No Krinkle... just the opposite.
You see many leave after a short time due to the fact so many of us run around fully decked and power loaded they feel that perhaps UO is not the right game for a beginner... we know different but the new player might hang around if they could come up to snuff and at the very least have a sporting chance.... and 3 years for a ethy is a bit much these days... I can understand a new player or returning one who just saw how well they are and wants one... but dont have the time invested as we "older" vets do.
Its not like they will have full running knowlage of it all but.... if they do it right... they can join in and feel at home more readily.
I like the pack.. looks well thought out and I have to agree would be a nice pickup for off shard play for many of us older players too.

It does not matter what you give those looking for the quick 'fix', they will not be in the game for long. Those who wish to really play the game will spend their time in the game with what they have and learn from using things they see. Read Poo's post about his experience watching new people. They don't know the difference between a 'good' suit versus bad. They simply try to play and don't worry about acquiring things to keep up with the Jones'. Too much is made about the 'haves-and-have-nots'. Give them an in game guide for the basics and other players will be their guide after.

Other games aren't very good but they can get people to play them. Have you even wondered why? It isn't the awe-inspiring graphics or the cool gadgets their characters can get. It is the social experiences. You don't need an MMO for the graphics or items. You can get them from an offline game. For too long UO has concentrated on expanding the game and making things easy for people to play when they do not pay any attention to the social aspect of the game. How about better guild tools. As it stands why even be in a guild? You get very little from being in one. How about a reason to PVP other than simply supplying lambs to the slaughter. Factions never gave a reason to PVP other than a general point of contention. I think its about time to look to other games for ideas because the days of UO being the leader is far in the past. I'm not suggesting a UO theme-park. I just think that the Devs are in 'pleasing everyone mode' and then lose sight of things and end up doing the opposite of what they have intended.

I was looking at the "A very special War Hammer" and thinking about the changes to stamina reduction they're messing around with. More joking around than anything since you know, maces used to destroy items and stamina like nobody's business. But now they're adding double strike to the Maul, so who knows. Times they are a changin'.

With the exception of fencing, all my skills were trained up while doing sawn. Fencing I did in my home with a golem, but I figured doing swords the long way gave me a pass for the shortcut.

- 2. A Charger of the Fallen = Charger you can get off the store and is many players are happy to have one. There is tamers that will get any player a horse if they just ask. I would just give the player a pet bonding potion or the pet bonds to the player when he rides one.

+ 3. A loaded Runebook = not sure on the runes you will put in one book but good idea to help them.

/ 4. A very special War Hammer = worthless if they want to do fencing,swords, or mage but still cool.

+ 5. A very special Suit of Armor = still depends on class

+ 6. A bank check for 10,000gp = nice starting money

+ 7. A deed for a large Dragon Ship. = not bad either

+ 8. A full Magery Spell Book. = still needs a newbiefied reagent bag. a bag that only holds regs and monsters can't loot off. but players can if they in fel

hmmm....i read the spoiler as the various cities electing their own leaders...nothing more. Since player towns are not part of any other city, they elect their own leaders as they want to...monarch, mayor, council whatever. As I read it, why would Trinsic want anyone from, say, silvervale, sitting at their table making decisions on how their city is run? If you want to be elected in a city, nothing is stopping you though, just work up the loyalty.

There is a YouTube video of the 15th Anniversary Meeting where Mesanna outlines loosely what will happen with these elected leaders.

The table I am refering to is underneath the main throne room in Blackthorn's Castle. Each elected leader will sit at this table and have an audience with King Blackthorn and present the ideas their town has to either change the game or request an item for their town.

I'm just wondering why the Player Towns have been left out of this Council? I don't necessarily want to run myself.

Our Player Town is in Zento so I really wouldn't want to run in Trinsic were I so inclined.

The details are not all out yet so perhaps the Player Towns and other towns have really not been left out.

We shall see.

* Other NPC advisors such as Dupre
* NPC emissaries from Tokuno Emperor, Nujel'm Sultanate and and Gargoyle queen
* Representatives from other cities such as Cove, Haven, Serpent's Hold, either player or NPC

I strongly suspect they have some seats for more NPCs, otherwise it's all players vs. King Blackthorn on his own, extra NPCs can give nice arguments from their own perspective.

I dont understand how one person can be right so much... its like you been watching me. You did miss the part of how it took me forever to 120 taming and disco off daily gains and working on provo and imbuing now. I dont need everything right now like some people, I play this game for fun not to keep up with the jones.

