How much is a lot of gold?

To you, that is?

I know everyone has different numbers, I just am wondering what people think is a lot, as in, at what point would you think "Woohoo I'm rich!"

Is it
100k
1m
10m
100m
1 Billion?
10 billion?
100 billion???!?!?

Some other number?

(don't make this into a "I've got 10b so maybe if I got 1 trillion I would be happy", or "haha you think 1m is rich! What a noob". Keep this cllleeeaaannn)

It's honestly hard to say. Inflation in UO kinda makes it difficult to ever really be rich. Then when you add in changes they make, new items etc it's always an ebb and flow imho. The gold always pours out fast.... of course that could just be a problem for me alone lol

A lot of gold is considered the feeling when you can pretty much buy anything you personally are interested in at a moments notice.

That level is different for each individual

Great answer. I reckon I need to reevaluate my interests then... having cotton candy tastes on a bacon budget does suck o_O

I can handle a bacon budget. :D

For me, until recently I'd never seen more than 175mil in one place. Even though I've recently gone past a billion and back, I'd still say a couple hundred million would evoke the "Woohoo I'm rich!" response from me.

As one of those old UO beta type people... 10 k once was a bloody fortune!
Like in RL where a loaf of bread was 29 cents and now your lucky to get one for $2.29...... UO has an inflation economy....
What was once 100k is now no lower then 2.5 mill...(ethy ponys)
What makes one say "YIPEE I'm rich" ............ what makes one happy. For each of us that number is only in their minds eye.
These days my son has in hand or on vendor's a few Billion and spends it same as he gets it... I on other hand am happy enough with what will let me play in comfort and not worry about insurance costs.

My wealth is measured in friendships not gold. I cherish the time spent running a peerless or doing a champ spawn, more Thani cherish gold in the bank. I mean seriously, with the amount of gold that was duped, how can you use Ito measure anything???

Kind of subjective answer. "A lot of gold" varies from person to person and shard to shard.

Personally, I would say it becomes a lot of gold when you have so many checks you have to start storing them in a house.

True. But then again I know folks who have many vendors at their homes and all the vendors are maxed out holding gold too tho ;)

I have gold, but i don't know how much, not because it's too much to count, but just because I don't care. I personally do not play to make gold, I play to be with my friends and have a good time. If i did not have my friends to play with anymore, I'd probably throw everything I had on the floor of some random bank, and just close down my accounts. But a lot of gold is usually measured by having to keep an extra account open just to hold it all :D

I have enough Gold for insurance and to buy things that are not that expensive.
I could have a lot more gold but i usualy give away the items i have what others need that i don't use.

Nice answers!

I've asked this because, I often help new people at a NH, when I see them, and sometimes give them 100k or so, just to get started and a bit of basic gear...
And they are always amazed "Woah 100K you must be rich" or stuff like that, as that is 100x what a new player has. (When there are new players)

However many of us have been around much longer, where 100k isn't that big of a deal.
And I personally have lost touch of what is a lot and a little, as everyone has vastly varying amounts of gold.

I fully agree, wealth can't be measured in gold alone, there is Houses, items, rares, friends, lack of guild drama, memories, etc.

I went to the bank earlier and when it opened I remembered this thread. Then I was reminded of when I had just started and how I would look at a couple piles of 60k sitting off to the side in the box thinking, wow, two piles of gold and a third one building up. I would sit there and try to imagine seeing the whole bank box covered in 60k piles. I remember how happy I would get just imaging how that would look and how UO rich I would be if those little gold piles covered the entire bank box to where I could not see a single speck of the box. I would close the box, head back to the Ettin area of the old Haven thinking I was just raking in the gold and wondering why more folks were never up there hunting these critters that were dropping HUGE amounts of gold. Ahhhh.. man how times change.... now I can't stand seeing the gold piles covering the stuff I need and would not keep a pile in there if NPC's didn't need it :mf_prop:

It depend of what shard you play and how you play.

I play Siege, there I don't really need a lot of gold. As crafter, special imbuer, it's nice to have a few mills, as you need to buy gems, relic and essences and other resources before you can make and sell something.
I'm starting to play a little on my old shard Atlantic, I can see some do have insane much gold. I own 5 mill there I shard traded from Siege. I will play a way, where I don't need to buy much from PC vendors, just craft my own stuff, so I don't think I will need more money there.
I had been on Siege since it was born 13 years ago, it took me a few years to make my first mill, mostly because I gave most away to some who needed it more than me. Now I guess, I have 50-70 mill on all my accounts together, 2 castles and 4 other houses. That's sure a lot more than I need.

I've got more money than I'm happy about on Siege (I enjoy playing a simple life) and nowhere near enough on Atlantic. Been saving up for a Keep on Atlantic for YEARS and they just keep getting beyond my grasp heh. That's what keeps me playing :p bloody inflation! A lot of money 'to me' would be over 500million I reckon, I played long and hard at first but never even made a million. Me, my hubby and brother used to just arse about in nowt but: our undies, a jester's hat, pitchforks, bandages, piles of booze and a backpack full of turnips.

We'd spend the night staggering around the Crossroads looking for a fight *hic*. Never got past owning a small tower on Europa hehe, it was packed to the gills back then.

*wanders off reminiscing, looking for ale*

I think it all depends on the player, to me on Atlantic 100mil is a lot, on Siege 5mil is a lot.
