Clean Shard?

I was curious to know if this has ever been considered. Could a fresh new shard be created, one that has a completely clean slate. A shard that character transfers in or out are not permitted. A shard that plays by all the normal rules, but does not permit the purchase of game codes either. A whole new word with new spaces for real estate, keeping with the one hourse per account policy.

I just feel that if there were no game codes, no mystic tokens, no transfers, no way to get gold in to the shard other than by killing monsters, might be a good opportunity for a new sandbox that many would enjoy.

Just a thought, and I know that shard population is low on most shards, but adding a new isolated shard from all the others may be a good thing. Any thoughts on this?

I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but there is a shard that, while not playing by the normal rules, fits all the other criteria you just listed.

Got that. But, once again, normal rules. Plus, I can't say when the shard you mentioned first appeared, maybe time for another....that's all.

That would ba shard with more then one character slot. If it is one character slot then there should be an NPC that gives out free soulstones. SPs state is an example of different taste.
So, seven characters vs 7 accounts. Being able to mine in peace even after the school buses have been run. Two fine points SP fails at.

If your refering to TC shard. A shard that is constant refresh restart. This is the perfect shard they should have as F2P. Isolated and don't have to take anything serious there. TC is a fail with the new Alt revert. TC is a way to find holes in what is new. For some that hope it gets to go live and they suffer no wipe or no revert.

Be more then one new shard. Players one the other side of the planet wont enjoy their connection.

Sweeten the deal by charge extra to play on the shard for GMs that are priority there and police and observe players gaming. Having no transfers to the shard is to try avoid other shards economies from ruining a new shard. Even a fresh shard will catch up fast without the BS being stopped. BS: bot scripting.

An area of UO gameplay where everyone starts same fresh start. But not have the headache of retraining another character on skills "Been there, done that boredom" Why I started a thread on a New Land mass on the current shards. My threads OP needs a fine tuning that I was going to do. Just got bashed by narrow minded one liners with no reason but to defend greed and lazyness.

Just have the "it is only a game or pixels" arguement. Everyone places a value on their time be it an hour gardening or curing cancer. Why some playing UO get so bent on losses. A new shard without a repete of went wrong on your old shard will prevent it from taking off. A shard that is an island on itself is a huge opportunity for profit. Everything that makes current shards tarnished, would happen faster on a fresh shard.

That just means a shard where most folk will be low on skill for awhile but where those who have WAY too much time on their hands will quickly dominate...

Especially those of us who know the in's and out's of character building.... you do know that for MONTHS there will be NO Tamers on the shard.... Everyone else will be able to work up a character pretty quickly and within a week be dominating the landscape but Tamers will be SO far behind it won't even be funny. Since pretty much EVERY other skill has some way of gaining quickly but Tamers never have... they have been forced to the realm of some of the slowest gains ever for so long... Many skills gain whether you succeed or fail.... taming is only gained from success.... many skills you can work on the same item over and over and over again..... even Imbuing... taming you have to have a new beast for every tame... Spawn rates of some things is VERY low.... so not only is finding what you need to get gains slow but so are the gains... Nearing GM it slows to such a crawl that many just work it once per day for GGS point. It's almost as fast as continued effort.

I see your point, but a tamer with 50 taming can grab two bouras and still do quite a bit of damage.

The tamer would have a hell of a time getting gold to work another skill up to compensate while having lame pets for a long time. However it'll be darn near impossible for them to work up much at all because they won't have a 100% LRC suit to do things in.

Kind of like how Origin shard started out and was fun until it was opened up for xfrs and regular shard junk. Taming is pretty easy up to 80-82 then the gains become a nightmare. On a good day of taming you will get the GG and maybe gain per two hours unless you are really lucky then you might get a gain a every hour and a half of intense taming. Always thought taming should have a chance at a gain on fails like other skills do. Taming would still be slow but it would level the playing field a little bit for those of us who love our pets.

A bit off topic, but I was a bit miffed when the Devs used the Halloween shard 3 (I think it was 3) years ago to test the idea of a classic shard and wrote it off when there was "not enough activity." We stopped playing when a series of bugs appeared that affected gameplay and they promised a fix. I know one of those bugs caused vendors to go grey and thus killable. Not to mention that shard was supposed to go until the end of December that year, and was instead deleted a month early for above reason.

As for a clean shard, I agree with a lot of the statements about Animal Taming. My main on LA is a tamer, and I've just this morning gotten her to 106 taming. I LOVE my tamer, and that's really the only template I play consistently, so I would be wary of moving to a clean shard with the promise of the same grind for years just to get my taming up again.

That's true only if you insist on only hunting with top level pets and measure your self worth by your level of l33tn3ss. But relatively low level tamers can hunt effectively with grizzlies and scorpions... and though frenzies aren't the murderous little [censored]s they were between pub 16 and AoS, they're still very effective in the hands of a skilled tamer.

But it's those selfsame low level tamers that will be most effected by the loss of Despise and Shame...

Without first getting rid of cheating (scripting, hacking, duping etc.....) it would be a waste of resources, IMHO.

What is the point of creating a brand new Shard were players can compete against each other anew when the game still has lots of possible ways to cheat and beat the competition ?

First make getting rid of cheating a priority, get rid of it, and THEN, only THEN, consider creating a brand new Shard.

That's at least as I see it.

Indeed... Within 72 hours of (IIRC) Lake Austin opening (which was no xfers for the first 30 days, no adv chars, etc...) people were placing castles because they were using scripts to exploit a bug.

Yeah all we need is yet another shard to thin the population... If you want to talk about server mergers that sounds good. If you want a clean slate join the other 5 people that play seige
