Rend and Abscess

I farmed t-maps at Miasma when accidentally met Rend. It killed me. I was surprised how hard it hits. When I came back there were a mystic mage here and we killed Fend pretty fast. I think I need to do it solo.

Could you show me how you are killing it?

I have just tried Fend once more. I got it to 60% pretty easy... then suddenly I got from full HP to about 20 (may be it was a critical hit) and in the next second I was dead (may be it was its breath). So I have got from full hp to 0 hp faster than I made a swing.
I don't know may be it fps issue or connection issue. What could I do?

p.s. Without Slither my sampire has 141 HP and 40 DCI.

IMO, the key to Rend is being ready at a moments notice to heal yourself almost fully. What your experiencing is about the same as Rikktor in terms of damage. First, get to 150 HP, then make sure you are always leeching with HLD in effect and 45 HCI on your suit. With AIs you should keep yourself full. Maybe have curse weapon in effect on top just in case if you have some SS. For Rend, I like to run both 120 bush and parry.

I have no experience with Abcess... just never had a reason to try fighting him.

Abscess hits equally hard. Did this with 120 parrying but i used a reptile slayer double axe.the same way i go for rikktor

How can a sampire heal himself fast? Chivalry spell takes few seconds to cast and may be interrupted. A healing potion heals just 20 hp and I need to switch to balanced or 1H weapon to use it.

I gave the Slither to my dexxer so my sampire is going with a mana orb. I'm to lazy to move the Slither between chars every time and have no gold for the second Slither.

I did Rikktor several times with my 4/6 paladin but never tried it with my sampire.

I'm not ashamed to say I joust Rend. Clean up the minotaurs nearby so you have some room. I hit with AI and run away. The firebreath is the big thing to worry about bc getting hit by one at the same time as his melee can mean you are finished. Repeat until his life is 50%...then you should be able to stand toe-to-toe and hack away. I always use dragon slayer broadsword. Leafblade might be more appropriate for standing toe-to-toe. Afterwards, I get disappointed in the loot.

Well confidence is always a good hp boost and regarding rends or abscess breath attack evasion is very useful if you time it right

And since rend has low poison resist double strike with cw is very useful

Since you are fighting hard hitting mobs try putrefiers in chief parox lair... These are funny

As ive already said today at the labyrinth. Go along with 120 parry and a 100 hll reptile slayer double axe. He hits hard yes but you leech enough hp. Just be ready for using evasion

I tested my dexxer (120 bushido, 55 parry).
A paragon balron and Abscess were easy but Rend is not. I killed it three times. One times it didn't attack me at all for unknown reason so it was easy. But other two times it was hard.

It hits heavy. One time I noticed a 63-damage hit. Other time it hit me twice within a half of a second - 41 and 42 dmg. It had about 20% of hp at that time so 40+ damage looks too high to be breath hit.

It has high combat skill. Sometimes I missed 3-4 times in a row.

Now I think about replacing Fencing with Sword. But I have 5 SSI only (20 with DF) so I need 180 stamina for max swing speed. It's too high taking in account that I use potions vs dangerous mobs only. I could use a Daisho (less damage, less leach values) for DS but there is no fast 2H WW swordsmanship weapon.

Try the double axe for a good 2H whirlwind weapon using swords.

You need 35 SSI (with DF) without weapon to do well with a Double Axe. My char has 20 SSI only.

Well. Cant help you here. My fighting against rend was always with double axe 35 ssi. You could try a daisho. Or you come along with 120 parry and use evasion. I think those hard hits are breath attacks

I take it you have no SSI on your suit and are only getting 20 SSI from your weapon. Correct? If you could adjust your suit slightly to lose 5 DCI from the Quiver of Infinity for the Cloak of Augmentation you could hit 35 SSI with 30 on the Double Axe. Or maybe a nice Shame ring or bracelet would do the trick. Just things to consider if you want to run swords. I personally prefer swords over fencing, but I know melee skill preference is a personal opinion.

It had only 20% hp left. A GD does very little damage by breath attack when it's low hp.

Or you come along with 120 parry and use evasion.
I could replace useless (vs Rend) Resisting Spells with Parry but I want to have an universal build so I tested with his current Parry.

No. My dexxer has 20 SSI without weapon (ring + DF). My sampire has 20 SSI without weapon (jewels + cloak).
I don't want imbue SSI on a weapon because in this case I loose some HLL and HML and I also loose 50 HLA I could imbue instead of SSI.

Now I see that fencing weapons do to low damage:
AI - 13-16 (spear) or 11-15 (leafblade)
DS - 11-14
WW - 10-13

I have just taken my sampire to Destard. With 100 tactics/anatomy and 0 lamberjack she does to dragons about the same damage without special moves as my fencer does with AI. As a result my sampire can fight two GD or one GD + two Dragons at the same time using WW.

Well my suit is not good for a swordsman (I need 35 SSI for the best result). I'm thinking about transforming my fencer to an archer now :).

I replaced Fencing with Archery and tried Rend. It was very easy in spite of:
- my char has 85 unused skill points (fencing)
- her bow hadn't Slayer mod (I wanted an universal bow so I made it Balanced)
- I was pretty lagged so I used left and right arrows to move (I had to run "through" Rend every few seconds taking a melee damage)
- there also was a Minotaur that regularly paralyzed and damaged me (it came when Rend has 50% of HP).

P.S. Of course I didn't kill it as fast as Duncan Drake did with a Double Axe.
