Invasion Templates

I've been trying all sorts of templates in these invasions from necro-mages, to sampires, to throwers trying to find the most effective one. As I battle in the cities, however, I see there are a whole range of character types in use beyond what I've been trying. I would like to ask the greater community what templates you are using in the invasion which are successfully earning Minax Artifacts on a consistent basis? Please list your templates below and any special suit, weapon (or pet), or tactics that you are finding especially effective at defeating the captains.

Of all my templates that I have tried I think my ABC archer with a Yumi with 50 hit lightning seems to do the most DSP. Honor + EoO + CW with max SSI.

Yumi has better range than the Cyclone, which makes it a little easier than my thrower. Have not tried a wammy thrower though... he is on a different shard atm.

i know they die faster when someone brings a Rune Beetle and it starts to do the armor corruption and lethal poison, but trying to keep them alive sucks.

we went in the other night with 2 greaters and 3 mages healing and then another tamer came in with a beetle (didn't use his mare as it died too fast all the time).
then a guild mate would jump in with his sampire on top of that.
we where dropping them with no problems but it was taking a good 10 minutes per.

but then if another Capt would wonder up we where done in and had to retreat.

the archer Capt are another story, those buggers hop around so much its not even funny!

SDI spellweaving mage..... Run in with WOD and still someone's looting rights.

No I haven't done this template since all my mages are red.

I only have one character that I can use for the invasions, Littleblue. She is a Tamer/Mage with Skills as follows:
- Animal Lore 120
- Animal Taming 111.9
- Evaluating Intelligence 100
- Magery 113.9
- Meditation 100
- Veterinary 115

She uses her greater dragon, Ganja. Her suit is nothing fancy, just an LRC setup with 45/61/60/65/70 Resists. I have had alot of fun with the Invasions so far. As long as there are others fighting, I don't have any problems. As I have spent more time learning the different enemies, I have found that Vetting is possible in some situations. I have actually done pretty decent with drops - today I received 4 drops from one city, which has been my best so far.

I use my pure warrior Frarc.

120 Swords
120 Tactics
120 Parrying
120 Healing
120 Anatomy
120 Resist.

75 all resist plate/dragon armor. The warriors jewelry set. 400 Luck 1350 with Statue.

For the monsters I have a set of Slayer weapons, (I use the same to do the void pool) They designed like the Soulseeker artifact. The whirlwind on group of monsters are handy and the leeches.
For the Captains I made a Bronze Katana with 45% DI, 50% HLD , 50% SSI, 50% Hit lightning ,12% Mana leech.
Armor ignore I keep using.

I'm one of the few (Yesterday the only one) Melee fighters. But if one person keeps healing me, (Asso did a excelent job yesterday) there is not much a problem as long we do 1 Captain at a time.

Can you find me from yesterday? Not that hard to see.

As long you work together there is no template better or worse then the other.

Vampirform Archer on Swamp Dragon white Expetional Armor white Resie and Healing.
On Second account i often support him white an 6x legendary myst/sw/mage for faster kill.

Whiteout Swamp Dragon Armor the taken damage is to exorbitant from archer and wizard guys !!!

Do all solo white the only exeption for barding that im ignoring respective on 2 accounts.

Now working on my 200 points after getting human shoulder pads and still up at 19 points

Swamp Dragon is a must... 20% Damage Reduction = no brainer.
Feint... 50% Damage Reduction, hello?
Lol I mean, if you wana throw in a 4x120 peacing bard songs along with that there's an additional 30% damage reduction...

Feint + AI = OP
Use a Leafblade, dunno what else to say...

Fencing is for tanking, swords is for dps.


EDIT: BTW I have a luck suit, which when switched to with 100% perfection I have 3620 luck.

Oh, on top of all that, I got Evasion, Confidence and I can chug a GHeal pot every 10s if I needed to.

I really don't see a better tanking template in the game.



If we're talking the best template to get arties, there is none. They are all the same.

Kyronix stated in the patch notes thread the drop rate depends on "damage done, damage taken and damage healed".

