Came across this sandbox game Albion Online. Seems very similar to the old UO but different. I like the idea player generated buildings and such.

Sandbox Games reveals 'first true cross-platform MMO' Albion Online

By Jenna Pitcheron Mar 08, 2013 at 4:15am @PitcherJenna

Sandbox Games revealed its free-to-play massively multiplayer online game, Albion Online, the "first true cross-platform MMO."

The Berlin-based development company says Albion Online will feature cross platform play across Android, iOS, Linux, Mac and Windows PC.

With zero character classes, the game will feature a unique take on character customization. Players will be free to create whatever character they want without barriers: "Want to be a magician in a robe, in combination with sword and shield? No problem in Albion Online!"

In-game items — including buildings — will be user generated. These in-game items will be available to purchase from the player who created them via the game. Sandbox Games states that it will act as a "central bank, offering and exchanging currencies."

The game will feature territory-based PvP. Over 800 territories can be claimed and conquered by player guilds. Owning a territory will give those players access to more resources and silver.

Although each territory will be protected from raiders stealing resources and destroying buildings, starting wars between regions will be possible. Buildings of the losing side will then become property of the victors.

Sandbox Games is inviting gamers to like the Albion Online Facebook page in order to find out more about the upcoming Beta.

You think that's got good graphics? Oi... there is no hope. Anyway interesting but I'm thinking it won't last.

Probably going to be a nice niche game, but I think it will never be a big hit due to utter lack of marketing. I worked on a browser based MMO (Club Galactik) years ago, it was the best game in its genre graphics and feature wise, the players LOVED it (and paid well for it) but we couldn't attract enough people due to marketing fail, and we eventually went bankrupt.

Talk about like UO but not UO....check this out :)

I'm watching him live right now...check it out :)

So if this is true on the web page down below

This project will only be funded if at least $1,000,000 is pledged by Sunday Apr 7, 10:57am EDT.

and so far he has only recived by pledges...

1,508
Backers
$89,076
pledged of $1,000,000 goal

29
days to go

if he doesn;t get the pledges what is he going to do? Not like he doesn't have the cash to fund it himself.

Anyway, my original post was comparing Old UO and some of Albion Online features that seemed close to pre tram days. Not RG new game. That is being advertised up on top of Stratics already :)

Well I don't think it's a question of whether he can bankroll it. If he can't get 1 million in backing then that might be a pretty good indicator that there isn't enough interest in the game to justify making it. As for new games...there are just so many out there right now, I think it's actually hurting the games as the player population is too spread out, so unless you market the hell out of a game the best you're ever going to do is capture a small niche. *shrugs* Just my opinion.

There are too many games, but what can you do. It's really easy for individuals and small teams to make games now. It will only get easier. Luck and marketing and brand loyalty will just become more important.

Same with music and film as well.

The beauty of crowd funding is that you know you have an audience if you get funded.
