[Discussion] How Many Rare Collectors Are Out There?

From time to time I like to make a post to see how many of us are out there and to invite new collectors. To me, after making such list always puts a smile on my face and renew my faith in this profession If I forget to list your name please forgive me. But to prevent from listing every Jane and John out there I want to go by a rule I created long ago of owning at least 25 combination of the sever births, Seer items, EM event items (vending machine items or massively produced EM items >75 count range, if below the value of 25 mil is 5:1 substitution), rubble pieces that are >100 mil range and rare holiday gift items value over 25 mil range will count as 1. Again, this is just my discussion thread and something for me to look at so lets keep it civil. For those I put a "?" behind please confirm in this thread or PM me to confirm if you meet the above qualifications. Items that are worth more than 25 mil but not really rare in quantity i.e. rubble palm tree or holiday gift boxes don't really count. However, Europa gold or the black speckled holiday gift boxes or two tone angel boxes does count. If you have multiple collections on more than 1 shard like Nails or Nabin, I will only put you down on the Shard where I first met you.

I've been a collector on and off since the 1990s. Pacific then later, Napa. I guess you could say I'm from Napa.

At one time I was a rares guru of sorts (under a different name), back when pretty much only the server births were around and not many were into this. I'm long since forgotten, which is the fate of most people, eventually.

I never got the knack down on selling rares for more than I paid for them or being at the right place at the right time or figuring out riddles, so I missed out most of the time. Therefore my collection is very small. (Although I've been buying lately)

I believe between my doll collection and Crux Ansata Items in the one house alone, qualifies. Also If Bon Iver ever opened his house to the public, he has that many rares in the floral & fauna area

tho not a personal fan of rubble, id probably try to figure out how to include it. you surely wouldnt want just any old rubble to count, but maybe the "ultra rares." or 5 or so and so makes 1 or this or that. there are some pretty impressive rubble collections. I dunno who owns the one in Ter Mur Atlantic, but its the best one that i know of.

I have two museums the one that's open to the public is located NW corner of Zento against the wall. The main collection at that museum is on the roof and in neon xmas boxes, and then look in the gold boxes to see the xmas statues. My other museum is mainly server up's, and at this time is closed to the public for viewing untill I have time to make it more presentable. Shameless plug still looking for large xmas statue collections and other scarcer xmas designed (style) EM items.

Please do not add me to the list though, I do not wish to be apart of it. The only reason that I state that is so that the text below isn't simply dismissed as someone who is upset because they aren't good enough to get on this list. .

I just have to say that making folks qualify as a collector based on worth or quantity is asinine. If ALL I had was my exceptional quality collection ... I should qualify even if the net worth isn't as high as others. That collection I would put to the test to see if it is the most complete in the game and having collected it for 10+ years, it is the core passion of collecting. I think requiring folks to do math and cataloging in order to have them be listed as a collector is stupid. I think folks having to have a certain "net worth" to be listed is stupid. An' no offense Manticore, but I don't see why this list in the form of any criteria is needed. I would much rather see a thread sharing their collections no matter how small they are and then if you want to make a private list with those that collections that are larger than you should do so. There are folks out there with themed collection such as smithing, juka items, roses, whatever that regardless of how many millions of gold they may be worth have been collecting for years and have an impressive collection for their chosen theme. The strength of this community and a sign of how healthy it really is ... is how many small collectors there are.

I've heard countless complaints both as a moderator and as a collector of how new collectors felt as if they didn't matter and that they felt pressure to buy gold and have a giant collection in order to be given the time of day or to have those with a large collection appreciate the work. I'm not naming names. An' you all can deny it, but I know the dozens upon dozens of times folks have come up to me to share how frustrated they are. Until that attitude changes... until folks are more inviting and friendly to new members... until collectors don't feel the need to whip out their financial pixelated e-peens when a new collector shows his collection... this will continue to happen. To me... the poor are just as valuable for their ideas, their worth and what they can contribute to the community as the rich.

I'm sure I'll be ridiculed over my feelings on this subject, I will get my share of messages with the insults and stay on the fringes of the "in" crowd for not conforming to the popular opinions. I will not detract from this thread with further participation, but I felt I had to speak for the "little" guys. Perhaps at least one person will give it some thought and reach out to those who don't meet this criteria and help them feel as if their collection of prepatch shipwreck or whatever that is important to them... isn't worthless or less important because it isn't worth hundreds of millions of gold.

Assia, I didn't put your name on the list because I knew where you stand on this issue from the past. I put a limit on requirement simply because there is just 1 of me and I don't have enough time to answer all the ICQs and going through the verification process for everyone. Now with that being said, those countless complainers are more than welcome to start another thread and maintain a separate list which is perfectly in their own right. My post does not exclude anyone other than if they can't hit that minimum # I just won't list their name on the top but they can always post within this thread as some already have and keep the thread live. No one will insult your opinions as you are a well respected individual in this community and always your comments brings a different angle to these discussions.

One of the many reasons I became a collector derived from hanging out at Thomas Bryces first fest and visiting the homes and all the different kinds of collections out there. I am hoping everyone on this post will be there and will give tours of their places on their shards.

Assia it was your love of Double exceptional items and your mushroom circle (which I bring everyone I meet and is interested to visit your home often) That makes every piece of furniture in my home required to be at least prepatched. Manti it was your display of items in a museum manor that keeps me in awe and makes me to continue to strive and learn about the rares collectors and their Love of different items.

Hiya I think my collection meets the requirements to be on the list, not sure though. my home is located on the Atlantic shard, it is an in town luna house located at the southern crossroads of luna, (you were there looking around a couple days ago) the name on the house sign is Shaka Zulu, although this is my main character nowadays. thanks for making the list, its a great idea.

I appreciate the list just to know where and who has what. It's interesting. I don't think it's meant to eliminate anyone or make anyone else feel elitist. I could be wrong since I "qualify" to be on the list. I will say it does not diminish the work or efforts anyone else has done on their collections. At least not in my eyes.
My collection is modest compared to others. I have chosen to do a "theme" (actually four... two are still in process) with my items instead of a general collection of awe inspiring items.
I understand, I would be sad if I didn't "qualify" since the work I am doing on these four houses (two are open for viewing) hasn't been easy or cheap (lol). We have to keep in mind that Manticore's list isn't "official" and its his is own "qualification list". We can make other such lists, and there is a sticky up top for folks who can show off their museums with no qualifications at all.
