I have been playing PvM for years now and while I do still really enjoy hunting and t-mapping and stuff I feel its time to relive some of the old, heart pumping, hands shaking, mind racing action of the past.

I bought a mythic token and I have done some training and worked out what I think is a decent template for the style of combat I want to undertake. I am going for an assassin type character, well not an assasin type... just an all out assasin, There are two reasons for this. One, I think its will be friendly for a PvP newb and a little more forgiving than other templates.

The main reason though is I love the sneaky, stalking, watch a mark for ages to pick your moment kill.

I have decided on the following template
Fencing 120
Tactics 90
Hiding 100
Stealth 100 (120 with items)
Poison 90
Ninja 120
Bushi 100 (will either boost with items or just leave at 100)

OK, so firstly. No resist! I have already decided that if i don't plug them fast i will either be poofing smoke and walking away (possibly crying at how rubbish i am) or eating dirt. (again, may be tears involved)

Secondly, only bushido and potions / animal forms for healing. this doesn't seem to be much of an issue... again, I am aiming to drop them fast so a drawn out fight isn't going to happen (unless they suck enough not to kill me but not enough to die to my initial attack)

So here is what I have done so far... with rather mixed results.

weps:
Kryss
20% SSI
45 % Hit lower defence
45 % Hit Lower attack
45% Hit fireball.
damage inc
Warfork
As above.

Armour is CRAP at the moment, holding out for pub 81 to make a suit. Running in Shame gear that gives stam, mana , hp and HCI/DCI , Jewels are hci/dci/ssi with enhance pots on one and mana inc and a few random mods to boot.

my first kill.

Recalled to fel fire dungeon. Popped llama form. walked to despise spawn, popped llama form back to human.

ok, so when I got here it was at lvl 1, there was a necro mage working the spawn, I did a perimiter check and looked for backup . None found. *cracks knuckles* ..................*Curses self for nearly blowing cover with large "crack" sound*

I followed the guy around for about 15 mins until he popped the spawn to mages. Here is where i decided I would make my move, he was dropping EV's then running withering and then healing up after. I had my fork on to knock that mage wep out of his hand and bleed him... I sneak close.... Ready my wep.... He moves! I shadow jump over and watch him get surrounded and begin to wither.
he is taking a lot of hits from spawn so his DCI wasn't all that so I go for the kryss. I infect for leathal, dump an AI then death strike. at this time he realises whats happening and runs. then a 40 damage death strike lands and leaves him eating the rat wee infested despise floor! Huzzah!

This was for me a text book kill! my heart was pounding and I felt awesome! my "dirty" tactics paid off and I was happy!

So feeling cocky I hop star room and head to yew gate!

things are a little different here. These guys are suited for PVP not PVM and there is no spawn to help. I watch, wait, watch the fighting, and single out the lil twerp thats not getting involved in the fighting but healing all his mates and dropping stone walls.

I ready my war fork, I disarm, Bleed, swap wep and get off an infect before he reacts, he cures my infect, I shiruken him back in the green. he begins to cast para. i run in, drop an AI, bleed and death strike! good bye healer blue!

Hello Pi$$ed of reds guys. lol.

I was eaten by 2 mages and a thrower! but it was still fun and they even left my potions / trap box since I managed to kill their support char without them noticing till he was dead.

My next three assasination attempts fail, not by a lot but I died twice and stealthed away once.

I am struggling with dexxers/throwers. my initial disarm/bleed/infect/AI generally goes well but I am finding that my death strike either isn't dropping them (still need to max out ninja/stealth for the 50 damage) or they are getting off a heal between my poison and then smashing me into the ground mouth first. also my AI's are lacking a lil punch due to lower tactics.

I am sure there are other configurations like adding in a third wep for Mortal perhaps , that may work better but I need a little help from the vets with tactics for dexxers with my assasin.
thanks for reading, I know some of it wan't all that relevant to the post but I wanted to share, what for me, was some great times on UO.

as for my suit, I am thinking I will go mana, stam, hit points with LMC for the base pieces but I have yet to decide on artifacts so that will make a big difference. Am thinking mace and shields but its kind of a waste of the HLD mod on them so may go folded steel or spirit of the titem and build around that. I will use that cloak that gives the stealth bonus and shrowd of the condemned, or possibly that silence robe that give +20 then add in a bad a$$ robe slot item.

suits will come shortly. I always spend a hell of a lot of time on the suits for my chars but I will decide on my artifacts first then build from there!

Thanks for reading. any suit tips also REALL appreciated.

Do you find a major benefit to having poisoning on this character?

I'm currently working on an assassin character as well and, although I have poisoning on another character to poison his weapons, haven't really considered adding it to the template. I don't know how confident I am yet with dropping healing or anatomy...

Yeah I am finding it to be great, the reason mainly is that if I am out and about I can poison on the go, also you can't use infectious strike without it LOL. Gives a chance to boost the level of the poison, allows you to inflict poisoning with fukiya and shiruken (excuse the spellings) and also you can poison food and leave it laying around for fun!

I do like the idea of using Infectious Strike, but I'm not sure if it will take the place of another move. I'll have to consider soulstoning off healing and anatomy and seeing how it works without it once the character is close to competition. My poisoning is currently at 80. Any reason that you picked 90 healing instead of taking it to GM or leaving it at 80 like a lot of people do?

I also just noticed you had Bushido. You find that offers a competitive edge? I haven't seen too many assassin templates that have Bushido.

Yeah, it helps in terms of confidence heals, also for the mana it takes LS can be handy... from time to time i get lucky and drop a crit. if not its almost a guarenteed hit. There are other uses also such as frreing up the ability to have a UBWS bok for fient / nerve strike can be good if I fancy a change but I mainly use it for healing.

