The secret chest to me, from a 1997 player's standpoint looks like nothing other than an ordinary elven or garg chest, heck, I see about 1 new elf/gargoyle container every day and i'm like 'cool', then i see the price for it, 500gp, and i'm like, awesome, then i see an ordinary looking elf/garg chest at 25mil and say, yeah right, haha

Since someone brought up a dead thread already, I lol'd at this post, although I use chrome which has a decent built in translator. Funny though how no dev here has ever thought to hop on this thread and reply to anyone.

BTW, a singing ball and a secret chest were given to all the Fairfax, VA 15th Anniversary Party/coronation of King Blackthorn attendees.

There was a statement made at that event, though, about the secret chests - that there was a potential security issue with them at the time so that it was not advisable to put anything of great value in them, and the reason why they were not on the US side of the store yet, was that security issue. My guess is that if the chest was in a public area, the exploit could be used to loot from it. Of course, for sharing things of not so great value (especially if inside an area already protected by access restrictions) their functionality outweighs the risk.

I was looking for a keystroke translation program that would convert my words(typeset) to kanji, romaji, harigana, or katakana. I'm not even certain which form is used on their shards tho I suspect kanji.

I have a friend who teaches Japanese and is willing to help me find such a program or put me in contact with someone that could create such a program but honestly.... Ive not told him its an online game and would be embarrassed to do so lol . Which is why I was wondering if anyone knew what written language is used on the Japanese servers. Thanks if anyone can answer

Don't quote me on this, but I think it will probably be kanji, or at least the bulk of typed speech will be. There are converters that convert the kana into kanji, the only hindrance will be whether there is one that works in concert with UO.

Thanks for help Claninwat. I thought kanji.... I'll let my friend know and see what we can come up with
I know UO had a translation server at one time so the basics of what may be needed for a program to run in concert with UO may already be in the code somewhere. Time to get busy & see

Well you can see the chest in the client files. They have a lot of stuff we don't have, but if half of the UO population is Japanese, it is fitting that they get things we don't.
