It would be nice to be able to mark, even if just in a few spots, in Ilshenar.

I hate Ilshenar. It's beautiful, it's fun to wander through, and there's plenty of fun things to hunt there.

But I absolutely hate getting there. Having to recall to a public moongate, then go through the menu, pick the shrine I want to pop out at, it's a pain in the rear.

There should be at least a few spots in Ilshenar itself that can be marked, if not freely making the whole facet markable.

I do understand the original reason they put a block on marking runes there as it was for champ spawns.
I do agree its time to lift that ban.
How many players do you see running around them??
Oh you might see a bunch on Atlantic... but its damn rare to see a soul on any other shard there.
There are many reasons to relax the rune making, one is the t maps.
As many of you have heard me and a few others yip about dragging a pet there is quite a task..
Second the area is under used. And for the very same reason the t hunters toss the ish maps in the trash ... (my sneaky picks them up all the time in the trash areas.)
While the dev is thinking this over they might want to make the ant tunnels a markable place again for runes. I was on Oceania when we there could come and go recalling in and out and the place was widely used till the restriction was placed. I think it was a bad move...

apparently people do ilshenar spawns more than fel spawns on some shards.

I think the whole facet should be markable - it's just going to waste the way it is now - it's a big giant waste

I agree. The only bad thing I can see is script miners having new spots never gone by. Script miners using gargoyle pickaxes and spawning paragon rare ores would be a sad thing.

Dreadhorn and dungeon areas should remain blocked.

Now if the MArty drops are going to get an update of some cool starter imbue gear. Or new cool deco we don't have to pay RL cash for. Then marking runes there needs no fix.

Allowing marking in the ant holes will just devalue the current quest done there. On the hand more new players would find more tamers willing to get them a blue beetle. Make a beetle spawn at the Minoc ant hole first room would help that.

I think Ilshenar needs a permanent Treasures of Tokuno system with new drops turned on. I know they have Paragons which adds some challenge, but those drops are now stale and fall too infrequently to encourage people to adventure into Ilshenar on a regular basis.

The slow drop rate is fine. New drops would make it better. Funny how the simplest ideals and the easiest work illudes the designers. Game has untapped greatness already in place.

I agree that Illsh needs a facelift update. It has 100's of treasure chests that spawn all over the dungeons..... ALL EMPTY. Such a waste for thieves. Infact most all of Ilsh is a waste for thieves. Sure you can steal from monsters but there are no Illsh treasures to take. Sad really. Save the new "exodus" stuff. Exodus dungeon good start needs more.

Rock Dungeon was always my favorite after the paragons first came out but now is vacant as ever.


Siege needs to be able to get scrolls in Illsh just as you do in the Fel Dungeons.... afterall it is Fel everywhere so why in the world don't ALL the Champ spawns on Siege act like Fel Champs?????? They ought too... it's all a risk so it all needs a reward. Just saying.

Illsh would be an awesome place for a great many things if we could mark there. And I also agree not in the dungeons though.... And Risk vs Reward is something to think of why not update the drops from Paragons while at it? They could use improvement. There are pretty much only 3 useful ones anymore the Burglars Bandanna, Alchemists Bauble and the Totem of the Void. Some might use the luck robe but that's pretty much it. And even those need an update. Bring folk back to Illsh.

I think being able to mark runes in Ilshenar is a good call.

Why not add it to the Tweak Requests & Suggestions thread.

On a side note has anything posted in the "Tweak Requests & Suggestions" thread actually come about??

We tend to forget the other Dev teams and their convoluted ideas for UO that never flew far off the drawing board and landed in game in a half wit fashion.
I would agree that Ilshenar needs its doors opened by way of the ability of marking runes and perhaps even the nice idea of making a reason other then the t maps to go there would be a good thing.
We will always have trouble with "bot" miners digging and tree milking. As long as there is money to be made the exploiters of that sort will continue to plague the game.
Treasures of Tokuno was highly successful in catching the players interest in that lands many hunting grounds... I thought it a shame they made it stop... it seemed for a while there to hold our population steady. All they would have needed was to add more choices to the Higher menu periodically to keep the interested going. A similar thing for Ilshenar would be a great pull.
We have a great deal of "play" areas that go unused that I would like to see made into a permanent "Treasures" type system.
Note to that the system already is there in the form of the Treasures of Tokuno and adapting it to use for Ilshenar would be a small bit of well done work that would pay off in player enjoyment. Who knows we might get more older players back as the amusement park that is UO developes.

