What you'll need for this:
* A boat parked next to Sea Market. You'll burn ALOT of traps.
* Loose change in your bank account, to buy traps with. Not cheques.
* A bonded Blue Beetle.
* The bait, if you can somehow get it, and the Fisherman's Suit.
* Bonded packhorses, but only for Shame, Doom and Ice
I've already talked about Fishing For The Void Lobster here, and some of the others are simple overworld catches; The Void Crab can be fished from the safety of the Fishing Village in North Ter Mur, and the Stone Crab from a boat off Papua.
The rest of the crabs, and the Lobsters are in rough places, but a few can be tackled quite easily. These are Shame, Ice and Doom, because you can mark and recall to the required spots. For these, firstly move the spawn from the following points and you can fish in peace;
In Ice Dungeon, for the Rare Blue Crab, fish around the lake and the small bridge on the south-west side of the map. Lure the spawn to the far west, towards the other lake. This crab will come quite easily, and the bait drops often from the quests.
In Shame, the entrance to the second floor is famous for a quiet spot o'fishing. Lay traps all along both sides of the river, and both sides of the bridge. Occasionally Mud Elementals might flag to you on the southern side, I just lure them down to the dungeon altar and leave them there. This Blood Lobster is a Legendary, and so without bait which I never got will take thousands of traps to catch... I have not done so yet, but as it's such a quiet spot, I left this to last so I could fish whilst writing these up!
In Doom, it looks more deadly than it is; go to the beach where you sacrifice the golden skulls, and move the spawn to the first open rooms to the left and right, leaving none on the corridors. Then you can fish the entire beach in peace. Occasionally the chaps in the robes and the vampire bats may respawn, they're easy to kill but much easier to move away, because...
Once the spawn has gone, you can load a single pack horse with 320 lobster traps, and bringing 2 more empty for the resulting crabs, recall back with the load and stay there until boredom, or lobster blessings strike! One small tip, put the horses by the water and stand in front of them, so if someone passing by drags spawn back, or there's a small respawn, they'll target you and not your precious cargo carriers.
You'll be at it quite some time for a Legendary remember, so make sure you've got a boat parked next to Sea Market, to purchase more traps and unload the crabs you've caught in the meantime. Remember, you can have as many boats as characters on your account, so if you want to increase efficiency, you can have the fisherman's ship sailing to deliver fish, and a spare parked at the Market instead... make those crabs do some of the work for you!
And whilst typing this up, I finally caught the Blood Lobster in Shame... Whoo hoo!
A little tip, it's a good sign if you can't unload a trap, it means there's something in there too large to put into your pack; mostly it's one too many of the normal crabs, but if there's a few stone spare and it's not emptying all the same... something heavier than 10 stones awaits! This fellow took about 2000 traps I think to catch.
There are two remaining spots that will prove a pain to trap however. I wanted to go into more detail for these, as neither can be recalled into, marked, nor can pack animals be summoned via the Summoning Ball to your location.
The first is Terathan Keep.
This one is a nightmare because first you have to survive getting in there; You'll need a rune to the outside entrance, then to run down and through enormous waves of casting Ophidian spawn. Beware, they adore throwing Paralyse and Poison, so make sure to have trapped boxes and plenty of bandages or self healing macros set up.
You will also want to be carrying your own traps; the target here is the Stone Crab, which is fortunately merely Rare. Thus we want our bonded Beetle, but not an overloaded one due to stamina and the risk of an Ophidian Mage weakening you further. Around 100 may be enough to catch it, even less if you have the Suit and the plentiful bait.
However, if you're simultaneously after the Dungeon Pike, that is a Legendary fish, and you'll need to adapt slightly; lobster traps "fish out" the spot you're on, so you'll need a part of our target zone left clear of traps for your fishing. And you'll need to cut up or otherwise dispose of the Dungeon Fish you'll pull as well; again to re-iterate, you dont want to risk being caught overweight here.
(And in the meantime, as I write this up, I've also just got only my third 120 Fishing Scroll from a 6 line, 120 point delivery... tis a good day to be a fisherman!)
Setting, up this is the area we're aiming for, and just how far away you need to shove the spawn;
Notice you can't bring pets via summoning in, and that the mobs have been led off the bridge to the west and off screen to the path to the east.... the Ophidians have a HUGE aggro radius, mobs on the island can can see you from the northern part of the river there for instance. What's worse, and the reason I took a while to write this one up, although I caught the Dungeon Pike as one of the earliest Legendaries, I wasn't sure yet at that point how the mob mechanics worked... I've been back since to check no one else was around killing the mobs, and I can confirm now that at least two spots, the northern and southern parts of this beach respawn a large mob of Ophidians randomly.... grr.
Lobster traps, and fishing casting both have to be done on foot. I would recommend then leaving your beetle where I'm stood above perhaps, and keeping it Invisible. If you're just trapping, mounting it after placing the traps would be even better; you can pull in traps (but not empty them) whilst mounted, and we're not after a particularly hard crab here... if anything turns up, abandon the traps and run or fight; snakes don't tend to come alone, and we can always bring more traps back!
If you're after the Dungeon Pike too, I'd recommend leaving one or two spots to the south rather than the north; again the risk of something wandering onto the island is quite high, due to there being a long thin bridge which funnels them back towards you in their off screen wanderings; fishing to the north means being stood there a while and risking aggravating one, but none can see you at the south.
Much less dangerous, but likely to be very slow to catch our target is The Underworld. Unless I'm mistaken, I'd say the easiest place to lay traps is here, on the bridge to the Goblin's lair;
But as you can see, you can't get many down, and we're after the Legendary Tunnel Crab here, so we're going to need a few thousand tries! As before, you can't bring pack horses in via Summoning... it's possible however to get them physically past the Rot Worms, which are the only dangers between you and this bridge, but you need to lure the Goblins away and to the right first before you can risk fishing here. Go mounted first, pass the secret door and the Rotworms and move the goblins; recall out, go back and pick up the Rotworms and move them all south again away from the Secret Door. Recall out a third time, pick up your pack animals, and move them through the Rotworm room and out the teleport to the north, then stand them in the paved room to the left of the Bridge, where the Goblins don't spawn.
I've not fully sat and gone for this fellow yet... he's the very LAST catch I need to make! ... so I can't say yet if the Goblins interfere too much. My thinking is that people passing by on their way to Navrey will take them further away, but if they get too far away they risk respawning near the Bridge... We'll see, I'm settling in to catch this fellow now! This is the best pattern I've found so far for traps;
The only other place I scouted that might be possible to trap was the beach opposite the small island surrounded by Kraken. It may be possible to pull the Kraken off to the far left, but their potential danger I think makes it impractical. The other bridge, towards the Experimental Rooms has fencing all around it which breaks line of sight to the water and makes placing and retrieving traps too frustrating to pursue. So I think this is the spot you need. Ride a beetle here, or bring the horsies manually and crab, crab away! It's been a good evening for rewards so far (although a second 120 pointer since turned into 100 Black Marlin bait, grrr) so I'm off to experiment there further... Hopefully this information helps you all get your own Legendary catches too!