If you're looking to straight farm this, I've found a mage tamer works best. Constant damage going out and healing other pets/people. Depending how hard you work, you can get 5 or more drops per city.

106 Chivalry (still training up to 120. This one takes long...)

I am using a shield, those new luck warrior jewellery and the following weapons:

100% Energy diamond mace
30 SSI

50 Hit fireball
30 HSL (Due to the captain high damage output, you will often find yourself with low stamina)

45 LMC (5 metal parts)

With all that, I have 190 stam, 35 mana (enough for my needs), and 40 SSI. I usually swing at 1.25 down to 150 stam with those two weapons. I added that 5 int, 3 HPI epaulette yesterday, since it is pretty cheap and adds to the weakest part of my template, int.

I can solo some of the captains with this (archer, assassin, mystic, macer when jousting) and pretty much all the other ones sans the bard if I have someone healing me.

I'd love to use a swamp dragon for added damage reduction, but with an average of 250 ms ping, I have found that being mounted is pretty bad when you need to run away since every 10 to 15 steps you take, you will be locked for a few seconds while the client tries to catch up with the server.
That often results in death.

Good info btw on which captains you can solo and which ones you recommend staying away from. I do think the devs went a bit overboard on the bard. There is not much one can do when their primary weapon skill goes from 120 to 82-ish and you have a -60 SSI debuff.

I've actually seen a couple that tank the captains. Granted every so often I have to rez them but I've seen it happen.

under 3 mins is pretty rare. its usually 3 - 4 mins, and like i said only the easy ones. im also not counting pulling spawn in that. just for the single captain. and of course bushido perfection is a must. keeping counter attack up also helps, even with 60 parry.

The other reason is momentum strike. I am finding it useful for the minions especially when I am attacking the lighthouse. On Atlantic, there is such a horde of players I have to get in to the light house quickly if I want a Minax Artie from it. So I dive in and use momentum strike when minions attack me. Of course I have to be smart about the spawn types. For some it is suicide to take that approach.

I don't have to sit there bashing on keys (special moves, chiv and bush spells for example) so the whole process is more "relaxing" from the start. I find my target, shout "all kill" then the GD goes flying into battle. I'll stand 10 paces back and start to tank the enemy with my 10x fireball macro. While doing this im always keeping a close eye on my dragons health. When this starts to drop down I'll run my greater heal macro to get it back to full strength. If the mage heals don't do the job I'll move in and heal my pet manually with bandages.

Another good thing about the tamer is once the GD has a target it will chase it around. I don't have to run around following it and miss out on attacking opportunities as I'm far away. The archer is a great example of what I mean.

That does sound like a nice play style. All I can do is nothing but concentrate while fighting the invasions... And my wife is reminding me that I cannot hold a conversation while battling.

He probably doesn't have room on his template. The tamers are really nice to play but it's almost a must to have high med and vet.

I'm starting to see unique temps built just for this. Last night I saw a spellweaving thrower.

Dunno really. I've never looked into SW before. I have got hiding and stealth on there so I could stone these off and try.

I also don't have any med which would be handy. When my mana gets low I just bandage heal while I wait for it to regen. I want to make a luck suit next but I've been doing ok without one so far.

i took my pvp tamer in (ya i know)
and he worked good.
put a greater on the cpt and then stood back and used my bow with EoO and con weapon and vetted the dragon as required.
he switched to my guy about half way through, im guessing since i was out damaging my dragon.
so i popped a invis pot and finished him off.

that worked well.
even better when a guild mate came up and started to heal with spells.

reforge with copper hammer powerful reforging for "of the vampire" until you get one with 100 mana leech. it might take alot, like 100 tries, or you might get lucky
then whetstone off the damage increase and imbue the rest.

After trying with a few templates, sammy using AI weapons, stealth mage with eval, full bard using songs etc, I have had most success so far with my Eval Mage/Weaver/Tamer too.

