What Interests You the Most in Ultima Online?

I considered making this a poll but I couldn't possibly cover everything people enjoy doing.
What is your "thing" in UO?
Be it collecting, decorating, pvp, fishing, crafting, quests, peerless, Em Events, picking up reagents off of the ground, or running a shop, what would you like to hear more updates about?

What makes you click a link to read a post? Why do you enjoy doing what you do?
Have you ever made a video of your activities in UO? Would you watch some if there was a place you could view them?
Do you like discovering things on your own or are you the type who can't pass up a spoiler?

I know most of us enjoy multiple parts of the game. I've been really enjoying a wider variety lately. I'm trying all sorts of new things that I hadn't done in a long long time.

For me, the best "thing" about UO - is that there seems to be an almost unlimited number of things I can choose from.... When I get tired of doing what I've been doing, there are a zillion things that I can find to keep me feeling happy that I'm still here....
I have crafters, bards, mages, tamers, fishermen, thieves, deco wanna-bees, collectors, and fighters... How can anyone ever get bored with UO with all the choices we've accumulated over these past 16 years?

I enjoy most all of it... Sorry Flutter, but if you're looking for some kind of "favorite" activity - I just can't help you... They're all my favs....

In game I like Plants, Crafting, and I like doing stuff where I have to cross heal another warrior together. Duo stuff without needing a tamer is awesome. The stuff that requires tamers puts me off.

On Stratics I like to just participate.

I haven't made a video and I don't think I want to. I do want to make an article for Stratics for like a skill or something.

My favorite thing is Rune Libraries and exploring. I love that we can mark and go places.

Auctions are also fun! And we just had an EM event. The EMs on Chessy are pretty cool.

I guess my "thing" in UO is primarily the community aspect, which thankfully seems to be making a resurgence!! Other than that the primary draw to me is that the potential to do things are dang near limitless. Have a day to where the prescription pain killers has my mind clouded just log in and bank sit and chew the fat and maybe work on collections. Only have a few minutes to play, log in and hit shame and see if you can hit the latest version of the UO lottery.

What makes me click on a post? Well, I watch the live feed and get a slight indication if a thread is something interesting or not. When I do comment I hope the folks just get my sense of humor when I run with it and do not get offended. Sadly that does not happen at times, but that's a risk I run having the mindset I do

Videos? Nah, haven't made any because I still have not found a video capture program I like. I do view them at times tho (and NO.. not just the nekkid variety ) .... I would be in for having a place here just so folks could post videos of things that happen... and would honestly like to see the old Noobie cartoon bits that used to be around, miss those things. Maybe some of you tech types can figure out how to combine the two

One other thing while we are on stuff like this.... I still run across a LOT of folks who don't have a clue what Stratics is. Maybe talking the higher ups into adding a Stratics logo on the log in page would be a good idea. Hey, if I am gonna dream I am gonna dream BIG!

Through the years:

Solo PvM. I like seeing exactly how far I can go with just myself and/or some pets. Some things were/are easier than others, depending on the time period of the game & what additional spells they were given access to (i.e. monsters with Necromancy spells added to their casting list)
1v1 PvP (I, and many others on Lake Superior, would regularly go to Wrong Roof for duels)
Group PvM (Doom, Champ Spawns)
Group PvP (Champ Spawns, once again)

Y'know, I have the strangest feeling that I just might like fighting A LOT...

Housing is still the key feature for me that makes UO so special.

I'm hoping I can get to decorating/redesigning the town I'm governor of. I don't really see the need for NPC cities in a sandbox game, they should be built and kept by players IMO.

Roleplay.

The ability to create a community and build it.... litterally. With housing...

The ability to dream up and idea of who you want to be (ie your character) and become that.

The way you can decide... I think I want to be a lowly beggar! And you can. Want to play the game as a cat? You can do that. Dog if you fancy even. I even play a rabbit on a few shards. It's fun.

I can collect things... be Mayor (Governor now even)... Be evil and plot evil things.... Darn goodie goodies always spoil my fun though!... oh well it's still fun to see a plot go and grow and then yes even get quashed...

I don't like to be told where to go and what to wear. I don't like the game to lead me around by the nose and set a path for my character.... I play a game to escape politics, homelife, work.... etc... I don't want to grind... I don't want to quest... I want to imagine I am who I am playing.... if it's Malag or Willa or whoever I choose... Bill the Beggar.... It's all for fun. It's not about beatting anything or winning.... or losing... It's about the community.

I love the community feel you get from UO. Friends who will help you.... people to chat with... folk who would come to your aid... be by your side... Help you build a community that lasts years... That's what I really love about UO.

You've asked some very good questions, Flutter. As far as what is "my thing" in UO, that has varied over the years. It might be easier to say what "my thing" isn't; however, I'll try to answer.

I'm not much into collections, although I do enjoy decorating. I've done fishing, crafting, plant growing, some not-too-challenging quests from time to time. I tend to avoid anything that feels more like office work than play (if it requires maintaining detailed spreadsheets I'm not interested).

Although I appreciate the fact that many players enjoy PvP, it holds no attraction for me at all. I'm not fond of dungeons. I occasionally hunt, usually to keep my chef's larder supplied. At times I enjoy other types of resource gathering.

More than anything else in the game, I truly love being able to participate in a small role-play community in a relaxed, supportive capacity. I guess there's an underlying nurturing instinct at play, since my favorite role is that of a chef with a mission to feed people. My dream-come-true would be to see food become more important in the game!

I enjoy reading a wide range of forum posts, since information gleaned and the thoughts of others can be very valuable. The forums (in my mind) are essential to fully appreciating the game itself.

In short, I guess "my thing" is to enjoy whatever aspects of the game most appeal to me at any particular moment, while appreciating the amazing diversity of UO and the people who play it.

Variety. I am a crafter, sampire, mage, tamer, collector... if I was limited, I think I would have left UO a long time ago permanently. I am disenchanted with EM events (long story short- item *****s, EMs who think that for an event to be good it must be a slaughter house, EMs who feel that holiday clickies need to be put in hostile areas, EMs who act like they are all holier than thou, ect).

I agree if I had a program for doing them and such I would now that I have better internet (crossing fingers hoping to have better luck now with connection) I think I should be able to record events... one would hope.

I agree 100% about EM events... I'm quickly becoming disenchanted by them. Seems it's all about Items..... and drops and making billions per item.... it's not anymore about RP or community. Feel betrayed and lied to. Rumors about about how a certain person on the "Team" has ties to a guild that pretty much is all about disrupting the shards and EM events. It's rumored that they have a "mate" in the guild and they seem to know pretty much when there is a drop on what shard. So if it weren't true then how do they know? Pretty pathetic if you ask me and it's starting to upset more than a few folk.