I think I should be able to walk up to a Balaron and tickle him with my feather from my arrow and he should just hand over his loot>

Nice idea weins201 but do you honestly know the one tickle spot on a balron to gain that loot? ah there is the rub...
This is a good set of ideas to use all the lands we have... I think a good deal of UO is under used. On many shards with so low a population we need a draw to use the shard in as much as we can...
This is not about Atlantic.... if it was possible to exclude that shard, it would not get it because of the population...

I personally walk up to my crystal portal and say "spirituality moongate" or "compassion moongate" and voila I miss the extra step of going to another facet moongate.
Now that does mean I recall back to my crystal portal at my house often...so perhaps I only miss the menu step and not the extra recall.

I had forgotten all about Ilshenar. I rarely have gone there as I dislike the inconvenience of it except for the champ spawns when I had a guild to run it with.

I'm not sure "Used a vet reward choice to get there quicker" is really a step up, honestly.

I say quit being lazy and ride your mount on out there. Better yet take a walk.

Traveling the countryside is an important aspect of the game we do much to little of.

As a Wandering Sage who travels the lands of Sosaria (mostly on foot) I regularly find things I would never have otherwise seen.

Lost items for one. :) The occasional ruin, Monsters to loot, and those cure little mongbats

+1 , dont see any reason to persist with the no marking thing. Always love ilshenar wouldnt mind some minor tweaks/updates either. Just change a few spawns for flavor and variety, add a few creatures here and there so theres something new and interesting to stumble across. That being said I like ilsh so much I usually wander around on my mount anyhow but the rune marking would be nice

The largely unused parts of our shards have been because of restrictions placed for story line or to keep that which is for the harder needs player.
But with populations down its rare for a guild of any means to use them... our numbers are small on most shards that have visible players at any given hour.
Rune marking is not that big a deal...
Some players have limited amount of time they can devote to the game, so walking as some have said is for some out of the question so the excursion is dropped and there again the area is unused.
Let's face it... there are some things that need this lifting of restrictions. Ilshenar and the Ant tunnels is one.
I use to hunt the dungeons in ilshenar and hated the long run back if I needed to go change or drop off items.. before the sending bag it was hell to get gold out! And the race to get your body before you were bone ............
It wont hunt the game.

My husband and I often have the discussion of not having recall at all, just like siege, I think this actually makes the lands bigger and you have to actually explore and travel and adventure. I know as time has gone by many people don't have the time to dedicate to this game. I don't either but I still enjoy even running from my home to the bank or vice verse. I actually feel like I am in another world as opposed to just logging in and popping to said spot to accomplish task and then recall back home. Doing that takes away from the purpose of being in an online "world". The minute you strip it of it's worldly values it no longer a valuable world.

I'm with the people who say walking around is important. I play in Illshenar a lot and I enjoy the traveling. Personally i think there are too many Shrines as it is.

ONE: This is not about Seige... and walking is for the birds..
TWO: Some have been on this kick of limiting others way too long. If you like walking over a whole shard, that's your fun.. the rest of us who have asked for the discussion of changing the ability are wanting this.
Three: I can see "travel" to learn the land once. But only once. After that its a pain in the arse. This is about game play in a time limited era we now live in.
I do not know about the rest of you, but hours of play have greatly changed over the years in UO. Jobs and RL outside of game activity's have limited in game time.
Those of you who feel that "So what... I do it " attitude should take a chill pill and sit back. This isn't about you. No one is telling you if the change is made that you have to use it.
Your free to walk the shards as you do now... the rest of us would like to pop in and out as we need to in the time allotted us in game play.

This is about helping those of us in game play in the time we have to do so and get some pleasure out of the game that other wise is gong to disuse... the object is to make it more accessable to the masses who DONT have the time to stroll the vast area as if on a picnic.

The ant lair and other areas that are restricted in the "Trammel" ruleset is all we are asking for. The Feluccian should stay the same. (even if I don't like it personally, all my dungeon runes from my early days are worthless... all that good hunting down the drain....) Sigh...........
