How is that worse than a free gate? If as I suggested that you can't do anything besides interact with the vendor, it should have no affect on anything or anyone around you. Making you invulnerable was a suggestion to keep people from grief-ing by luring people into a vendor and then ganking them.

Just because teleporters and portals are broken doesn't mean more broken systems should be added.
It is worse because it keeps you completely safe while shopping. Nothing like that is in place at the moment. You can lure people as it is now by letting them know about your vendor in gen chat. If people don't want to get killed or get their stuff stolen there are plenty of shards catering to that exact mentality.

That said, I do not like the idea about getting a free gate either. But I would rather remove that all together than making people invulnerable. And as I said, people are already using teleporters to get to key locations. I can't think of anything new game breaking there.

I would suggest then that Siege not have the ability to gate using the vendor search.

Nobody should be invulnerable while they shop, that's just silly! If you recall to a shop by yourself, you're on your own. Just as you are when you walk there. It should be exactly the same if you go through a search gate. There's bound to be some warning that you're going to Fel, so it's up to the customer to exercise a bit of caution. If a price seems *too* cheap then that's a pretty big hint that it might be a trap. It won't take a week before players learn that one.

The map to vendor string suggests you'll be able to look at where the shop is on the map and go by yourself. So that would give you the extra security of knowing where the shop is before you gate to it. There's also a world string which suggest a filter by the facet etc. If you had trouble in that location before, then you can easily avoid it in future.

I don't see any need for more hand holding - search and a gate is more than enough.

It's not about hand holding, but adding a system to the game that can so easily be griefed is just silly, too. The griefing can easily happen in Trammel, not just Felucca.

Well in Fel, killing another player is not griefing ;)

Anyone can do a rune drop right now with a trap at their shop and lure players in to kill if they wanted to. Just mention something cool on the rune name and it's easy to pull players in, even in Fel. But I don't hear daily tales of horror when players were PKd or griefed at a shop. So vendor search doesn't change anything.

If you get the option to see the shop on a map it is actually safer, because you can choose how you approach. Or whether it's in the middle of a swamp and likely to have some spawn issues. You don't get that protection with a rune at the bank, yet players use them safely all the time.

If you can approach by foot, you just get a safe rune/book ready and when you're near the building you precast recall. If there's a sign of danger you target the rune and you are safely out of danger. Or you stealth in, or just empty your pack and wear blessed clothing when you shop.

Given the above, I really don't see any justification for making a player invulnerable while they shop via the vendor search. You are already safer if you don't need to walk to remote vendors in Fel or through swamps in Tram. You don't need more than that.

Aside from the free gate, will there be a way to locate the vendor if folks would prefer to walk there?

Perhaps it can drop a map in your bag with the coordinates and approx location on a map?

That solves the murdering those using the free recall... there is a choice for folks.

So is there any more info on this yet?

In the OP Spoiler, the last entry is: "Map to Vendor" ;)

Sure sounds like they're giving us 2 options... And kudo's to them for that...

I can't wait for this to go into effect.... Sosaria will be a new place again... People will get out and visit places they haven't been, you'll be able to find SO much more to buy at reasonable prices, people might actually meet someone who's vendor they like... This is really going to be a huge positive for UO...

Although LONG overdue, I congratulate the dev team for finally following thru on this!
