Questions from returning player

Hi all, I stopped playing about 5 years ago or so and felt like playing UO again but had a few questions:

1. I made a trial account and checked out a few servers, went to the Luna bank (that's the new Brit bank right?) on them and they were all super quiet. Europa had like 4 players there at 6pm gmt on a friday night - is there a new hangout spot?

2. How's pvp these days? as that's pretty much what I'm into. Are there any servers which are best? How's siege these days? Again, looked pretty quiet when I was wondering about with a trial acc yesterday! I don't know if I'm allowed to discuss them here but are the official servers dead for pvp? Would it better to go 'elsewhere'?

3. Is it still generally magers vs dexxers as the two main fighting speccs? I see you can be other races now, does that play a big part? Are there any new skills worth picking up or are the old school ones still best?

4. Any other important things I need to learn?!

5. Are ethereal mounts still the as valuable as before? I would say they were almost required as they were so incredibly useful. Just wanted to check something else hasn't come along to replace them for year accounts.

Welcome back but I can't answer any of your questions.


You will get a variety of answers and usually the most populated shard is Atlantic.

It be easier for me to make an origami out of plywood than answering about the PvP.

Europa exactly at that time had a crafters event at Btitain bank, It was the first night but will be back every nigh from now. Its a try to get back some of the Britain forge feel from the past and all dedicated smiths can take part when they like, Lien Ragus of RAA will be there every time. It was nice to just meet and chat with the community, and get nostalgic for a bit!

First of all, welcome back!
It seems that Europa used to be your home shard and since I play on Europa I will try to answer your questions.

A1. As was replied already, there was an event. Though Europa's population has been dwindling there still are quite a few players around. Unfortunately not as many as most of us would wish though.

A2. Zosimus answered correctly, Atlantic is pretty much the place to be nowadays. Not just for pvp, but it is by far the most populated (western) shard. On Europa there still is PvP, albeit slow. Some "oldschool" players have returned since some weeks, so we are hoping that PvP on Europa will pick up again.
Biggest hit for PvP was caused by faction changes a few patches ago. Many players left at that time.

Q3. Is it still generally magers vs dexxers as the two main fighting speccs? I see you can be other races now, does that play a big part? Are there any new skills worth picking up or are the old school ones still best?

A3. Mages, dexers, stealthers, gargoyles, humans... It's actually quite a mix atm. Some templates are naturally a bit overpowered, but you can't balance everything perfectly. The upcoming patch might change a few things in this though. Will it be better? We will have to see.

Q4. Any other important things I need to learn?!

A4. Depending on when you last played, there are surely quite a few things that you need to learn.
I came back around 2 years ago and have seen many changes in these 2 last years.

A5. Ethereals are still very useful. They have made some changes though.
-You can get a charger of the fallen, which can be used by any account age.
-Ethereal horses can now be used by 1 year old accounts.
