..granted I've seen 1 or 2 people who have a ridiculous amount of accounts, that's their prerogative..the average player doesn't have a need for all that

Gold Farmers/Scripters/Bot Runner/BOD Runners run multiple accounts..I knew a guy who was running BODS in late 01 early 02 before I quit, running 94 Accounts there's a reason why Scripters aren't dealt with as fast as most of you would like..

The fantasy that this game is chock full o' people is just that.."a fantasy" enjoy the days,months or years it has left before they pull the plug or fire the last devs and stfu on such petty stuff it's a game..

The only thing your doing is wasting time, they "KNOW" people script,sell gold,farm resources 23 hours a day..if it made sense to ban them all on a business end of it..they'd be banned!

For those who don't think it's trackable you are QUITE wrong, one of my guildies was pulled to jail and asked to turn off his "3rd party program" he of course insisted he wasn't, while he sat in vent and said damn dude I didn't think it was trackable..I'm not talking speed hacks so it IS quite obvious it's trackable they either don't care or would like to continue working..so as he jokes about conspiracies and things like that, which we all know is 99% not true, and I'm positive it's not due to lack of care..what I am sure is, that if the banned everyone who uses certain script,speed hack and things like that it would be a massive hit to an already small community wether you'd notice it or not..

I do not like scripting because I think that other players scripting 24/7 or for many hours a day (a time I could never ever have handy to spend playing a game in my daily life...), perhaps even on more than an account whether to collect BODs or resources or else, devalues my casual time playing the game.

I mean, perhaps I "would like" doing BODs, just as an example, but because of other players doing BODs through scripting it makes no sense for me to spend my time in game to do BODs as the scripting reduces the value of whatever item obtained through scripting to a bottom level that I'd rather spend my time in the game collecting gold through hunting and buy from the scripters powder of fortification or whatever other BOD reward I may need. And the same logic, at least to my thinking, appllies to resources, library collectibles and in general anything that might be scriptable.

This means, that other players scripting to obtain items in the game make it for me not a viable option to invest my casual time in the game to get those items through those scriptable activities. I'd better get gold somehow in a different way and just buy those items. It is more efficient.

But this, reduces my enjoyment of Ultima Online as it makes many in game activities less then what I could enjoy with.

Gold selling is a similar problem at least for me. The more gold is sold in the game, it makes the gold I hunt for worth less because the offer of gold is abundant perhaps also due to occasional duping of gold. If gold is worth less, that means I need to spend more and more time playing the game to accumulate the gold I need to buy the items I need to play competitively OR, if I want to save up my real life time, I need to purchase gold with real money (which I do not want to do...). The rampant inflation because of the over abundance of gold in the game....

Personally, I'd rather much prefer to play an Ultima Online game where there was no scripting and no gold selling, I think my enjoyment of the game would be much, but much better.....

Its funny how some of you are complaining about the resale of Gold, Its been a part of the game since day 1. 15 years latter its still a part of the game. I know many returning players who have found it useful, as well as other items that can be bought from the same people. A returning player who had the best of kit 2-3 years ago, does not want to grind 6+ months to be able to get back into the game at the top end, with the best suits and enough gold not to have to worry about death/insurance.

These people are providing a service which many people use, If EA sold the gold/items these people would not have to resort to 3rd party sites where the gold/items were gained by Scripting/duping.

Its all about supply and demand just like the real world, just because a government make something illegal to own/use doesn't mean it cant be gotten. If there is a demand for it someone will sell you it.

That's the great thing about this game, it represents what people would do in real life in any given situation. I love this Sandbox experiment that we all call UO

Yep.

Pretty sure that the average UO vet has no problem at all with the fact that people buy and sell gold in UO and in every other game of its type on the market.
At least that is what I have seen from my experience and the majority of posters in this thread.

We get annoyed because its breaking the rules that has been part of UO from day 1.
Most of us have known the rules of UO by heart and one of the biggest has been no advertising of outside business's IN UO.
A good deal in the past of such have led to hacking of accounts, and loss of real money to boot.
Yes its in every mmo... the underside of human nature is basic greed...
They learn what's wanted in a game and exploit it.
The only way they make a go of it is the want to cut corners. not doing it the right way.

Seriously, you have no idea how mild it is in UO. Oh noes, a book on the ground. In WoW you'd get swarms of goldseller characters constantly marching to the bank and killing themselves so that their corpses would form the name of their website in giant letters. You'd get Chinese sweatshoppers messaging you every fifteen minutes trying to talk you into buying gold. And this was in almighty WoW with a billion dollars a year in revenue and the best GM staff of any MMO in the world.