You get points for
1) Damage done (checked. GD does ok damage, but way less than warriors with AI. But I will add more damage via spells, and finally WoD)
2) Damage received (checked. Lotsa damage received)
3) Damage healed (checked. Lotsa damage healed)

Best of all, the damned bard captains won't discord you if only your pet is doing the damage (Edit: just got discorded while staying out of vet range, more testing required). Just WoD when the captain's HP is low enough. Most of the time, you don't need to give further commands to the GD once it starts attacking. So even if you don't use jewels to overcap your taming against Discordance, you'd still be fine.

Cons:
Using a GD means I have to walk.
I use SDI gear, so can't take too many hits.
Pet is vulnerable to certain tactics by other player bards, esp in Fel.



Have not tried mage/necro or mage/mysticsim yet. Has anyone had any success with them?

Well, I have to eat my words on this one and say I've done alright on this invasion, thanks to other players. I initially tried a pure mage and died so many times that I gave up for a while. I switched to my Imbue Garg thrower weaver and had some success (still quite a few deaths) and even got a few arties before switching to what I figured was an inferior template, my human discord archer. I've been pleasantly surprised that even losing 240 skill points to music/discord and with 0 resist and 25 luck I've managed to haul in 101 arties so far only playing during my lunch hour, an hour or so after helping the kids with homework every night, and a few hours on weekends. Ironwood bow + AI gets me in the running every captain and the 20 JOAT hiding + moongates + public house hiding helps me lead away danger (plus the odd invis pot or two now and then). Bagballs, house steps and fences sure help too! As long as there are people working the captains I have fun and I'm using resources I never did before (invis pots, petals, teleport scrolls, etc.)

I haven't had many bad experiences and good etiquette seems to be respected and reciprocated for the most part. Good to see!

Approximately 5% block chance and you get to 100% perfection faster per hit.

Using honor on yourself grants a 25% damage bonus, I'm assuming this bonus duration is based on your level of honor. I have never used this so I can't confirm. Other than that, no.

Corpse Skin proofed (110 Fire) in Vampirform /option reforge to 75 physical and 75 fire.
Arround 135 HP, 80 Mana at 51% LMC white suddet and 170 Staminia, 13 MR.
40 SSI 1,75s Weapon Speed (Composite Bow white HIt Mana and Staminia Lech) 100% DI and it takes 3-5 EO"s to get one champ down and Swamp Dragon is a must have to for most if i see the 0 DCI ^^

There are only 3 captains that take more than 10 minutes to kill solo with my archer.

Bard - I even don't try to kill it solo.
Swordsman, Macer - the last time I checked it took 12-15 min.
I haven't found the best tactics against Necromancer and Assassin yet but in any case it takes less than 10 min.
For other masters I usually spend 5 min or less. Although with help of some other players it may take 10 min . And there is a lot of people that come (when I get a master to 10-30%) and start casting WoD to steal my artifact.

I use a composite bow with 50 HML and 30 SSI.

P.S. I don't count time I spend to kill minions. It depends greatly on minions type.

If you use the mage spell protection, you can drop that FC 1 for another mod.
Last I checked, protection caps your faster casting at zero.

Having Protection active gives a FC cap of zero, regardless of total FC. This was done several years ago with Publish 25, as part of other caps that put an end to overpowered characters.

Unless something's been changed that I never heard of, that must be a bug with the gump. I tested it just now with a char that's unnecessarily 4/6, and there's a definite casting difference.

Ah, of course. I didn't look back at your previous post, so when you mentioned protection, I thought your char is a mage.

Chivalry capped at FC2 makes sense. I've never tried it and might have to look into it.

Are you moving the entire time or do you have them pinned down with agro on something? I can't solo defeat any of the captains with my thrower if they are actively chasing me.

I'd like to try to create one of these and I am pretty unfamiliar with reforging -- came out about the time I started drifting away from uo. Anyway, I just tried it; chose powerful and and submile (so that i could select of the vampire). Weapons came out brittle and cannot be repaired. Is this normal or did I do something wrong in the reforging process? On another note, how difficult is it to get the ingredients for the whetstone? Thanks for whatever insights you might provide Smoot.

I so wish the beetle/mare combo was still viable in newer content... Instead of just greater dragons everywhere
