Are *any* PvP'ers using non-med armour successfully?

Title says it all really.

I have tried building 55% LMC suits for PvP pure archers and disarm archers - it doesn't work - at least for me.

With a non-med suit, you need to accept that you will run out of mana fast in field PvP. Given the huge mana demand that PvP makes, is anyone having real success with any armour setup other than standard leather?

Yes.

What kind of template(s) are you running, and what is the mana regen on your suit? When you say "have tried," do you mean you made the suits, but they aren't performing as you'd like?

The only templates I can currently see working with 55% LMC are thrower/archer or disarm archer. I have made "lite" versions of the suit with imbuing to test out how difficult mana management might be in non-med armour and haven't been impressed. The test suit is lower on MR than I would get if I reforged a suit (when I would b aiming for 12-15 MR) but I'm not doing that unless I'm convinced it's a viable route. As a ranged dexer, I would consider raising resists and dropping DCI but my main worry is mana. The PvP archer templates I have used in the past ran with 80 Med which would be a waste in a non-med suit.

So the question still stands - who is using nonmed armour successfully? Your reply suggests that you are using one Zog and if so, with what template?

Well, please understand I can't give away my very effective trade secret. :) Let me make a few suggestions, though. By "lite," do you mean you tested with MR2? The seeds are a bit expensive, so I wouldn't have bothered "testing" MR2. However, shadow hammers are much less expensive, and they can reforge clean mana regen 3. In the reforging menu, select Powerful Re-forging, Grand Artifice, Inspired Artifice. For the property name, choose Invigorating/of Restoration. Don't bother with anything less: get a dozen shadow hammers, crank out a bunch of exceptional pieces, and reforge them.

Once you get pieces you can work with, don't enhance yet. Powder them up, imbue them fully, then enhance with a 100% reforging tool from the UO store. I always plan things out in Excel, even basic suits. When I make my best suits, I have enhancement bonuses automatically added to the final resists, so when I look at a specific piece's resists, I only worry about its pre-enhancing max resists. Enhancing last gives much more room; it's well worth a few RL dollars.

Enhancing last is also necessary with MR3, because it takes up 150 imbuing weight. It's harder, sometimes impossible, to fit in the resists, LMC and other properties that would be possible with MR2 pieces. I have a couple of clean mana regen 4 pieces I've yet to use, because 200 weight is pretty hard. MR3 is workable, though, and warriors need that extra 5 or 6 mana every 10 seconds. If you have 120 focus and MR20 (MR3 on six pieces, plus a Tangle), mana regeneration is still slower than 120 meditation and MR12.

With 40 LMC, 12 MR, 20 Med I could heal myself unstoppable even if mana drained to zero mana. After the last patch I'm going to try plate armor.

I think the point was to get 55 LMC (5 pieces studded) with as much MR as possible. I think spined kits can do MR3 (clean). For MR4 (clean) you need horned kits, which are a bit more expensive these days.

Zog, I know how to make suits..;p
What I wanted to know is whether or not people are using non-med armour successfully in PvP. You say that you are but cannot share any details. Is anyone else actually *using* studded or plate and if so, in what template? How do you manage your mana?

Sorry if I seemed condescending. From your posts, I couldn't be sure how adept you are at crafting, including your mention of testing "lite" versions. As far as anyone else being successful, I don't know. Typically I'm up against gank squads, but since the Publish 81 changes, stragglers who find themselves alone will attest to the very effective suits I've made.

As Gorbs said, spined kits can give clean MR3 pieces, including studded. You could try MR4 and cobble something together, though you'd probably have to give up something, whether LRC, resists or stamina.

Its just a number crunching exercise... ill do it when i get home bc my tablet sucks heh.. just assume that if you had 80 med before you would have 80 focus now. 55% lmc is effectively a 25% boost in mana regen... You also get more burst dmg and stamina protection....

Hmmm plate armor... Id use it on the no mana max dmg garg wolf form thrower...or a sampire.. if 45% lmc is enough to spam Ai then might as well never have your stam drop too. Allows you no stam leech on weapon if you dont break a certain dmg threshold or get to low on life...

I am using nonmed armor succesfully. I have some DP Disarm archers, a frenzied whirlwind tamer on a bane, a necro frenzied whirlwinder. I don't find I ever really run out of mana. I only have 2 MR on each piece, my mana pool is about 100 on each character.
