speed of the weapon and the swing speed also on the weapon. You will have a higher max with 0 SSI on the weapon. This is why it is advantageous to have SSI come from items. It also saves a mod from the weapon which gives room for something else.

It is actually based on weapon speed (and then SSI if you added SSI which you wouldn't want to in this case) and not imbuing intensity. Here is what I do with my LeafBlades which are a not a two handed weapon. I run 20 SSI on my suit and none on the weapon:

Are you moving the entire time or do you have them pinned down with agro on something? I can't solo defeat any of the captains with my thrower if they are actively chasing me.
I don't use anything special - I just kite them all (shoot and run). The only exception I do for Macers because this forced teleport that breaks my agro is pretty annoying (fortunately they are slow enough so I have time to run around fencell).

Throwers is not as good as archers.
They have a damage penalty at large range. You need very good connection and perfect timing to keep 7 tiles distance while you are kiting.
They can't mount a barding swamp dragon for 20% damage reduction.
And finally they can't wear woodland armor :).

It seems you haven't tried to kill 'crazy archers' that chase you instead of run away. I have met such Archers after the last server shoutdown.

It could be the same scenario as when a player recalls out and returns: monsters have been known to track from several screens away with newfound speed. I've been chased by a couple of rapid grizzlies that were as fast as I was on mounted running speed.

I use Ring +5
Cape +5
Tinkered legs +10

Oh and on that sword the HSL was actually 44 not 42
Thing is with chivalry skill its best to have high Karma, gotta stop that grey screen from appearing to often :cool:

20 ssi is pretty easy to get nowadays. ive never personally went with tinker legs because you just sacrifice so many mods. especailly since the resists boosts to materials. a 10ssi jewel is a very good investment. you dont have to break the bank in most cases. 10ssi jewel, a 5, and the town bonus using despic quiver on the back is the way to go if you want to cram in the most mods. other wise there are lots of options.

That's true a lot more options now I have been toying with the options you have mention, just waiting for the 10 ssi jewel to become available that I would consider and not over a billion in gold. The tinkered legs I have been wearing since they first came out. A lot more options to choose from, just not enough playing time with RL work etc.

As long as it takes to kill one of these Captains, I have found that using throwing is less expensive than my archers (especially on a server with 2-5 ppl on at the same time these things are ridiculous). I don't get one shot killed as often like I do on other templates. Mystic/mage was working pretty good but can't cast hardly any summons other than elementals . Tamer/spellweaver would be okay if a person could get a good focus but yet again small servers are screwed for focus and if on a small server the Captains hit so hard that keeping pet healed is a pita if not impossible most of the time. I'm beginning to think it would just be easier to say screw it all but for some reason I can't seem to quit trying to kill them even if it is just a waste of time on the smaller shards.
I can see where its frustrating on the smaller shards, if you can use some tactics like have them on the other side of the fence then you can range attack without having to run all the time. I have seen players do this affectively. Just some of the captains are hard to solo if not impossible like the bards. Some take me 20 minutes or so to kill solo they just hit so hard and some heal themselves too. The one with the shiled took me 20 minutes to kill tonight. Just have to have good equipment and fast with hot keys. Also invis potions are helpful.

120 Throwing
120 Chivalry
120 Tactics
120 Anatomy
120 Healing
120 Resist

He was built originally for PvP, but I soul stoned off the ninjutsu for Chivalry. I probably should tweak him further for the invasions to add some Bushido for perfection. That would help a lot with damage output since the captains have no slayers.

You might try switching out resist for Bushido, just have a trapped box for when your paralyzed, the only thing you will have a problem with is mana vamp. But if you joust the mages then its less of a problem, I find healing is a must. I never used it much in my temp before untill this event, and its saved my arse many times. I ran out bandages last nite and did not realise it untill all of a sudden my health bar was not going up as fast. This was against a macer so I had to recall out and get more of them. I just saw your a range attacker so jousting is not a problem then, also try and get them on other side of fence.

I have wrote a small video (4.20) yesterday. I just went to invasion city, found a master and killed it. Then I showed all equipped items. But I have problems with converting the video without loosing quality (I used fraps to write the video). I hope I will manage to convert and upload this video today.

If you use stone armor and 50 HML weapon then replacing resisting with bushido would be enough.

71 * 3 = 213 damage per hit (with perfection)
50% HML leaches 21 mana per hit
for AI you need (30-5)*2 * 0.45 = 22.5 mana per hit

but if you use metal armor then you need 27.5 mana per hit
if you add any 60 fighting skills to jewels you will need (30-10)*2 * 0.55 = 22 mana per hit

I may just put 100 Necro on my typical wraith thrower and remove the 60 SS/40Necro on him now. It is a cleaner rebuild and the char already has 100 Bush and 100 Chiv. Decisions decisions...

You mention a 50 HML weapon. That will be tough with a soul glaive. I need 30 SSI on the weapon, but I will try reforging one with max HML.

It easy to reforge 50 HML on metal weapon. IIRC it takes 4-6 copper runics.

Good video. Thanks for posting it. You hit for a lot harder than I do with a soul glaive.

What struck me most about your video was that you were alone! No wonder I don't have a comparable drop rate. I'm swamped with so many other people on Atlantic. I just did two invasion runs and it was a madhouse in both Tram and Fel. I got 3 drops (2 of which were from lighthouses). There is no way to get alone with a captain (other than a bard and who wants to do that).

For the necro, how did you keep up your healing? He actually hurts me in vamp form and I leech no life. I have to bandage myself.

Also, I could not read your bow type and mods clearly. Would you mind posting them? Thanks!

I don't have any life leach. Necromancer converts life leach so that it damages you instead of healing. My armor has 97 fire res but I don't use vampire embrace for invasion.
I have 148 dex and I bandage myself (120 anatomy, 114.9 healing).
I also noticed that sometimes Necromancer curse me for -20 in all skills. There is no special icon for this curse.

I was alone because most of people did previous invasion. Just in a few minutes people came. I usually haven't opportunity to fight solo. I try to use the moment while all other damage the lighthouse, go to a far corner, etc. It also depends on time of the day. And on town.
Onetime while I was AFK people killed all masters in fel yew and went to the tram scara brae. When I came back I was alone and a lot of new masters respawned. I have killed 12 masters solo while they did invasion in Scara Brae. :) Well not really 12 because some artifacts I got for minions.

On Atlantics I suggest you to ask one of your friends so he/she calls you for the last stage. So you get 2 artifacts per hour spending 10 min per hour.