I assume its just the first of 6 chars that get this help? Then there are still 5 left to train from scratch. You just have a chance to earn some gold with the first char before you go for it. Talking about gold, 10k is exellent. Doesnt spoil you , but you can afford some tithing and insurance.
Charger, runebook, spellbook and ship. Exellent!
Armour hopefully high resist and some dex for the warrior , resist and LRC for mage.
Char token.. never used one.. not bad.. some returning players should have good use for it. A totally new player... if they get this when they actually pay and not for trial they might know enough to pick the right skills.
I wont cheer this time before I see it, I did when I heard about the Haven Mine. It turned out to be a Despise dungeon replacement for ogre lords, not for new players. Still silghtly hopeful..

If I had a penny for every "newie" young player I have helped over the 15 years in the game I'd be driving a 2013 new car! I have done alot to keep young in the game and bring them as close to snuff as is humanly possible for UO standards. Yes there are some who are more needie and act helpless.. thats in all games and its thankfully few and far between in most cases. We have aged beyond the simple times my friends and many from this point in time are looking for a more advanced "in point" . This means perhaps the Dev's gift pack is well suited to bring the new to a fighting chance against the adventures UO has changed into. This is not Our UO anymore... We have changed... hey in 15 years havent you changed?
To survive you say we must change.... and change we are doing... This is but one small bit of that change. Its needed.

Take it from one who when UO started could out walk my kids and do things that now..... well as UO has evolved so have I ... Learn to enjoy the times.

After reading the thread http://stratics.com/community/threads/where-are-these-new-items-from.284368/page-2 that was brought back to life from Magrimur I got to thinking, lets go check out the UO Japan website.

You will find that these items listed above are yet another Japanese item as shown on this UO Japan webpage. Funny again how no dev stepped into tell us about this item, same as they refused to talk about the items in the thread i just mentioned above.

Few more interesting things about Japan:

• You can buy gametime codes from the Amazon Japan Wesbite.
• You can purchase game time from kiosks around Japan from Fami Port.
• We are still not allowed to see the Japan UO Store. (I will get through somehow)!
• That up until two years ago, Japan had a refer-a-friend program, and they claim it will be up again in the future.
• Japan has books dedicated to playing UO such as encyclopeadias, guides etc, that are advertised right on the UO Japan website!

These are just a few things. How come we do not get the same treatment as players halfway around the world? Hell, even their UO website has a clear warning NOT TO DO EXODUS AT THIS TIME. Us? No! How many places can we buy game time codes from? Well, officially, one.

Now I could really give two [insert word here] about a crystal ball of drunken men or what not, or a lockable secret chest. But I am sure I speak with the majority that we deserve the same amount of love as paying customers.

My crafter is a Marquis of Minoc,but not many at all on LS know me by my crafter,and I play very late and up to server down. Will my purchased title and venerated standing be for naught because someone that may be merely a "respected citizen" knows more people or perhaps have more alternate accounts that will allow them to vote for themselves,where I can not?

I'd assume its not really available on the US Amazon since the listing still shows Windows 98 as the operating system and you have to do a pretty specialized search to get that to pop up. Searching for "Ultima Online" does not bring it up in the search results. Also, there are no Game Time Cards for UO. Only Game Time Codes.

Sadly there is not much we can do abotu the multi accounts (except bar trial accounts from voting). However, it should be that ONLY Venerated people that have purchased the Duke/Duchess Title can be nominated.

Also bring back the old message boards we used to have at inn or put one at each voting area for nominees to leave sort of a pitch to the public.

It is amazing how well UO Japan is treated, but you must remember it is run by UO Japan who believes in CS first. IMHO if you looked at the subs I think you might find out Japan supports UO more than the USA. Anybody know how big thier DEV team is, ours is I think maybe 10 people total now including the producer. Don't have a full list of the 2012 Pointsetas.

I don't think we have all the information here. A mythic token is $24.99 at the store. A charger costs $9.99. It seems far fetched to believe they would give those away for just subcription fees. I assume this would be part of some new player pack that would probably run $29.99. Alternately, the token and charger might be bound to the account.

Was it the Armor of Initiation suit, Freja? If yes, it's from the New Player Starter kit that was very quietly rolled out in late summer 2010. I have heard of players on Siege having items from those kits. I distinctly recall one Siege thief being particularly annoyed over them back in spring of 2011!
