Not possible to restore the CC's original Balron art?

I never liked the change. They're shriveled and physically a shadow of the big guys that made Hyth 3 a frightening place.

Over on another UO site (can that competitor be mentioned here?) I found a post about editing bodyconv.def to restore the original daemons, which was done anyway as a default. However, for balrons (creature 40), a -1 value to restore the old art only produces a similar smaller balron, grayish-brown without the holes in the wings. Has anyone played around with this?

lol, I never look in any of those files and folders...If I want to play UO, I best not be doing any poking around behind the scenes :gee:

What did the old one look like?

Edit: Ok, found some pics with a demon holding a sword. Was that the old art?

Probably this one? They were blue, and they were bad. The red name indicates an old screenshot from the notoriety system.

Aye these were the good old times or the good hard times I should say, a balron was impressive to take down

im a little lost here.
we are talking Daemons yet we are showing pictures of Balron's (collectors of souls)
Balron's are grey/white.
Daemons are the same but red.

are you saying you want them back to the graphic with sword (red with a sword?)

Balrons now are grayish. However, they were originally big and blue, using the buff daemon art. See the first picture posted, where I noted the name is red?

If I am not mistaken it is against the ToS to edit game files for the Classic Client (including client side only art etc). It can be done, hell you can make a balron look like a mouse if you wanted too. You could make a mouse look like a cat, and a cat look like a gorilla. There are many things that you "can" do in the Classic Client, however they are all against the terms of service to my knowledge. This is mainly due to things like field/stump. If you don't know what that is, don't ask, I'm not explaining on here.

What seems like a harmless graphic change on the end user only client, can actually be a game changer in that persons favor depending on the graphics changed. Thus the reason they don't allow any of it to be done.

I have looked back and such discussions have been allowed before. However if you search the boards for 'bodyconv.def' you will notice how many of them related to patching problems. This is perhaps an indication of why such ammendments may be considered to be a very bad idea.
A wider search through google will find a thread on exactly this topic on uoforums

Heh I remember the mass of people down in Hyth casting blade spirits and EVs through the wall when pathfinding for monsters was so horrible they could figure out how to simply walk around the wall and slaughter everyone. Then some brave souls scoot up when it falls, loot and run like hell when the next one spawns. Good times. :p

That is the thread I found, but the -1 trick with bodyconv.def no longer works. Because it turns balrons into grayish-brown things that aren't big and buff, I fear it means the "old art" no longer exists.

And in case of bad edits or a patch problem, that's why it's essential to make backups. :)

Those really were great days. It was Hyth 3 or the LL room once you could cast EVs reliably, and my friends and I preferred Hyth 3 because not many PKs dared go there. I used to lure daemons with my bard, who only needed newbie clothes and a newbie instrument, then provoke through the walls. Barding success was simply multiplicative, not difficulty-based, so any 50/50 bard had a 25% chance to provoke a balron.

I think since we have the Enhanced Client, the Classic Client should be restored to pre-lbr classic client.

IE: Old balrons.. Old daemons, white long maned horses as unicorns, orange long maned horses as ki-rin, purple llamas as beatles, and so forth.

After all it is the "classic client". I'd even pay to see this in their former states.

You used to be able to install T2A from the cd, and patch up to current expansions and over ride- before I quit 5~ish years ago. Now you can't. I've uninstalled, reinstalled countless amounts of times from t2a, renaissance, and even the classic client from Third Dawn. Maybe it's because I'm on Windows 7 vs vista or xp.. Oh well... The good -old- days :(

Oh man... I forgot how broken barding used to be. You could go straight from character creation to provoking dragons hehe. Ahhh the good ole days.

It was rather powerful, wasn't it: stand safely behind a wall, provoke everything, and someone could run out and loot. It was great at the Terathan Keep. And since it was legal to trap things in houses and macro, I had quickly GM'd provocation, giving 100% success on everything.

When the first Test Center opened, I made a stealth bard and visited the bottom of the keep, and other hard places I'd never seen. Ordinarily two balrons would be deadly. A hit from each against AR36 was likely death.