Basically, you can learn to live with some goldselling spam or you can resign yourself to being unhappy with every MMO that exists. I mean, I'm telling you that for your own benefit. It's no skin off my nose if you guys come here and post "OMFG a goldseller spammed in chat today" and act outraged every few days, just don't be surprised when this kind of thing isn't wiped out, here or in any game on the market.

I wouldn't call it mild, I've played a number of first rate MMO's that didn't have the constant spam. In SWTOR I haven't seen a chat spam, or received one of the random spam in game Mails from one in a few months, in LOTRO it was extremely rare to even see a spammer. The difference between those games and UO... They aggressively enforce not allowing spammers. It is possible to reduce their presence in game, even if there isn't much to be done about them beyond that.

Galen atinycow is right I have seen this in wow myself... its super annoying and the Dev there does try to catch them and they do wipe the body's out but its crazy.

Long ago EA decided that they would not go after account sales and let players sell pixels on e bay... it took a few years before e bay took the hint and stopped the practice of sale of imaginary property.
Regardless of reason, company's make millions of dollars off game item sales.
The only way to get rid of them is to not buy the items...
That's a lot to ask of the gamer who has no idea of what they are getting into, much less supporting.

This is a valid point... but the problem here is SCRIPTING (specifically unattended scripting/botting). This is the real problem in UO and any other online game.

This by itself is NOT true. Gold, or any ingame good, that is acquired via normal, legal means; then given to another player, whether it's due to gold selling or simply handing a newbie a stack of 1,000,000 gold checks, has zero net effect on the economy or the value of any other player's gold.

Not "perhaps", but "also due to duping of gold as well as scripting/botting. The key point is that the gold selling has ZERO net effect on the economy. Cheating processes in order to obtain vastly more than what would normally be possible is and has always been the problem.

If gold is worth less, that means I need to spend more and more time playing the game to accumulate the gold I need to buy the items I need to play competitively OR, if I want to save up my real life time, I need to purchase gold with real money (which I do not want to do...). I'd rather play a UO where unattended scripting/botting, exploiting, and duping are dealt with HARSHLY and players are allowed to engage in the Free Market on a fair level. For example, for all of its other faults, Diablo 3's RMAH was NOT a fault, but a strength.

I believe from what I gather talking to the DEV's and such that they tried.... but they just keep buying more accounts shut one down and a new one is born and up and spamming within the hour.... seemed futile... so they quit.

I'm just finding it hard to believe that, the state the game is in at this point, it's even profitable for them.

Although when I think about it, it's not like they actually even pay sweatshop workers to farm the gold since it's so easy to automate anything in this game without being punished. So... nevermind.

I just wish they would add 'ultima' to the naming filter so that they at least couldn't appear to be 'official'. Some newer players are fooled into thinking they're buying from EA.

The only "stroke" or "outrage" over this I've seen is the folks trying to bash or belittle others for making clear and concise statements against those breaking the TOS. Someone hit a sore spot for bringing this up? Gold selling spammers in help chat is garbage & happens on Atlantic 24/7. Despite your(collectively) great efforts to sarcastically argue, the fact remains its against the rules and bothersome to most players who wouldn't use the service. Its also common knowledge it hurts ANY economy of ANY game (Economic 101) so please try to sell that bag of feces somewhere else.

One of the biggest dupers in this game (who is rumored to own one of these sites btw) got banned because someone reported him when he tried to sell a chest full of duped ornys (among other items). Its completely close-minded and disregards other players to say they shouldn't get involved when they see something illegal taking place. We're not ostriches, even if some of you like to act like one.

I have no clue how or even if its possible to stop this but it is illegal, annoying, and I also wish this was aggressively addressed by the GMs/Devs.

I didn't read this entire thread..... but why are some people so consumed with what other people do? There are many features available to you to ignore people who spam anything that you find to be annoying and/or offensive.

Log in.. kill mel... decorate your house.. chat with your friends... and log off. When you start fussing about every little flaw or annoyance this or any game could possibly have...... you should really start looking in to another hobby. Just saying.

Play yer game people. Have fun. Focus on your game and have fun with that. The time you spend fretting about another players actions is time taken away from your game.

Look... we all know that selling pixels for real life money is against the current terms of service for EA. If ya do not know this you just do not read the contracts ya sign.
