Maybe Wooden Armor with HCI, dex/stamina and lower mana cost would be nice.

Any jewels with HCI and DCI on them are nice for new players with warriors.

Just make sure whatever it is is not only cheap but lightweight...... remember newbs can't carry much.. nor can they equip much.

and Yes HCI is important more you hit the more you gain. So things that hit fast are good too.

I think the problem you are going to run into is the lack of an in game vendor search feature. If your vendor will not show up on the third party search websites no one will find your shop. And from what i have seen those websites have not been adding new shops in a long time. If you have a spot inside Luna walls they seem to hit those automatically though.

It makes no sense the game does not have vendor search when third party people can figure it out.

Another thing I would suggest, and I'm working on for my own vendors on Lake Austin, are books with information about these new stats, changes to the world, and general tips to help a new or returning player. It could be as simple as a rundown on what stats you're looking for for x template or as detailed as "This is how I got my Dexxer/Mage/Godly character up in skills" as I've seen on some vendors on Atlantic. I know they can google it, but that roleplaying part of me has always loved gathering information through the game only.

As jewels, I'd say go for it. Just be careful of resellers or putting up jewels that would probably make it to a newb's hands only if given by someone (ie stuff going for lots of money).

Hehe. Potions. Ick. So much time spent buying up regs! But that does raise a good question. With the popularity of raised garden beds these days, which potions actually are good sellers these days if someone wanted to set up a potion vendor? And what's the best format for selling potions? I don't think kegs are all that popular these days, so I think most potions are sold in bottles that have been put in deed form. Correct? What kind of prices, though? Mining sand and making the bottles is pretty easy and cheaper than buying them so I wouldn't have to cover the cost of the bottles in the price, as much, if I went the route of crafting my own bottles.

The one fisher character I ever made has been on mothballs for years because she was the only good character I ever had on a house-holding account. I've heard too many horror stories about the fishing quests to want to mess with fishing again! But if I could be tempted into it, which pies sell and what's a good price for them?
To get regs for the potions,I farm mobs that drop it as loot, such as rat mages and liches. Bottles drop as loot on ettins. May be a bit boring to farm ettins, but it is better than mining sand and plus the ettins do drop 190-230 gold each. For the best selling potions,I have seen that I usually run out of the higher poisons and strength and stam potions. I like to use them on my pally/mystic dexxer for that extra hp and swing speed.

That reminds me. Has anyone heard anything more from the dev's regarding progress on this? It really needs to get done, if new players are going to stick around....

Thanks for the feedback, Shakkara.

I've never done anything with making wooden armor before, other than a long, long time ago making someone a suit of the Darkwood armor and they supplied all the expensive ingredients. So I want to make sure you're talking about just the "woodland" armor, imbued with HCI, dex/stamina and LMC? If yes, should it be made from any specific type of wood? There's no way playing solo like I do a lot of the time that I'd ever get my hands on the needed ingredients from peerless to make Darkwood armor, unfortunately! It makes me giggle to think of me trying to solo any peerless.
You need to use heartwood to get HCI on the armour. However, when using heartwood you get random mods from it so it might take a while before you get the HCI.
Don´t think it´s worth the trouble and time for newbie chars though.

The HCI comes from heartwood and is random unfortunately, but you could just make armor pieces to see what property it pumps out and imbue accordingly. Damage increase, luck and even mage armor are nice to have too, if it is mage armor imbue some Mana Regen and LRC, otherwise stick with the dex/sta and LMC. Or even MR too as I really wanted that property as a newbie cause med and focus weren't high and neither were my leech capabilities.

Speaking of which, high-end scrolls really are a thing that I was missing for a long time. It's so hard to find scrolls like Vampiric Embrace...

scrolls like mentioned above, high end ones.
spells books
runebooks.