Main reason I went for 90 is that there is a higher chance to increase the level of poison. also it gives the title Master assasin ;) another benefit to poisoning skill is healing.. its not much but parasitic poison heals back for the damage that it does.

150 str after pots
25hpi
90+stam/dex after suit, run ssi on weapons.
rest of stats cram into mana, should get a ton, like 130+ after your suit

run as close to 100 damage inc as you can to get your ai's closer to 35 off of your kryss, and bump your tactics to gm. there is a signicant damage increase when you hit GM tactics. You won't consistently get 35pt AIs, but you'll be closer if you have 150str after potion, 100tactics, and 100di.

then the usual, 40lmc, a chunk of MR. You may want to consider trying to get a bunch of hit point regen as well (cap is 18), since you will be healing while hidden or running most of the time and you will notice a boost in your confidence healing from bushido.

Ditch Hit Lower attack off of your weapons. With your setup, you won't ever notice its benefit really. Instead, fit in hci or dci to compensate for stats or skill on your jewels.

It might not be bad to run the mace and shields and 50HLD on your weapons, although the spirit of the totem would be fine, and since you get more hci there, opens up your jewels more. But running 50-80 hld would make it that much more likely that you would hit on your second swing without a disarm (such as deathstrike-disarm-dp)

Skill wise, i'd recommend:

Fencing 120
Tactics 100
Hiding 100
Stealth 100 (120 with items)
Poison 100
Ninja 120
Bushi 100 (will either boost with items or just leave at 100)

If you can. This would be 760 skill, so would need +40 skill bonus. Bushido can stay at 100, sicne you are only using it for confidence heals.

Weapon wise, you would need 20ssi and 30stam to swing kryss at max, or 5ssi and 60stam. Fork you need 20ssi and 90stam, or 35ssi and 60stam.

Kryss (max at 60stam)
50dmginc
5ssi
50lightning/fireball
50hit lower defense
15dci

Fork(max at 90stam) (if you had 5ssi on jewels/cape you could run 30ssi on fork and get max swing at 60stam)
23dmg
20ssi
50lightning/fireball
50hit lower defense
15dci

You could consider running 120 bushido, and dropping poison to 80 from my recommended skills for this. You could then get better confidence and make a use best weapon skill Bokuto for Nerve Strikes as well.

This wouldn't be the absolute best temp to run out there, but if you want to run in and try to assassinate someone, then sneak away, this is a good start.

Assassins are best played in teams. I would find a stealth archer to complement you. They don't have to be good. They don't even need to be scrolled out to 120s or have good gear.

Pick your target. Have him position himself to dismount, while you shadow jump as close as you can to him. You disarm, let him dismount after the disarm takes place. From there he can switch to composite for AI while you bleed/dp/ds.

2 mediocre assassins can take out anyone as long as you're well coordinated and know when to give up on a failed attempt on a mark.

After a while it becomes less about "can we kill him" and more about "can we kill him in under 3 seconds". Eventually you move up to picking a mark surrounded by a group and seeing if you can take them out before anyone helps.

It is great fun.

Awesome advice, thanks, will take the template advice. To be fair I have toyed around with Boks but I am trying to keep things "assassiny" not sure if thats even a word but I am commited now and a wooden sword doesn't scream assassin at me :) ! I can make up the stealth 120 with that expensive robe that gives +20. then could throw in some skill boost jewels and bingo, am thinking I am going to spend time making a reforged / enhanced woodland suit with either spirit of the totem / mace and shields or folded steel. I will crunch some numbers and see what I come up with but while I may be a PvP newb I am a competant suit builder (if only the same could be said for my spelling) so should be able to easily get my HCI / DCI without having to rely too heavily on jewels. I will post what I come up with in terms of the suit for you guys to critique.

@ Lynk - Firstly, Love your sig, makes me remember my first few months of playing!

Secondly I had not considered teaming up.... I only have a few "friends" on UO and bless em, they are a great bunch but they don't venture to fel often.

As I get out in the field more and more I am sure I will meet more people which will be cool, a co-ordinated attack on that level sounds fantastic! not to mention fun! I will try meet more sneaky people.

With regards to poisoning.... is it better to use the mana and infect or should I be using blowpipe and stars?

Also, has anyone had much success using darkglow? As this increases damage if the victim is more than 1 tile away, I will give it a try and see where I get. Thanks for the input so far.

Use infect strike, i don't think you can get lethal from darts/shurikens. the darts and stuff though are great for when chasing someone or poisoning their mount if they are. Could even toss'em here or there when doing DS and other specials.

I thought as much, Will work out some macro's or start using EC to hotbar them and then add a last target in there.

Thanks for creating this thread. I have just bought a Mythic Token for the same purpose. Although I forgot to pick ninja so I'll have to work that up.
Going to train poison up to 100 first then wait for pub 81 to hit for armour building.
Keep us updated on how you get on.

LOL! I've done exactly the same thing. I get a lot of lag but want to try some PvP. I don't think I'll be fast enough for a mage so going to make a ninja/assassin.

Some very helpful templates in this thread so far. What do people use suit wise?

No worries, I am going to drop poison to 80 to fin in the changes without compromising on the suit. here are the initial figures that I have worked out. not going to build until after pub 81 though as I will probs change my mind but the extra mod from woodland armour on the enhance makes it almost too good to resist making it.

Still got some number grinding to do but as an initial look at the pieces (done while at work) it seems like it would be a decent place to begin. will no doubt refine this or totally scrap it once i get home and my mind is working!

As for jewels I need to have my final stats in mind for dex and int ( need to know exactly what my mana / stamina with those stats before making jewels.) will decide on other pieces to the suit once crafted but I am pretty happy with the numbers so far.
