Dungeons and Dragons (Playing in UO)

Hey there everyone, I've had this crazy idea since just after I got here to throw together a D&D group that would play once a week. We would meet at my house on Napa (all players will be made friends so they can login/logout there) and the whole point of the game is to have FUN!

I'm offering to DM the game if we're using 4th Edition rules, and I would even be up for running the latest D&D Next ruleset (which I hear is actually rather good) if others are interested in that. I've got a series of campaigns that I wanted to run through with people local to me, but they all moved away a few months ago. The series is rather fun and I think that even new players to the D&D Universe would really enjoy it.

All you would really need to play is a Player's Handbook for whichever edition we're running and I'll do the rest... because I actually have all of the 4th Edition books (including all of the 'Dungeon' and 'Dragon' magazines).

I'm only looking for FIVE players right now, though if there is enough demand I may run two groups. We will chat either over TeamSpeak or Skype, but all actions played will be done in-game. (IE: If you say it in UO, then that's what's happening. If you say it on the VoIP then it hasn't)

Anyone interested can reply to this post and I'll chat with you from there. You can also ICQ me at 645280391

Thanks a really interesting idea. I might be up for this depending on what day / time you run the group.

I'm willing to buy the book and have 100% attendance and bring punch and pie* if you don't mind someone who's never played. I think it's a great idea and I've always wanted to. I think UO is a great medium as well. And I almost literally S*** my pants at what kelmo posted.

*punch and pie is for sole consumption of Ray. Patent pending.

Standard 4th Edition Ruleset.

It's usually focused a bit more on how the team works (tank/healer/dps/support) but I'm very good at adjusting it so that I can run an all thief or all mage or all fighter team. They're actually a lot of fun, usually.

Sound like a ton of fun honestly but I'm finding little time to even play UO let alone do some good ole "Pen & Paper" RP'ing While logged into UO. On a totally nerdy side note I did just come across an old notebook of mine where I chronicled all the best parts / Quotes / Dice Rolls / & General Moments of Awesomeness that make long time D&D groups with friends so much fun. The ending Quests / Sessions of a group that started in middle school lasting a little over a decade (people moved away etc...) Ahhh.. good times... 10 pages of bullet notes & sentence long descriptions ..

Good luck! I Feel the same way about my old leather bag of dice as I do about my UO pin & Cloth Map LoL

Frodo: Arr matey, ye could probably find a torrent of the book somewhere (yes, that's a not so subtle hint.)

I suppose you COULD do that... but I always like to have the books on-hand. I've got a big bookshelf just full of 'em. I even have a bunch of binders with each edition of the D&D Next rules in each binder (complete with a hand-drawn cover) I figure I can sell 'em one day perhaps, who knows.

Anyway, just so long as you have the book, that's all you really need. The other books will also be useful if you want advanced stuff, but I can manage those for you as well.

Alright, let's all get together and chat in-game. Anyone who wants to join the D&D Group should meet me on Napa Valley on Friday, October 5th at 9am (pac time) at New Haven. We'll hammer out how the game will work and schedules and whatnot. We can also figure out what kind of team we're putting together so I can get the adventure tuned (if it needs it).

Saturday, October 5th
9am Pacific Time (12 Eastern)
Napa Valley Shard
New Haven Square
Anyone who still wants to play but can't make it, please let me know through Stratics Messaging and I can add your name to the temporary roster. I'm rather looking forward to adding this event to my regular schedule, so hopefully we can get something going!

I can't make anything that's not on a weekend. I would like to sit in and watch this just so I can learn how to play the game.

How do we know if we're one of the five? I'd hate to plan to show up and have to naked slap fight for a spot.

Unless some of you guys are ripped models. :hula:

No I'm not gay... it's a joke.

Right now there are only two people showing up. If we have more than five I am sure that we'll be able to make it work out.

I'd play, being an old school D&Der, but I prefer 2nd Edition to any other... besides, have a slew of events happening on saturday already. :) enjoy!

20 minute countdown until we get started. We'll probably just chat in New Haven for about 20-30 minutes and then head to my house around 9:30. Anyone who shows up will be invited to join the D&D group!!

Alright, we're going to give this another try, but this time we're going to play at my new home on Atlantic. The shard has a MUCH larger population, so if we are a bit dry then we will still be good to play.

Who: I'm looking to get a total of five players. This is NOT a first come first serve situation, so everyone should arrive who wants to play
What: Dungeons and Dragons Startup Campaign (4th Edition Ruleset)
When: Saturday Mornings beginning October 19th, 2013 at 9am Pacific, 12pm (noon) Eastern. Games will last for 3-5 hours on average
Where: The Endal Cottage, North of Britain in Trammel (see map below) (gates can be cast leading to New Haven Square or Luna Chapel)
Why: Because Dungeons and Dragons is freaking AWESOME!

Campaign Details: My plan is to start us out at Level 1 using a modified version of Hommlet (Temple of Elemental Evil Campaign) and from there I will run my versions of the best campaigns ever designed for D&D. You will experience Ravenloft, The Tomb of Horrors, The Spider Queen, and the Giant Kings. If you don't know what these are... you soon shall, and you will (hopefuly) love every second of it!

Homework: Think about what kind of characters you will want to play. Use literature (or movies) as a good basis for how you want your character to start out as and we will develop them further from there.

Needed: You will need, at the very least, a copy of the Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition Player's Handbook. I'm not going to ask how or where you got it from... so that's all on you. You will also need Skype and a microphone (no video required) so we can all chat. Chatting in Skype is all OOC, chatting in the game is all done IC, so don't say anything in the game that you don't want to actually have happen.

I would recommend that you read through the Player's Handbook at least once so you understand gameplay if you haven't played 4e before. I will be setting up the first couple of sessions with situations that will hopefully let you all understand how your characters work to the best of my abilities.

Just a reminder that the first game is going to be played TOMORROW, Saturday October 19th. I will be logged on by 8am Pac (11 est) and will be in my house. I will create a new channel called UO D&D and will be on my character who can open portals to New Haven or Luna, otherwise just walk on over.
  • Gamplay starts at 12 noon EST (9am pac), but you can arrive up to an hour early.
  • We will be chatting through Skype for OOC talk, anything said in UO is said as your character.
  • Join the channel UO D&D when you logon
  • Let me know if you're at New Haven or Luna and I will open a portal for you, otherwise, just run to the house.
  • Please leave your pets at the stable (there is one just south of my house). This is one of my pet peeves.
  • My house is set to Private. I will be on my porch for that hour before gameplay and will be in my chat room throughout the game. I'm more than happy to add you all as friends.
  • I will supply a Personal Attendant to be our game dice, but if you would like to bring one of your own, that's perfectly fine.
Directions to my house in Trammel:

We're gearing up to play right now. Any last minute players should log into Atlantic so we can get going.
