Mana used when magery spell fizzles

I'm training a new character, started at 30 magery and got it to 40.2 at the moment. I'm casting Bless on myself - the spell hasn't successfully cast yet, keep getting 'The spell fizzles.' above my characters head, and no icon appears in the buff / debuff bar.

However, I keep running out of mana. Sometimes, it takes 6 mana, but not everytime.

I thought spells only cost mana on a successful cast? I've never noticed losing mana on failed casts before.

you're not failing to cast as such, I'm guessing your char has no eval. You need eval to successfully cast bless

I've always used this route for training the early stages of magery:

30 - 45: Fireball
45 - 55: Lightning
55 - 65: Paralyze
65 - 75: Reveal

then after 75 get a 100% poison mage weapon and hit a golem. Its faster than casting spells and requires no mana

I normally do this
30 - 45: Bless
45 - 55: Greater heal
55 - 65: Magic reflect
65 - 75: Invis

I don't have to search for targets or worry about damaging my armour, and use a magery wep at higher skill.

I've also trained using various fields having set out a few small blackrock as stored targets.

I do hope your also using a -29 wand in hand to lower your magery.

Unrelated, but I've noticed you dismount upon an unsuccessful stone form cast through Mysticism. I've thought that weird, and perhaps a bug.
