Ideas to encourage City Donations

I've been Governor of Vesper on LS since the beginning and it's getting a bit old paying 2mil out of my pocket every single week...

Yea, I don't HAVE to do it, but it would be great if we could find a way to encourage citizens to donate. I'm pretty sure titles alone won't do it.

Do I have any ideas? No, not really =( I'm just hoping someone out there gets where I'm coming from and can come up with something.

possibly an additional bonus to the trade deal if enough is donated per week? 1 of each stat or something? or possibly to utilize trade deals you must pay dues? I have 2 chars that use your 5ssi buff, id pay 100-500k per week for that. Dunno.... maybe the governor just needs more power to encourage donations.

A few governors on Sonoma tried a Luna vendor, deliberately overpricing some items in order to get donations. Eventually they closed down the vendors, but it's also a quiet shard.

Paying dues would be the way to go. There's too much of a free rider problem. Perhaps a minimum of 100K a week to use, and anyone could donate extra to reach 2 million.

It would be nice if governors could choose more than one trade deal at a time too.

But yeah, the people who demand a buff but aren't willing to donate is getting old. 8mil a month or 24 mil a term is asking a lot of one person.

NOT having a trade deal available was enough reason for me to contribute 2 mill recently..... I was looking for the 5% ssi buff bc until i replace a 5% ssi with a 10% I will need the buff.....

Britain on Atlantic has enough in the treasury for the next 10 and a half years.

Hasn't the trade deal been reduced to 1 million a week? I could be wrong
Anyway there is several methods one can raise money. A raffle or lottery, 50/50 type thing, paid events, community hunts that all gold goes into the town. Since the 5% is gone, every little bit adds up. It takes work and time but it is doable.

Utilizing a trade deal should cost the character in question 50k (or less or more, just putting a number out there), which should go to the city treasury straight away. That way a governor runs a trade deal that is accepted and used by its citizen and gets some gold back for it.
So if you have 8 citizen using the deal daily, the 2mil would be back in the funds.

So far I have recieved money and item donations to reestablish the trade deal. The items are sold on my vendor and I pack the gold into the city treasury right away. I still have to fund some of the deal myself, but my citizen get more and more involved.

That is exactly the way it should go. In fact just let the governor select the deal and pay nothing but the 100k if he wishes to activate the deal for his character. Then each citizen has the option to activate the deal selected by the governor if they choose at the price of ....

I'd go something like 100k per week per character. This would negate having to reactivate the deal daily and force only those who are going to use the buff to pay for it. It would also eliminate the free riders. I was governor of Skara Brae on LS during the first term and due to low population on the shard or a general lack of interest in the system donations were so few and far between it was pointless. I choose not to run for governor this term due to reduced playing time during the term. So far I have seen no trade deal in Skara from the new Governor and a nearly empty treasury.

I very much like the idea/concept behind the system but it needs some considerable tweaking. Not just in donations and cost but also with the trade deals themselves. Too many of them are useless and none are geared toward crafters/resource gathering.

100K per week per citizen that utilizes it sounds fair. Not overly burdensome on an active player and it would take off some of a governor's perceived financial burden.

I don't think the way it is now is working. But as it stands the governor has to pay the money or DO SOMETHING to try and raise funds. I like the doing something aspect of governership; but it's a pretty steep amount if they can't raise money from anyone other than themselves.
I couldn't afford a full term.

Those vendors were put up because of the unfair taxes on the city funds, once the tax had been discontinued, the vendors were taken down. The stuff was "overpriced" just so people could donate and ALL their donation would go to the maintaining of the trade deal buff.

Yes, I know the prices were deliberately high so people could donate 50K or whatever, and the governor would put in the gold all at once to avoid the daily taxation. I suppose the governors are just relying on people putting the gold directly into the treasuries?

I think charging players to use the trade deal would be the best answer to this.

One, it helps replenish the coffers.

Two, it tells the Governor whether or not anyone is even using the current trade deal.

I don't understand why there isn't any taxes on cities to help raise funds. I mean that's a CORE THING for cities... the Governors should have the ability to set their tax rates by percentages from 0% (no taxes) to 10%. Why not allow the governors to impose the taxes and have a bit more control over it.

My senior officer, Bianca, is Gov of Minoc on Catskills and she refuses to let me pay for the trade deals (even though I could) because she believes it should be raised up. But $2mil is a STIFF price for a week!!! That should be in effect for a MONTH even for the duration of the TERM, not a week. If a Governor wants to SWITCH the trade deal, then they have to repay the price. But DEF agree that this is an issue.

Some shards are not as populated as others, thus it will be impossible to raise $2mil EVERY week. :( The weekly thing is what's killing me. I can't even... dude that's $24 million a TERM. Insanity!

As governor of europa magincia I have asked for help, I have asked for wants of trade deals. I don't get any responses. I don't mind paying the fee, but if here was some way to see how many are using it it would make me feel better about dropping the gold.

If I can get a transfer from Atlantic to Cats, I'll give you 24mil to cover the buff for 3 months.

I like this idea, especially if the governor decides to change the buff they would have to pay the 2mil again

I also like the idea of citizens being forced to contribute when they decide to utilize the buff. 24k for 24hrs? Granted, on less populated shards that would not help much...

24K = 84 uses of a trade deal needed per week. Doable on Atlantic, unlikely anywhere else.
100K = 20 uses, or 20 users if it covers the whole week.

I'd love to hear how governors are successfully raising money through events, and no a few high-gold amount contributors is not "successfully."

So now all we need is statistics on how many citizens, of which cities, on what shard are utilizing their trade buff and we can get an good estimate on what the donation should be... maybe even make it so it's a percentage depending on how many people are donating, with a maximum limit, of course. So if say 10 people utilized the buff and the maximum limit was 100k, then the governor would be responsible for 1m? shrug i dunno lol

A guild mate of mine (thanks) did pay for an entire week. Lottery mayhaps? :)

Something along this line of thought, how about allowing more than one buff per character to be active at a time, but you have to pay at a scaling rate for each buff. If you don't pay the upkeep, the buff wears off.

For example:
1 Buff = 100K per week
2 Buffs = 500K per week
3 Buffs = 1 million per week.

I like this idea; that'd be a nice gold sink and eliminate the folks taking a free ride on the city buff.

I will have to give this a try. My real life good fortune is killing my game time though...

Have devs open up housing or vendor plots inside town. Rent goes directly into the treasury.

My Miner's Competition for Minoc went really well... and most of our folks donated their earnings. :)

I will soon be having a Fund Raising Dinner, selling the "invites" for some gold for the city. Like the political fund raisers of today that charge like $2000 a plate! Tehehehe.

I think we as Governors, if we cannot have taxes, should then be allowed to add vendors in town to sell things for the city. Like one vendor by the stone would be awesome!
