remove traps skill issues

Before i start and 400 people post up how useless remove traps is because you can use telekenesis, please don't bother because i play on siege and telekenesis doesnt work on chests there.

Now for the issue at hand. It seem that if i am hiding and i use remove traps (at 100 skill with no gloves on mind you), it reveals me from hiding. I don't get it. Why the heck would they have a skill that you are pretty much supposed to use in dungeons and t-map hunting (on siege of course), that reveals you to the entire mob of monsters that is always everywhere in dungeons? This makes it a basically useless skill, even here on siege.

Except its worse on siege, because you cant use telekenesis either, so you basically might as well walk up to the chest and just open it and take the damage, especially since you'll be revealed either way. I cant make any sense of why this would reveal you from hiding as that basically ruins the skill, and any reason to try to make a toon that stealths around dungeons.

Comments? what am i missing here? Even wierder is, when i search the 'net for this, many articles talk about how wonderful remove traps is because it doesnt reveal you from hiding which is a total crock, because it reveals you every single time (i have 100 hiding and 120 stealthing). So i'm guessing they are older articles, and the devs at some point released a patch that changed remove traps to make it reveal you for god knows what reason.

<end rant>

Just another penalty for an underpowered and already rarely used skill. Although I use this skill often for my lockpickers, I cannot remember, if it revealed in the past.
I agree, it should not (and I think it did not unless you failed).

exactly, they should have made a difference in when you use the skill.
if you use it to remove a faction trap you get revealed, if you use it to remove a trap from a chest then no reveal.

The faction system includes floor traps of several types that can be placed within faction strongholds or towns. These traps only last for a limited time, are only visible with the use of the Detect Hidden skill, and can sometimes be a fair nuisance to members of enemy factions, depending on how and where they've been arranged. Being able to remove those traps that your enemy may have placed in a location that you wish to safely traverse without the risk of revealing yourself during the removal process would eliminate much of the challenge and sometimes the team work that goes with playing a faction trap remover. The skill becomes even more challenging to use because the timer that applies to using the Disarm/Remove Trap skill also applies to using the Hiding, Tracking, and Detect Hidden skills, i.e., you can't use Tracking to see if anyone is around and then, spotting no one, immediately try to remove a trap (revealing yourself in the process) and then immediately hide after doing so, in hopes that no one noticed your orange name pop up and have come to investigate and maybe collect themselves some silver and kill points. :)
That's what I suspected. Ruin remove traps for 99% of its actual purpose (removing traps from chests), so that factions has a limited usage of the skill. Bah.

I guess it's all in your mindset. Don't know what else to say. It's not like you're able to stay hidden using Telekinesis spell either and just walking up and taking the damage might also reveal you. So I'm not sure what the real difference is with all those methods
I'll tell you the real difference between those methods.

1) Remove traps requires an investment of 100 skill points, whereas walking up and just taking the blast doesnt require any skill points. big difference to templates, so why bother using remove traps at all when you can fit something else in, and either way you get exposed from hiding?
2) you cant use telekenesis on siege, so your options are take the blast or use remove traps. both of those options basically result in the same effect (a disabled trap, and you in plain sight) so again, why bother even using disarm traps?

It seems like this skill was seriously nerfed for only 1 specific purpose (factions), making it utterly useless to anyone, and even worse on siege where its sorely needed due to the inability to telekenesis traps away.

Although i think you should not be revealed - the bigger problem to me(which is why i stoned the skill for ever) is the high failure rate. It should be like 95% at GM instead it is like 5 % success on exodous boxes.

It's more than 100 Skill points to invest, since you have to have 50 Detect hidden to even start training Remove Traps.

Its funny... no other skill takes 150 skill points to max. That req seriously needs to be removed. It needed to be removed the day it was implemented. And the fact that remove trap still unhides you is stupid.

People are saying its because of PVP but its not. Remove trap was introduced BEFORE faction traps, and it always unhid you. Its just never been even glanced at since its addition in 99.

One of several skills 15 years overdue for even a minor rehaul.