HCI is good, but its $$ to make that stuff.
that is a relic item to make any bauble with HCI on it.
now if you just load up a vender with stuff you LOOT that thats cool and cheap.

but then you run the risk of people just stopping by your house and buying all the cheap HCI stuff to melt down for relics of their own, haha

its a catch 22

I'm contemplating opening up a shop on Balhae for returning/new players and would like some suggestions/advice on what to stock and suggested prices.
  • !
This is a joke right? Balhea has like 20 players. Its where US players go to run spawns to bring scrolls back. Its a complete ghost town otherwise.

Well, I went for it and created a char on Balhae. There are is almost no support structure available on this shard. I found myself stuck for need of a full magery spellbook followed soon thereafter by a full mysticism spellbook. With those two items, I think I could get an LRC suit together and start training and low-level adventuring.

If you want to make basic suits, i would make armor parts using either dull copper or spined leather since those adds physical resist. A good point for Dull copper is that it adds durability too

The champion spawn south of the Dojo in Tokuno has lots of lizardmen for a dexer to train on.

Shame earth ellies are nice to train on for a bit more advanced characters and drop good items for new players.

I think you just need to do runebook with brit bank, gate, revamped dungeons and some more things like Tjalle said. Also, Solen Hive. Workers at the entrance area are really nice for newbies to whack.

Non-combat Crafter suits made from cursed, brittle/cannot be repaired loot, with high STR bonuses, and/or Mana regen 6+.

STR will help the carrying capacity of any resource gatherer and crafter, while maxing out on Mana regen will help the scribes in training.

Emphasize the suits are not for combat, unless they are willing to replace pieces as they wear out.

Tokuno.

Just N/E of the Homare gate along the road is a safe area with lots of gamans to bash on.

For soaking up player damage, you want the metals that have durability increase as a property, as that increases the points the armor can absorb. Or, just stick with iron. It's more a style thing, and the ingots you'll be using are the most common.

For training the pet, you want the best resists for what the swampy is fighting (probably DC for the physical, unless training its spell resist)

When mounted
  • normal barding is damage reduction 10%
  • Exceptional barding is damage reduction 20%
so, yes, exceptional is better. But, other than the Durability increase for some ingots, there's no difference.

When the swampy is unmounted,
Resists are based on the metal of the barding, each resist being affected as if wearing 5 pieces of plate made of the appropriate metal, added to the base resists of the swampy, but capped at 90%. So, normal iron adds 25/15/10/15/10, normal DC adds 55/15/10/15/10, etc. with an ADDITIONAL 5% per resist (1% x 5) to each resist slot if the armor is exceptional. That would make exceptional Iron 30/20/15/20/15 and exceptional DC 60/20/15/20/15. So, training a swampy against things that inflict Physical damage, to raise its stats, you want it wearing exceptional DC, as it will be at or close to the 90% resist cap. I do not believe combat as a pet (as opposed to being a mount) damages the barding.

Time for a few more dumb questions, this time about dragon barding deeds. Does it make sense to offer them for sale in a shop for new/returning players? If yes, which type of metal makes the most sense for a character that's doing a lot of training and going to be taking a lot of damage, and what's a reasonable price? Is there any advantage to exceptionally crafted ones versus non-exceptional ones? Also, can you use them on unbonded swamp dragons, or is that just kind of a dumb thing to do unless you have gold to burn? I just don't have a lot of experience with using swamp dragons. I know how to make the dragon barding deeds, but have never really made a lot of them because I'm not usually sitting on a lot of extra ingots of any type.
Yes, returning players who are making melee chars will potentially use dragon barding deeds. I know I do. And yes, there is a difference between exceptional and non-exceptional. Exceptional bardings absorb 20% of damage while non-exceptional only absorb 10%. It is worth it in my opinion to use an ASH to guarantee exceptional bardings. For basic uses (and even advanced for the most users), iron is the only material you need to stock regularly. IMO, 750 ingots for anything other than iron is not worth it. You can put your barding a on a non-bonded swampy, but i usually don't bother. I drop my swamp dragons in the stables a week while I work up supporting skills like 0-70 bushido, chivalry, and necromancy (for sampires).
