Hugibear accused of underhand tactics in victory

Controversy marred the final hours of the election campaign in Britain when new governor, Hugibear, was accused by rivals of using dirty tricks to swing the contest in his favour. The claims came from Sprago's campaign manager, Baby Doll, who asserted that her opposite number, Bo, had brought in dozens of foreign labourers with dubious citizenship eligibility in order to swell his vote count to an unassailable lead.

It has been a dramatic end to a day which began with pirate Hugi holding a narrow 20-17 advantage over the current governor. But by late in the day, Sprago's appeal to friends and supporters had seen him almost double his vote to take a 32-20 lead, mostly thanks to allies Legion of Honor. But in the last five hours, the pirates added an amazing thirty-eight votes to bring the final figure to an impressive 58-33 margin in their favour.

Pirate guild leader, Parium the Black, was quick to scotch the accusations, insisting that almost all the votes had come from Arrr members or their allies. But Baby Doll insisted that Bo and his supporters were openly admitting that they had used outsiders to rig the election. No doubt the political back-biting will continue for some time to come, but election officers in Britain proclaimed that no rules and been broken and that all those who had voted were eligible to do so.

“The city of Britain has declared that Hugibear is the new legitimate governor of the city, “ announced the voting supervisor, “there will be no recounts or reruns.”

And so it is that the citizens of Britain are preparing themselves for what is likely to be an interesting and very different style of government for the next three months, although for some it is too much.

“I'm disgusted,” said Goliath, “I'm a citizen of Britain, but not for much longer. We have witnessed some true political garbage today.”

For others, though, it will be business as usual. “Everyone knows how politics gets dirty in the big cities,” shrugged one passer-by.

Way to report trash talk instead of facts, of course, I guess you'd have a difficult time being impartial since you are allied with the trash talker!

To officially set the record straight, no one called in hoards of people from Atlantic or any other shard. ARRR now has a number of alliance mates who are supporting Huggi for Mayor of Brit. So, have a coke and a smile and... Have a nice day. :)

And us unaligned people should listen to you instead of him when you are clearly biased also? Perhaps you are the ones not speaking the truth?

Saying something never makes it the truth - just that it was said.

JHC, Kat, OPEN YOUR EYES. Why are you always so dead against anything which is trying to give the shard a boost?

Can't you see, PLEASE TELL ME YOU CAN, that these news reports are written in an RP (that's roleplay if you are struggling to understand) context? Putting a different spin, humorous where possible, on things that are happening in the game? Trying to bring a bit of interest into something that would otherwise go relatively unnoticed? The two quotes in the above article were genuine ones that came from the only two people in GC that wanted to make a comment on the matter. I would gladly have taken a quote from a Higubear supporter if one had been available.

And for the record, I really have no problem with what occurred. I freely admit that we used the same tactics last term when we brought in anyone we could get in order to bury the SL candidate in Yew. It's all part of the political game really. Neither do I have any problem whatsoever with Bo being elected, apart from disappointment on behalf of my alliance friend. Experience from the first elections, where our alliance took seven seats and could comfortable have taken the other two had we had any candidates that wanted the jobs, showed me that there is little value to holding governorships from a guild/alliance perspective. What counts is having eager, reliable people in the job who will do what a governor is supposed to do - serve their electorate. And I sincerely hope that as many governors as possible this time will fulfil that role.

Exactly. Which is why what Babydoll said should not be reported as truth.

And to Hoffs: What Babydoll posted in the other thread was NOT written or meant in the spirit of roleplay and most definitely should not be reported as such. It was a cry thread, accusing Huggi, his guild mates, alliance mates and supporters of cheating to win. All this report did was bring the issue to another thread.

They were NOT foreign laborers. They were fellow pirates. We all sale together at some time or another, which makes us like family.

It's fairly obvious that Alcor's reporting style is to attract attention and be somewhat provocative, that's what reporters do to get people to read their stories. Congratulations Kat, you have been provoked by the media.

Erm, well of course it wasn't. The job of this news reporter is to report the events that happen in the game, many of which are not RP, especially those that occur on the boards here. The actual article just reported those accusations with an RP slant, together with Parium's denial, but went on to indicate that the result was legitimate. As I said previously, the quotes at the end of the article came from the only people on at the time of writing who had anything to say on the matter. Speaking with a news reporter's hat on, something like this is a goldmine and is just the sort of thing you want really.

I suppose you would feel that way since this reporter is one of your own, but its not the sort of thing WE want. Our responses to the alligations that were levied against us have NOTHING to do with "role play" and have no place in his or your little role playing sessions.

Ye be worried about nothin'. Believe it or not but we Pirates are liked and we have numerous Alliance members and friends. I know i took all our Pirates to Vote Hugibear. As Hoff said "And for the record, I really have no problem with what occurred. I freely admit that we used the same tactics last term when we brought in anyone we could get in order to bury the SL candidate in Yew" . So i feel we won The Capital City, and we will see how next month goes :p
