The amount of side spawn at the ter-mer lava area make the things a pain to hunt
I hunt them with a Stealther/Mage by clearing the area left of the entrance to the lava area of side spawn and then draw the fire daemon over that way to kill it using EVs cast from far enough away that I can hide after the cast. If a fire daemon gets off the south edge of the cliff where an EV can't reach it but is still at the same height, cast Protection on your character and just go toe to toe with it using energy bolts. Occasionally they spawn in the grassy area reached by going left before going in the entrance which puts it in a group of lifestealers. There you just need to find the spot farthest from the lifestealers you can find while still able to cast an EV near the fire daemon and just take your lumps. Hunting them in the stone area to the right after going through the entrance from within the mob of side spawn that's normally there is a game of tag you will commonly lose but can be done.
If your character is human, use the JoaT to cast the Ninjitsu rat animal form on yourself for an extra 20 stealth if needed, before going back to the hunting spot. You can change back to human form so you can cast spells without revealing yourself. The gargoyles have an area heat attack which tends to reveal you and there are certain tiles in the rock area that will do the same. If your stealthing character starts showing damage numbers above it, move a tile or two. The claw drop rate was about 1 in five on Siege.
