Exploring the Depths for a New Player

I get on today and I see the guild is doing something. I ask and they're busy so I don't immediately get a response. Frustrated, I search UO.com and Stratics for what's going on... Finding nothing I reach out to the guild again.

A more experienced player says they posted a story on UO.com that tells you the quest starts at Trinsic. So I go and read the only story on UO.com. After reading Enchantment of the Royal Sea Part 1 I am not lead to Trinsic for the quest. So I inquire in the guild again...

No one responds...

I voice frustration on being uninformed. Guildie acts like it's obviously listed on UO.com that there is a new quest so I read everything again. They point out the Origin Izumo news and I finally see it! But, it only shows for those two shards. They then point to the next article and it all makes sense.

It shouldn't be this hard should it?

In a perfect world? No, it shouldn't be this hard. I would have expected the UO.com entry listed as "patch notes" to actually be the full patch notes, but then I also would have expected your guildmates to be a little more verbose than "go read uo.com" too. However, this is a sixteen year old game filled with lots of folks who have forgotten what it's like to be a new player. So it's assumed you know where to find all the information and how UO communicates etc.

Hang in there. In the future when it doubt, read the first doze or so posts on stratics UHall forums. It's always the first place I check when something is going on in game that I'm sure of.

Here you are... is that how you want UO? Served on a Silver platter?

Guildies were busy doing the event. I got on late. They'd eventually have told me.

No Malaq, but that it should be somewhere in between Silver Platter and what it is now. Just constructive criticism. Corporations pay for feedback like that from customers.

Your guild could have been more understanding and helpful. They may not have responded if they had started the boss fight. I was like you, confused at first how to begin. The back ground story was wonderful, but I wasn't sure where to begin until I read the publish info. A lot of the people on my shard ,LA, didn't know about the event. In chat, I let people know where to get information and where to start. A guild mate and I have been going through the quest so we can guide people. Looking for spots where people might need support(healing and controlling other mobs),also making a rune book for people to use. Just like we have always done.

Great idea. :)

EDIT: Guild and Alliance is REALLY helpful. This incident was out of character. The chat is pretty difficult to follow when doing stuff at times.

Glad to know that it was out of character for your guild and alliance :) No kidding about following chat. Lol I can't count the number of times I've died because I had conversations in both guild chat, party chat, and icq all at the same time.

It can be done alone ....I did that for the report... But its not recommended.

We did it with about 20 people yesterday at the same time, and although that can be very hectic its much easier. But sometimes players in your group can get 2 or 3 of the same quest items can give it to the others who don't got it. (Not enough or no damage to the monster) .

All I know is I would like another event of CHAOS all over all the city's with a slim chance of cool USEFUL shinnies. An event that everyone can participate in at the same time any time day or night.

I don't mean to complain or sound ungrateful... but with the amount of work you have to go through to participate in this event... AND the work you go through to help your friends get keyed... it just doesn't seem like there are any rewards worth it or useful to any main stream builds pvp or pvm related. Just because something is a hard to get artifact doesn't mean its useful....

Did the quest alone... Very Challenging...

However my thoughts on the end boss... well .... is there such a thing as TOO many Wisps???? Really does he have to bring out 20 each time?????? Don't you think that's a bit much? There were sooo many corpses of wisps in there I could barely find my body or see what was living and what was dead. And if that wasn't bad enough the LAG from all that was horrible!

You only have to go trough it all one time. After that 1 person needs to open the hold and everyone can jump in to kill the boss. When the hold is closed it would take 10-15 minutes with 1 person to get the 4 repair parts from the barrels, and if you have them, they last 5 hours. Yesterday 1 person got the parts while we started to help people trough the event. 3 hours later he gave us the parts for us all to enter, but that was needed because the hold was still/already open for us to jump in. :)

Oh and for the wisps, carry some pieces of blackrock with you. :)

In theory you can fight with the boss all day. :)

Well I like the idea that the boss is hard. It forces people to work together and come up with a strategy. The wisps are manageable with a couple of spell weavers using essence of wind. What I don't like is the fact that my group of 6 people have killed it 8 times now and there has only been two drops total that are fairly useless to any current builds. Hopefully I am not making a jerk out of myself by speaking to soon... It just doesn't seem worth all the effort yet.

Yes, large pieces of blackrock are indeed your friend, not sure if the small pieces work, I assume they don't but someone feel free to correct me.

When it comes to the boss there are certain strategies you can use that makes it easier (NOT easy). A bard is definitely a must have imo though. First fight we fought on Atlantic last night was intense. MASSIVE death all around. I joked with a few about needing to set a macro to rez, heal and invis them specifically lol. The second fight I helped with went very well with some strategic things some of them had come up with. Death was minimal through the fight. If I had to guess I would say maybe 10-12 deaths total for the fight.

When it comes to the wisps though, it kinda seems like a few wisps spawn per person (or crab) spawn at a time or something. Any one else verify my thoughts there?

Any tips for a pure mage w/ EVs? :/

Get used to watching them be dispeled quickly is the best tip I can give you there. First fight after the crabs dies I went pure mage on it. Almost wore out my macro key for EV's. If I had to do that again I would stone Myst onto the character and run with RC's.

I'm geussing, 1 or 2 wisps a person. When we went the first time, we only had 5 people in the hold, not that many wisps, yesterday with 20 players, a bazzilion. :)

Cast Ev's and hide, and don't try to kill every monster in sorceress dungeon. ;)

I should have been more specific :x...I was curious about soloing the very end boss with a pure mage :)...not sure I'll be able to do it on Origin :(

Its not easy on any character. Maybe i should try with a pure warrior. I get pulled to the boss anyway. ;)

Did it on my mystic/mage/weaver.... just cast RC and hid a LOT.... drew the engineer out to the middle room entrance. He'll go back in but the spawn seemed more interested in the water in the back of the room than me. I would clear up stuff he was spawning if it came to me casting wildfire but you might try the meteor strike.... or something. Invis a LOT. Keep things concentrated on your EV's...

As for the Djinn..... I was letting my RC take care of him and I was leading the massive amounts of spawn around on a wild goose chase leaving them here and there in the desert.... (I was NICE and came back after killing the Djinn and cleared up the left overs. Most this crap wouldn't be so bad if people cleared up the room when they were done. I was down there at the Engineer and there must have been over 100 orcs down there. I couldn't really tell what one was the engineer or what with all that stuff down there. (IMO this crap should "despawn" when the one who summoned it dies... or at least only last as long as a regular "summons" does for us. Just OVERKILL IMO.) The Brigand actually wasn't too bad. I had thought he'd be worse... He just has a heck of a lot of spawn and HP. The brigands he spawns aren't the nasty take 40 min to kill do reflect all over you (Thank the GODS or NO ONE would be able to get the quest done)... anyway... again pull him off... focus yourself on the boss with the EV's and take out the rest with area spells or just ebolts one by one. Earthquake might not be too bad. As for the mage area getting the regs..... run, run, run as fast as you can.... be the invis man and don't stand anywhere for too long. I also spent the time killing any paragons I came upon cause I honestly didn't want to have to try to "sneak" past them or have to run and have them take me down when I"m low on HP. I got lucky there weren't too many though the paragon Lich Lord was a MAJOR pain. I was thankful that the balron wasn't a paragon.

Good luck.

(As for the end boss... Be sure to have plenty of insurance money in the bank because you WILL be needing it. And hope and pray there are plenty of others there to help... And yes I forgot about the piece of blackrock... I'll remember that for next time!)

I guess EM Dudley didn't have total control of that one ;)
