Ok .. I don't get this: Isn't this Illegal? Why is this being allowed?

A friend asked me to come to GL and see a LUNA Vendor which is selling in-game items/gold and runes advertising his ICQ and paypal. I took a few screen shots and compiled them all into the one Picture using Adobe Photo shop.

What is truely sad is that both of these statements are facts. EA DOES NOT GIVE A CRAP AS LONG AS THEY GET $$$$$$$$$$.

If all the cared about was getting $$ they would turn around and sell gold for .25 cents a mil..the fact is, they chose the lesser of two evils. This specific person may have 20 accounts all scripting resources/gold/items whatever, if it is banned they lose ~3000 annually. So if you think about it in a business sense it doesn't make much sense to ban this person and lose that amount of revenue to make the few it bothers happy, that's the sad reality. I just wish EA would open an item shop and sell the same things these guys sell. Instead of some of the community supporting a few 3rd party's they are supporting the game we play. Solely subscription based games are a dying breed, we are just along for the ride.

I'm even for the dev team coming up with expansions and new content and putting up a business plan/ideas and goals and put it up on kick starter and see if this "vocal" community can put its money where it's mouth is, it is 2013 not 1997 it's time we deal with the fact the game doesn't have as much pizazz it once did, and if we continue to play it and want 24/7 support and want them to actually care than we need to actually support it...you're asking for Skyrim type gameplay/support in a game developed and imagined in the PacMan era..

So what book guy did you beat? I still see the books on all the shards I play on and runes everywhere. These people are far from being on the ropes, a good businessman will always look for new ways to raise revenue. You may not like these people but they are doing a better job of promoting their business than EA are at promoting UO

Hi Dermott. My wife gave you a little workshop many years ago when you first started on LS. We fight this fight because these guys screw up the economy with their duped gold. This is how it's supposed to be: we self police with a little help from the GMs. And I have talked to a few GMs who are hot to help, but can't do a thing until we page. Page on book-droppers. Page on dupers. Page on frickin Plague. Page on the guys who buy this crap.

In a sandbox game you get the environment you deserve. Ask yourself what you deserve.

Well Galen, I was wrong about the vendor on GL. I had the wrong site. He was still there a few moments ago. I paged on him using the "other" entry where I explained the problem. Got an answer from the GM in under thirty seconds. I'll check to see if he's gone this evening when I get home.

Would certainly get more people to start paging in the least, yes. Just all I could really say in reply. Only so much one can do with players advertising. As long as they aren't spamming like crazy, I personally don't care about them anymore...

Except we can't do that here. What we have are vendors advertising through labeled runes in their inventory, not dropping books or runes on the ground, so all we can do is report them. What we need are GMs who actually follow through with those reports and do something about it.

The Plagues are getting waylaid and trapped by players and the books stop for days on most shards. It certainly has caused a big slow down. I have been gating Plagues and other robots to one tile traps via gates placed in front of them. It is fun. Then the books vanish for a long time.

Yes Winker. See the thread (link above) ' Book-liter-ads-spam-gone?" The books will appear on EVERY SHARD .. on certain days at certain hours but NOT every hour 23 hours a day as was happening on Sonoma. So a few of us and possibly more players bent over backwards to remove the books. So don't be discouraged.

Atlanta's Luna City is LITTERED with SHOP RUNES and VENDORS. IT's hillarious. I think there are four Plagues that seem to be standing in one spot forever trying to record vendors items and prices. There are so many vendors and so many shop runes stacked everywhere, LUNA LOOKS LIKE IT WAS ATTACKED BY A MACHINE GUN THAT SPEWS OUT RUNES. I think I could get rich selling runes to NPC Mages.

Real life calling. Must go. I do hope these two Threads encourage those players who would rid their shards of those books and vendors, to join the FORCE.

just seemed strange.
its a tram rule set, there are no killer spawning critters in luna town.
it just seemed strange to hide if you where not doing something you were afraid to be seen doing.

In all fairness, I am always hidden when I'm moving around, even in tram. Just something I am use to after spending a lot of my time in fel and being a PvP thief (one who steals from players, not fights).

UO gold is almost like a currency in theoretical way if you look in my lense of the past 13 years of playing UO. Back when I Started you could sell UO gold for like 50-60 dollars per million. I actually sold some of my excess stuff back in high school for a significant profit but the fact that people actually still spend their hard earned money on this game is incredible. The Cheating was terrible for this game for so many years and they DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. Any bannings that represent anything more than 10% of player base may END UO pretty much instantly. I dont us the program, and i just play the game but know that if people are still trying to sell virtual currency despite all the risks, it really is a good sign for a strong game.

Couple vendors like this I found on Atl. YES the GMs will remove them, just takes alil time. Physical harrassment then type in the vendors name. In the description give a brief detail what shard, town, and physical location of the vendor. It WILL be removed, atleast the ones Ive reported on Atl in the past all have.

As for the books.... the green bags we get from T-hunting.... I always thought those bags were for picking up books so its easier to throw them ALL in the trash at ONCE. Takes me abt 120secs to make a full run of all moongates then another 30-45secs to do a loop around Luna. THANKS UO for all the green bags.... I put them to good use

Even spoofing the books can be mistaken as doing it for real and if any correct player turned him in for dropping the books .............well he should know better.

We all know the outside money makers have dragged the game down... I would go so far as to state they meaning the companys hustling the game items to others in game have made the enviroment in UO harder for alot of younger and returning players. How can you compete with the glut of gold? Castles going for over a billion gold... suits and event items costing more then the whole gold that was in the game for the first 3 years of play....
I cant condone their spoiling of the game. Im sorry. Players who trade/sell between players gold and items is one thing, the bit is they are in the game paying and playing and not just a parasite working the game to make a living. There is a difference.
I knew when that first guy told EA way back in the beginning that he was goingto continue to make real money off their stupidity.. EA well...................... we all know that outcome.

HAHA .. Newbie players can do escorts in Haven and pick up books and sell them to the NPC Provisioners in any distant town and make the Gold Spammers chase around to buy books from Provisioners at 20 per NPC. lol

On a side note as far as I can tell the Plauges people were talking about are the script bots for the search site. I've never seen one drop a book for the gold site. I think they use a newbie ninja and stealth eventually, where Plague is a newbie Necromancer. So seems pointless and petty to interfere with the search one since they still preform a service for the community until the powers that be actually get around to doing a vendor search.

Obviously players are buying from these people or they wouldn't be so successful.

Meawhile .. the Vendor in Genesis Archives REMOVED HIS RUNES ADVERTISING HIS ICQ NAME AND NUMBER. WOW! Big achievement!

If I tried what they do, I would have been banned from the game a long time ago for infractions of the Rules of Conduct. haha

We need a search engine in the game. That's for sure. Or we need to get rid of LUNA CITY where the prices are so high and fixed .. I can't believe anyone who seriously plays UO can afford to buy anything they need. I can't even find spell scrolls above 5th level like MARK AND GATE for sale on Atlantic or GL - at least ones I can afford with my small pitance as a new player so my spell book isn't full yet. * will have to make my own scribe or I know there are decent players on all shards who would help me but I don't like asking. I prefer to find a way to do things myself to enjoy the feeling of accomplishment * :loser:

The barrels and crates in Despise are a good place to check for spell scrolls. You'll need about 50-60ish lockpicking to pick the locks. Unlock spell might work too, but I've never tried it. Also, there are a lot of low-level monsters that drop spell scrolls. You can find other options by going to the Advanced Search page for the Hunter's Guide on Stratics and putting the word "scroll" in the Loot field for your search parameter.
