With all the recent posts about IDOC's I decided yesterday afternoon to go out and hunt around and see whats going on. After about 3 hours I only found one house that was "somewhat worn" but then, in a far off spot, I come across what must have been a castle that fell... With no one around at all... Loot everywhere...

After about 2+ hours I was able to get everything that seemed worth anything back to my house. After about 8 hours of sorting this gift box containing 12 Conjurer Garbs was most likely the best box overall. There were hundreds of rares and other valuables though. It was by far my most sucessful day in UO.

Well... I can see that I must either play on the wrong shards or... the game does indeed hate me. Not once have I ever found a great IDOC like that.

I just find it sad that your 'best day in UO' is picking up someone elses trash.

Its not hunting a peerless, its not attending an event, its not getting together with guildmates - yes - the highlight of playing UO is picking up peoples loot that have quit the game.

There you go devs - you want to make your playerbase happy? Just fill a house with rares and drop it each week for idocers. This isn't a fantasy/roleplay game anymore - its about collecting garbage.

This post sums up in a nutshell why this game is on a downward spiral... THIS is what people are playing for.

Well..I didn't mean it was my proudest moment in UO by a long shot.

Since I collected statues I'd say that may be when I got a Red Death Statue from Ilhenir.

I also almost cried in joy when I finally killed my last GraveRobber and got the Meer Warrior Statue.. I have no idea but that was the worst grind I have done.

I do see your point and I guess you are proposing we all let it decay as I am sure you would. And while i do not IDOC that much there are a lot of player who like that aspect of the game.

I find it sad that you even left a comment. He said most successful day for one thing, and who can blame him for that. Hardly garbage, and people have always loved idocs, it's not like they are a new thing. Cheer up!

I fondly recall strolling past a house that fell before my eyes back in 99. It had all sorts of bone armor and other vintage stuff, it was cool then and it's cool now. Took me an hour to loot that bad boy with a constant fear that some other player would come round and kill me...great memory it was.

I had a good IDOC time yesterday on ATL. Did read a message about an IDOC keep. On the way finding that keeps coordinates in Felucca I stumbled over another IDOC. Found the keep and had to leave the PC, since RL called. As I logged in again, keep was already fallen. Anyway grabbed a chest and some other stuff and could recall before getting killed. Wonderful - a box full of snow (piles, balls, ice patches ...).
Back to the other IDOC. While watching it, reds swarmed around, opened a gate and disappeared.
Curious as I was followed through the gate - and found another IDOC. This one fell a bit later and I could get some nice loot (20 roses, bucket of water, some vet reward items and such). The most wonderous thing was, that I never died (one time after succeeding to recall my health bar was fully red and I was poisoned on top, so it was narrow). And I had at least 15 to 20 connection outages due to my Internet connection dropping all the time, reconnecting, lasting 2 min., dropping again ... highly annoying.
Thanks to H0T guild members for the pointer to that IDOC and thanks to Lord Ecstasy for his stuff.
(The other, self found IDOC had not really interesting loot.)

Cool. And your post sums up in a nutshell what's wrong with so much of the playerbase these days. IDOCs, whether or not they're acceptable by your dubious moral standard, are a part of the game. It's also a part of the game that many players enjoy. It's pretty immature to write it off as picking up garbage out of jealousy or misanthropy or whatever it is that motivates people like you to blindly belittle anything that you don't personally consider worthwhile.

The irony is making an ignorant post like that with a BOD reference in your sig. Talk about picking up garbage. I would gladly take this guy's box of garbs over every BOD in your collection without a second thought.

To the OP; enjoyed the story. I love the idea of a castle falling and a random passer-by scoring a fortune while full-time IDOCers kill each other over boxes of nonsense in other parts of the game. Its a funny little world we play in. Congratulations on a great find!

How about we all stop attacking each other about the way we play the game?
One of the beauties of UO is it allows for many different playstyles, none of them more or less valid than any other. Don't attack someone who enjoys a different aspect to yourself.
And don't generalise without cause. The accusation that 'everyone' does any particular thing is extremely annoying to everyone who doesn't do it.
I don't do IDOC's - I'm not a collector or rares dealer and I have enough junk of my own.
I don't do BoDs - I find them boring.
I don't pvp - I don't have the tempermant for it - I don't like making people angry.
However I respect the right of other people to enjoy those activities.
Let's have more mutual respect and a whole lot less mutual derision. hmm?

You completely missed my point.

My point is that the game is so devoid of interesting things to do - people's best times are picking up objects with value for no work. It is essentially like playing slot machines. Stare at your computer screen blindly for hours then scoop up items that you can sell for gold.

Think about advertising that on a game box.

I just know that on Great Lakes about 20-30 people (at least half the playerbase at any given time) have been watching this idoc non-stop for the better part of the weekend. That is what UO has become. There are no other activites that people find more interesting than watching a house *not* fall for days.

In the past - UO was about so much more than sitting around watching IDOC's as the primary activity.

I'm afraid our views of the game are pretty much polar opposites. I can find so many interesting things that I want to do that I don't have enough time to do them all and can't decide which to do first.

Nobody missed your point, it just isn't a valid one. IDOCs have been in the game since the beginning, and the people that love them really really love them. Saying there aren't any other activities people enjoy more is a ridiculous claim, but yes there are people who enjoy it most, and who are you to argue that it's less entertaining than BOD collecting or loot farming or bank sitting?

Just because you have an opinion does not make it the only one, regardless of whatever point you're trying to get across. People so often post "you missed my point" when the reality is they just don't agree with it. Now you know. Merry Christmas.

Some of my best memories are based around collecting other peoples trash. We had some massive fights in fel over Idocs. Fights that would last the entire day. If you never had fun at an IDOC I feel sorry for you. Some of them would get 70-100 people at and the fighting would be manic. Ahh happy days.

I for one love doing idocs. But thats not all I do. Actually I have not been doing many at all in the last year. I am watching the OSI one on GL not camping it.Most of the people camping that seem to be from other shards. I would much rather sit at a idoc than do BODS or bank sit those 2 rank right up at the top of my list as most boring things in the game to do:bored:

I too am watching the GL idoc, but not camping it. I go do Exodus, Lady M, work skills on another character on a different shard, or bomb around Fel. I hope I can be there when it falls, because the owner was an old friend who happened to get me interested in rares collecting years ago. Some of the items in there have a lot of sentimental value to me. However, my UO game time doesn't revolve around it, and if I miss out, so be it. I agree it is mostly being camped by two guilds on GL, and LOTS of folks from other shards.

I've sat at a few IDOCs.
Never been very successful, but without anything else I feel like doing, why wouldn't I hang around at a point of interest?
Sure, people mightn't be doing PvE, PvP, Training skills or crafting.
But, are they all sat there, unmoving, in stoney silence?

I've had some real fun at IDOCs.
It's like PvE, but social.
There's loot at the end of it, but you're not swatting at a pixel monster, you're hanging around with people.

Actually if I never get anything again I was happy with this one. There was a ton of good stuff but I am not sure it there was anything that would be considered "priceless." I got a few items that are on display in the GL house everyone is watching as well as some other interesting things. it was just Christmas early in UO for me that day.
