UOGuide down?

Haven't seen anyone else post about this, but is UOGuide currently experiencing database issues for anyone else?

UOGuide is always pretty slow. Seems a lot of UO fansites have downtime issues routinely.

I thought it was JC the Builder but I'm not sure if he handed it off to someone else when he stopped playing.

I believe UOGuide was associated with the UOForums chaps; Nimuaq used to do a lot of the editing but has since left the game, and there weren't many major contributers left. I did a little, but not much, and I don't think anyone has tackled any of the content since the Awakening sadly? But yes, it's down for me too, I went to cross check the Parrot article I improved upon and can't get in on my registered account either.

In the past, it's apparently been hit by a chinese data mining bot, which is why it has run slow; they banned the IPs of that but what's happened now, I couldn't tell you I'm afraid.

Same here, it's a fantastic website and a great resource for players old and new. I hope it is only a temporary outage.

I agree. I find it much easier to find content than on Stratics. The Wiki format is just so intuitive.

Well, whoever has it will hopefully soon either fix it or let someone here know that they are no longer interested in hosting it. Whatever the current issue is - hosting a wiki site is no biggie - and I'm sure there are resources here for whatever is needed to get it back up and useable on a permanent basis.

They had forums on UOForums a long time ago but moved off those forums and to their own - I know some of the contributors are still on UOF, but as far as I know JC the Builder owns and maintains it.

I check the site almost every day still.

This is not a run of the mill server error that is usually fixed with a restart. I have never seen this before. The entire database table containing all the article information is gone. I have to restore it and am trying to figure out the best way to go about this. It may take a day or so.

Suffice to say, I found it. And it appears all is well again. I think this is the longest amount of time we have been offline ever.

As a special bonus I am doubling the amount of memory on the server. This should make the site faster
