I remember when i first played like 13 years ago walking around picking reagents up off the ground because we needed them, how about for the newer players that would really love to imbue something but they have no way of getting that one crazy "reagent, essance, ingredient" have them spawn on the ground. Now i dont mean all over the freakin place but there is so many diff kinds if you had them spawn at a low rate they wouldnt hurt the other ways to obtain them, now on a shard like atlantic it might still be hard to get the amount you need in one day ( you could prolly buy them on atlantic)because so many people, but on other shards where its is hard to buy stuff like that it would help newer peole starting on those shards, flame it

This would be very popular with those of us who craft with the materials. Those who make their millions off gathering and selling the materials are going to go ape over this idea and come after you with torches and pitchforks. Find a hole in a well hidden place and pull it in after you. ;)

I do not think this is needed. Here is why:
You only need the special ingredient to imbue property intensities greater than 90% (see here Imbuing Ingredients Table). That measns you can imbue properties, whose max value is 15, up to 13 without special ingredients (this includes properties such as resists, HCI, & DCI) and up to 48 (for properties whose max is 50, HLL, HML, HSL, etc). Once you get into the last 10% of the property, you will requireseveral of that ingredient (up to 10 at 100% intensity). At a low spawn rate, you would need to to countless hours of trashpicking to get the quantity you need. This would be discouraging to anyone starting up, as they would not see any reward or feel any sense of accomplishment/victory. They would quickly move on to a game where you earn rewards for your effort. You can make great equipment without ever having to use a special ingredient. There are several low-mid level monsters which drop gems and items to unravel, to supply the player with ingredients to imbue their desired items.

Keep the ideas coming though.

At least we could get them without paying the fortunes that get charged for the materials from the thieves who get them as loot and charge the maximum they can get.

Sure they would see a reward and have a sense of accomplishment when they hold the item they wanted that required those materials. They searched and fought off aggressive monsters while searching and felt a reward as they found each material in turn until they had all they needed. They now have the item they wanted made and know it was something they worked for. And they did it without paying those huge amounts of gold they'd have to play weeks , at a dozen hours a week, that those thieving vendors charge. Now off to hunt and earn more skill on their way to their first GM skill. :)

There are several skill-based methods for obtaining these resources, which do not require +GM skills. The ingredients spawn in all levels of treasure maps, mining, lumberjacking, hunting in the revamped dungeons, working the lower tiers of the SA mini-champ spawns. Running around a sparsely populated overworld, hoping to find rare, random special ingredients (as was originally suggested) is not needed. Due to the low spawn on the overworld and the low chance to find the resources, it would take the player much longer to gain skill and gather the quantity he requires, than the systems which are already in place in the game.

I do not see why anyone would pay the amounts asked on vendors for these ingredients, when they can be easily obtained. The prices are well beyond inflated, but I do not fault the seller. A fool and his coin are easily parted.

When I was bored I would get on my necro and spawn the watchamacallit thingy to pick up reagents around Minoc and Vesper area. I never realized how much I would gather after a few days of this and I would be like wow sometimes. I get more than I would expect. Boredom sometimes paid off. With LRC though it didnt really have a purpose for me but always gave the regs to a person who did alchemy.
