I miss the day when you could go to the chaos shrine and go blue again!

I miss the days when I could go to the Chaos shrine and turn back to blue (only once per char I believe) when you went red.

I currently have three chars that are Red because of my PvP days. I no longer PvP and I dont have the gold or time to collect royal pardons. I would need over 1500 of them for my main mage anyways lol.

I do not recall this but then again never had a red.

I know it rezzed you, I know that post-Publish 16 but pre-AoS if you died as a red in dungeons you'd get teleported to the Chaos Shrine, and that preventing that Shrine from being camped was the only time I've ever heard of the GMs interfering in rez-killing.

I also remember a big murder count wipe as a result of a Harrower bug and people complaining that all their counts were gone.

For your current plight I'd recommend soul stones and advanced character tokens.

Or page a GM and tell him you have no idea how you turned red. Some of them seem to have such a poor understanding of the game and its rules that you'll probably get away with it.

The only full pardons I was aware of, other than the mass wipe due to the harrower bug, was when factions were first out. A character could get all his counts wiped if they joined factions.

There was a catch though. If you went red again, you didn't just go to 5 counts, your pardon was removed and you would be where you were at before.

Viper is correct. With Publish 16, joining factions no longer gave a reprieve to murder counts. There was technically a full pardon when Notoriety was changed to the current system of Reputation. Since Reputation introduced the very concept of murder counts, everybody started at zero and became blue. Fame/karma titles were based on where someone was on the Notoriety scale.

So for today's trip down memory lane: Notoriety didn't have murder counts, but based on negative actions you'd proceed downward. Having a sufficiently low Notoriety title could get you freely attacked at any time, hence the term "noto PK." But it was easy to get back to blue so you weren't freely attackable and could return to town. Changes to notoriety were limited to one movement every 15 minutes, and going up didn't require much. It only required killing a rat. Conversely, going down could happen if you accidentally attacked a blue.

At Dastardly you were gray all the time, and naturally at Dread Lord you were red all the time. This is the old true story of two of my friends meeting someone outside town. This person asked why one was gray and the other was red. One friend said, "I accidentally attacked my friends a few times." My other friend replied, "I accidentally attacked my friends a whole lot of times."

Ah, here's the harrower bug Viper mentioned. I didn't have reds at the time, and I hadn't yet done harrowers, so I had forgotten.

Update 1
On July 26, 2002, the following was published:

A house trade exploit involving the doorways of houses has been fixed.
An issue earlier this week involving Trammel rules on Siege Perilous has been resolved.
Two issues involving incorrect murder counts were resolved, and all characters were given a one-time murder reprieve to relieve any damage done to characters.
A slow skill gain issue with Discordance, Peacemaking, and Provocation skills has been fixed.
Co-owners can now see house decay status on house signs.
Pets in Delucia or Papua were causing the server to crash — this has been resolved.
Houses and boats on Siege Perilous and Mugen are now 9 times regular shard prices (rather than the previous 10 times or recent 30 times prices). All other items will remain at 3x normal shard prices.

I remember when I started playing in 2001 that when you signed up for factions on a red you would go blue and it was a one time thing, and since reds are allowed in factions that option is no longer on the table.

What keeps you from parking your reds on a foreign shard and reroll the same chars on your home shard?
You already have the equipment. And training skills is extremely easy today or even stone them over to the new toons...
