Based on the Twitter posts I did not have the impression there was something special going on. Remember that Cal used to visit Tokyo periodically as well. There are many UO players in Japan and thus the team there is quite-likely important to the game at large. The important branch office surely has to be visited periodically.

A pair of people who are slightly involved with the game travel to Japan, who cares? Bonnie once in a while speaks to us players and Jeff says nothing at all. Follow a twitter feed but say nothing on the default forum, never update the website, add stuff that isn't needed and break stuff while not understanding the dynamics of the game. Gee thanks guys.

Kelmo, even you have managed to spam out 14K random postings since 2008. If there was some more communication from the team as to what it was that they are doing I'd be more inclined to believe that this game was a passion and not a paycheque but this doesn't seem to be the case. Yes there have been some great additions to the game in the last year but there have been some equally horrible mistakes that, IMO, just should have not happened and those mistakes leave a greater impact than the wonderful enhancements.
I really don't know what Jeff does save for playing video games and tweeting his latest pixel winnings.

*chuckles* OK . We will just have to disagree as to the level of involvement. As for my postings... that is about the extent of my involvement. I expect Bonnie's influence and "involvement" is much more extensive than posting on Stratics or any other fan site. *tips hat* have a fine day Picus where ever you are.
you can watch til about 1:45 and that's "pretty much what I do". If you got 35 and a half minutes or so watch the rest of it, all kinds of tasty gems in there.

i for one feel the latest team have been quite pro-active with the player base and giving attention to the game. factions, pvp and fel content could use some refreshening but i believe at least factions is on the to do list so...

If you only knew... I've been fortunate enough to go to Mythic Studios and visit. Let me give you some insight on Mesanna....
- She is the one that pushed for the EM program to come back and provides solo support for it.
- She's the one that goes and removed OSI Houses reported to her, not a GM or another Dev, she does it.
- She's the producer for the title now, she is bombarded with negotiating and reports to and with Corporate, and any PR opportunities that arise such as interviews for News sites, and fan sites.
- She regularly stays up to ungodly hours supporting our EM's, and still shows up to work in the morning, I swear she doesn't sleep but 3-4 hours a day.
- She gets regular reports from people there who check this and other fan sites for reports of issues, and bugs, when I visited she was reported to at least every hour about something.
Its kind of funny that people would actually think that someone would choose to..... go get their laptop,find a hotspot,log into stratics,wait for it to load,than post a new thread...... INSTEAD of hittin up their phone and using twitter( all of about 20-30 seconds) to keep in touch with their playerbase that isn`t stuck in the commodore 64 era.
Its a FB/Twitter world,why keep resisiting the change and thinking this site is more important than another which has a HUGE following. For cripes sake,even if you don`t have a smart phone or whatever.... you do have a PC or ya wouldn`t be posting here..... knowing that, you can always link twitter to your homepage that your ISP provides.

They get used for official info/announcements but for just general banter I think its nice that one can follow someone like Jeff just so you can feel a lil more connected to the game. I've read Jeff's feed (it's the only one I have linked to on my phone and I sometimes look at it when I am at the gym after work) but the amount of stuff that relates to UO directly is limited at best, often useless and filled with refrences to other games and his time spent on them. Why would I do that when stratics provides a heck of a lot more game information and has people here that I can annoy?

I'd just like to make this 100% clear right up front.... Note along the TOP of the video that this is from almost a FULL YEAR ago..... WTF have they done since??????? Has much of what he spoke about come to pass??? Do you see any improvement in communications????? How about changes that address cheating???? Scripting?????

Mesanna made a post about things she wanted to get done.... she's done quite a bit of that list.... now I'll say Pub 80 wasn't exactly the big Bug push I think she had planned..... but she's done many thing she said she would do.....
That said she needs to make another post saying what she plans to do for the new year..... now that we are beyond her big bug push ..... perhaps she's planning another who knows.... we'd sure like to know.
A letter is needed or a video.... something.
As for Jeff and his Tweets I don't Tweet, twitter, facebook or any of that BS..... if he's at all serious about communication or if Mesanna is at all serious about communication then FIX the HERALD... Because THAT is where we should be seeing things.

Ummm, pretty much made a whole new ultima game.
This is not UO at all and adds nothing to the value of the game that I play.
I can't believe I missed reading this before. Oh well, they didn't know what the **** they were doing before why would they start now.
They ran factions straight into the ground, so what other choice do they have left?
I wont be playing chaos / order. If they run the system anything like they did factions, it'll be dead in a couple weeks.
Jeff is the Ultimate Franchise Producer. He is over all Ultima.
Mesanna is the UO producer so that is who all UO players should be more focused and concerned about.
The Twitter and Facebook QQ'ing gets old. With todays faster paced world and technology those are so much simplier to use to get messages out faster these days. I really don't understand why some would just want to hold back UO even more if they choose no to use the other options of social media. Nonsense. The world isn't notably faster than it was a few years ago, pre FB and pre Twitter. Nor are forums particularly hard to use.
Using forums in no way holds UO back. As a paying customer, I don't think it too much to ask that they use the official methods of communications (I.E. these forums and UOHerald) rather than forcing me to chase them all over the 'net and sift through personal communications in hopes of being tossed a bone.

