UO Idea..."Double" Weekends

I had an idea to add some spice to UO... maybe for advertisement on other sites (kotaku, joystiq, etc.), maybe to bring back old players, maybe for new players, etc., etc.

Some games (i.e. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo) have promotions like "Double XP Weekends", whereby players get double the XP from the game (the idea is to have more people play on a given weekend, maybe boosting the game's online stats).

Could UO do this? I would think so, but I obviously am not familiar with the code running behind the game. Still, I think some of these options could be easy. Below are just some ideas, ranging from least affecting (and maybe more frequent) to most affecting (and maybe less frequent)...

  1. Double Gold Weekends - loot from MOBs, MiBs, treasure chests, etc. have twice the gold!
  2. Double Luck Weekends - whenever luck is calculated, the player's total is doubled!
  3. Double Loot Weekends - double the loot, double the intensities! (does not apply to new loot systems, has caps?)
  4. Double Resource Weekends - so in Fel, it would be like quadruple resources!
  5. Double Damage Weekends - pets, players, and MOBs do double damage. Calculated post all other calculations (PvP application, maybe not so much)
  6. Double Skill Gain Weekends - this is a special one, would happen far less frequently (once a year), but would be sweet! (SoTs are not doubled.)
Any other ideas?

While I am familiar with the idea, and remember how popular it was in DDO, I'm just not sure about this...double damage? That's a bit crazy. Double resources would be nice, gold...meh (there is enough gold in the world). Luck! *grins* I think that would definitely make some spots very busy. Skill gain - ooh..would this be like a 48 hour scroll of alacrity or limited to 0.2 gains instead of 0.1. Think I'll sit on the fence on this one.

Guildwars has one of those every weekend, which is nice.

I'd split it up a bit more into specific activities. And maybe not double the chance for everything but just increase it.

* Double loot from treasure chests
* Double loot from fishing
* Double arti dropchance from peerlees
* Double the odds of high end BOD gains
* Double doom arti chance/points
* 25% more points from cleanup
* Triple gold and zoogi on Solen creatures
* Triple the gems on crystal elementals
* +1500 luck when killing stuff in Shame

And on top of that I'd have deco-item-of-the-week which drops only during the weekend and is distributed similar to treasures of tokuno events one time, and as extra reward for handing in BODs the other time, etc.

CoX had these a couple of times a year... We used to jokingly call them Double Server Stress Tests as they were very popular. If UO's code can handle it, they'd be popular with the existing playerbase, I'm not sure how many players they'd bring back.

The double resources etc are usually pretty popular ideas on browser games, don't see why it wouldn't work on UO other than the coding is as old as the dead sea scrolls.

Maybe half price weekends for NPC vendors. It might be a good time to pick up some regs, bottles and stuff.

I'm liking these ideas...... save double damage.... though if it didn't apply to PvP it might be ok. Though my pet doing double damage might be pretty cool.

Thinking if that all applied as well to the casino as well that might be fun.

Would be cool too if my cannon did double damage.

Would be nice as well if you got better chances some weekends at getting good quests from the fishing quest system and even better odds at getting good BoDs from the vendors. Some kind of Double your Chances type weekend that puts a 2x greater chance of getting better rewards for those things.

Also I'd like a 2x greater chance of getting special fish on double luck weekends think that should apply to fishing as well.

But.......................
this would have to be a on/off switch thing where it would be easy for they to toss the switch on friday and off monday ... question is.............. if the code will allow it. You see those other games were written with newer code and its compatable .... while ours is a mishmash of old and new.... and that war it has is epic. Could you imagine the dev toss the switch on friday night as they all leave the office for the weekend and something goes wrong.................. that 48 hours could turn out to be disaster in a heartbeat.
But I leave it up to the gods of UO..... one does not covet their place in history....

Hehe, can you imagine hitting a tree and it just takes this massive log dump in your backpack.. BOOM, OVERWEIGHT in one hit. That'd be funny. I like concept. Would every weekend be like this? If not I propose it be the 3rd weekend of every month.. Just cause.
