NPC Equipment Template Discussion

In a game where items now play a huge roll in a characters skill/power level, I thought it would be an interesting discussion of what PvE templates would work the best if you had to be naked ... or at least wear/use NPC vendor sold items only.

The first obvious choice is some kind of Taming build as your pet does all the fighting so your personal stats are not as important. I personally have never played one, so maybe others can elaborate more on this.

Second build that jumped out is Bard build as you generally have monsters kill each other, again not relying on personal stats as much. At GM levels I have been pretty successful testing this using store bought lute, wearing only a robe, and primarily focus on melee monsters to kill.

Archery also seems to be a good warrior build. With Chivalry(EoO), Bushido(Honor), and Anatomy(50%) you get a lot of bonus damage that doesn't require any special items. Keeping your distance is a good thing to keep health up. GM Resist skill will bump your overalls to 40 as cheap armor normally would put you in the 20's.

I started thinking about all this while deciding on which character I wanted to do on Siege. My though was, at least to start, the more powerful I can be not needing special gear which I'm bound to loose at some point is the way to go. Anyone else have suggestions/comments?

I went Mystic on Siege to start with (originally I went Tradesmen, but since added soulstones and fighting skills) So now its more Mystic/Bard. Alot to be said about a 120 Mystic with Discord and Provocation......... OR.... Ignore provocation and grab Spellweaving. Weaver/Mystic discorder = awesomeness. With Weaver your pet can have %10 more HP and be harder to dispell(not to mention extra help in heals with gift of renewal and damage with word of death),than discord is just a no brainer added to such a pet like an RC.

Focus, Meditation, Mystic, Spell Weaving, Musicianship, Discord..... that's 720 (6x120).

No regs, no armor and can kill most things in the game.

Stealth is good for survivability, hiding breaks targets and the stealth gets you away. Can put that on pretty much any template and survive a lot. I had a thief run around for many years in only NPC clothes. No armour. Could still run round Doom and survive, in fact I did think about making her a stealth bard to combine the two. My stealth tamer really has to screw up before she dies. My disco/voke bard tamer survives well too. Another template I messed around with was taming with necro, magery and enough spellweaving for gift of life/renewal. She made a lot of mess at champs if I let her out with a GD, and her suit was rubbish :D

Actually, all my characters have gear that's years old so I'm probably worse equipped than the NPCs!

I can't remember my partner's old templates but he used to run around with some crazy skills and very little armour. Half the shard kept telling him to get dressed lol.

I miss half naked mages. All the naturists in UO just went extinct. Or froze over winter...

I thought Mystic needed regs? Been gone a bit so maybe something changed?

It's easy to get fairly high end stuff on siege. The difference between a pretty good suit and a mondo perfect suit are really not that much different in pvm. Just might need a few more people.

But as to your question anything other than melee is probably fine. A disco tamer/mystic would be just as effective with crap armor as with perfect armor. Disco GD all kill or Disco Rising colossus, and boom.

Yes Mystic uses regs but with Shame/wrong/Covetous lewt,an lrc suit can be assembled almost by accident. I`d say an absolute no clothes no regs build would have to be an archer ,but it wouldn`t end up being a very good one.

*edit*
I guess a tamer could be a nekkid char too but.... why :p

That's pretty much true of a tamer too. If you're out hunting anywhere even modestly dangerous, and your pet goes down... you're pretty much screwed. The only reason I wear armor on mine is for the luck. A quick invis saves my bacon far more often that armor ever could.

I have luck an lrc/lmc on my tamer, so I can spam gheal to conserve bandages when I don't absolutely need them. But neither are a necessity.

Someday I'll have an Imbuer up to the levels where I can try that... back before I took my break, such a suit would have been impossibly expensive and rare.

What with the relic output of the revamped dungeon loot if you have a 120 imbuer you can have any suit you want pretty cheaply. I think the most annoying part of imbuing on siege is the fact that regular gems you buy from npcs are so dang expensive.

Miner's can't dig them up like the can on regular shards? (After reading a book from Ter Mur.)

Yeah, they can, but when you need like 5-10 per property on a 6 part suit (with at least 2 mods per) plus jewelry and weapons... and on siege generally you try to have 1 or 2 spare suits on hand... it really adds up. I tried getting it from monsters or mining but it was just too much if you want to sell them or make them regularly.

Hello

I dont wear armour. Fave few templates are / were :

Ninja
Equipment - Fencing slayer weapons + Blessed polar bear hat (maybe a couple of K on any shard) + blessed clothing

110 Fencing
110 ninjitsu
105 Chivlary
100 resist spells
100 meditation
100 hiding
75 stealth

Before a fight, Enemy of One, then Cat Form, then chink away and kill stuff. Managed too kill a bane guards solo back in 2011. Need more stealth, thats what Rat Form is for.

Arcanist
Equipment - Blessed burglars bandanna (again super cheap item at best of times)

110 Stealing
90 snooping
120 Ninjitsu
120 Arcanism
100 hiding
70 stealth
90 Meditation

Went into every dungeon, always had something too do in UO, the Dryads allure, Pixies, and Midgie swarms are your friends.

Provo Tamer
Equipment - Slayer instruments

110 music
110 peace
110 provoke
105 taming
90 animal lore
90 veterinary
80 Chivalry
- Rest wherever you want. Guessing you need higher taming if you want greater dragons.

The difficult one I intend too use again on my return too UO today :

Not for the faint hearted!

Techno mage
Equipment - Some blessed clothes and GM Armour + slayer instruments.

120 Animal Lore
110 Music
110 Peacemaking
100 Tinkering

95 Magery
60 Mining
65 Taming
60 Meditation
-
11 Stable Slots

2 Vollums
1 Golem

1 Blue Buggly
1 Fire Buggly
1 Iron Buggly
-
Fill the rest with mechanical pets. Used this last time, managed too kill a balron with a golem and a vollum. Its not easy, and when your pets die, they die. GM Armour should do you.

Im guessing theres some Europa residents about that will remember the armourless idiot, and can attest that I did go everywhere more or less item'less.

When it comes to starting. Archer can be a bit much with arrow need. No LAC or LBC on armor yet.

Disco Tamer. Even with a pack of frenzy can start some that fast killing.