Twitter and FB are just perfect forms for when you do not really want to talk but simply pass along a limited short burst of information which is all we have got in the last 5 years.
There were 2 of them when GL's was down...... I found that interesting.
I have to agree with Picus...... this don't have diddly squat to do with UO ....... and Honestly I could care less about it. I play UO... that's it. If I wanted some other game that wasn't UO then I'd be playing it..... and I wouldn't be in here wondering just WTH is going on with THIS game.
And honestly what I REALLY want to here is what they plan to do with UO. Where are we going in the future???????? Do we have a Future?????? What's around the corner????? When is the next publish and what's in it????? When will we be getting that High Rez Update?????? What ever happened to bringing back MyUO?????

Yes I'm well aware of that. I was simply pointing out that the UO team have probably been busy helping out with Ultima Forever and maybe UO has not been top priority due to this. Just my thoughts.
I have eagerly been awaiting the high res artwork for ages. This is number 1 or 2 or my UO wishlist along with vendor search. Do we have a future? Tough call, as long as everyone keeps paying the subs, then sure. As long as the game is turning a profit I think it will be safe.
Did anyone else notice that with the new updated uo.com any old links to stories and publish notes from before no longer work.

Some people are just thick headed and immune to common sense. Squeeling about twitter and the likes....as if ANY official news is passed only (if at all) thru them. I don't necessarily have a problem with the ultima franchise producer twitting or facebooking (I love facebook), or even that they are enjoying some new video game(s), or whatever tickles their fancy. This is their job, and they should and do have a life outside it. I may have dabbled in some manner of bickering about a thing or 2 regarding a thing or 2 about certain comments made in a certain video mentioned in this thread. I'll agree nabbing stuff off a twitter feed that does not pertain to this game and posting them on this forum and trying to equate this guy having a life outside Ultima as a bad thing is getting old.
Not that at all.... Its trying to say that because he tweets on Twitter that he's supposedly "communicating" with us about UO that I have a problem with. I don't care WTF he tweets or doesn't tweet on his Twitter or what anyone does on Facebook....
What concerns me is the lack of things posted to the Herald, to Stratics and everywhere else about what's going on or might be coming up...
The lack of communication is irritational, unprofessional and downright bad. How are we supposed to stay interested and continue to want to fork over our hard earned money on supporting a game when we have no idea what's going on??? We get little to no communication... little to no customer service ..... and very little updates.... so about the only thing keeping us here is community.... and the hope that things are going to improve..... but without communication that hope wanes very quickly.
I don't parcticually like twitter or facebook, but I don't see a problem with them using it. The problem is they don't really communicate about major issues very well at all, via twitter, facebook or their own website.

That guy in the middle is Naoki Yoshida; who has taken on quite possibly the most sinister task ever in MMORPG history; rebuilding Final Fantasy XIV from the ground up basically. I followed the game for a while, and played XI for a long time but I could tell from early stages and even just pictures XIV was doomed to fail.. I've looked in with interest to see how the relaunch was going and it took nothing short of scrapping the whole original team and putting this mad man (I say this in the most admiring way possible! Yoshi FTW) at the helm.
I can say I hated the single player games Final Fantasy 12 and 13, even the DS Final Fantasy Tactics, but Yoshi seems pretty clued in to what people are looking for. I hope Mr. Skalski and Mrs. Armstrong got to trade plenty of tasty tales.

I follow Jeff on twitter and to be honest i thought he no longer worked on ultima since he hardly tweets about it....always about some other nintendo games which is cool if thats what he likes..
It's always possible he's nabbing ideas from newer stuff out there. Richard Garriots' Ultima stuff was a mish mash of ideas he got from everything "I thought was cool at the time" in his words. I can find that snippet somewhere, but I'm sure we've all read or watched that. Could be that Jeff may need some creative influences from stuff that's out now to supply him with things he'd like to see in the game. Not that a glance into the forums for this game wouldn't help. He is the ultima franchise producer though not just the Ultima Online producer Mesanna is what we got in that regard.
Chiefly my concern is they remake Ultima 4 and just toss on the multiplayer concept and that's what we get. Or even rebooting the whole thing is not my idea of "moving forward". How'd you come behind a franchise as tasty and heartfelt as ultima and make something bearing Ultima : part whatever we'd call it, I have no idea; but 8 and 9 were bad. I did play 9, both about a year or 2 after it came out, and when it came packaged with one of the ultima anniversary disc things. Both times, it was a buggy expedition into the inner bowls of frustration. I never beat 9. I played Planescape Torment (I didn't it like it as much as 90% of the people that played it) and thought that was infinitely better; as well as other games floating around at the time; even replayed things like some final fantasy games that were out and while the dialogue gets butchered in translation were far more enjoyable for me.

And I'm VERY glad to have not only a letter from Mesanna now posted to the Herald but a absolutely awesome Ask and Answer as well.
That is what I was talking about communication.... glad to have it back. And a big HIGH FIVE to all the DEV's who are posting and answering questions.
