Now if a box is locked by the trinker and trapped, then mage unlocks so it can set off, then relocks with the lock spell the dart would go off and the box would stay closed. Now it opens every time and gets in the way!!!

This sucks i feel! Trapped boxes have been that way for along time, why decide to make them like this now?

well..... truth be told the whole trap box thing IS a bug.
its funny that no one really has ever bitched about it.
a 120 mage with 120 eval rolls up and para's you.
your a dexxer with 0 magic skill and 0 resist and you just hit your hotkey for your trap box and you roll on without even missing a step.
that kinda sounds 'buggy' to me.
kinda defeats the whole paralyze spell and para field if ya ask me.

actually now that i think more about it, im rather shocked that they still allow trap boxes.
why?
well, when we as Poisoners complained that our 100 skill points in poisoning where a waste because everyone and their dog just chugged a pot and they where cured. so what did they do?
they revamed the cure pots and cure spells to the level of poison that the person that hit you had.
perfect balance IMHO.

so why let this 'trap box' thing live?
it is rather game unbalancing.
seriously. if i didnt have a trap box on every one of my guys id be dead meat to even a fledgling mage with a paralyze spell and a attitude.

im not complaining about trap boxes, im just stating a truth-ism.

Yeah I agree Poo.

I use trapped boxes on not only some of my PvP chars but also in PvM and hell I even carry them on chars that do have resist spells just because you can break a para faster with a 0 skill box than by having invested 120 skill points.

devs, anyone know what is going on with trapped items? some items such as chests in dungeons you can not unlock the chest. After removing trap, the chests just say "this item appears to be locked", Instead of either going off, or being removed. The same goes for faction trapped containers.

Uh what is a faction trapped container? If the item is trapped and locked use lockpicking to pick the lock then try opening it? Just because you remove the trap doesn't mean you have unlocked it.

you can put a faction trap on any box. I put them on my warrior, and if i get ganked and die, they have to deal with a 60 pt explotion, or lethal nox only curable by bandaid. Its kind of my this is what you get for ganking me presents :>

oops, sorry, for clarification. i was making some last night, and none would work.

Truth is not being told by your post, you are stating an opinion. Truth is the fact the mechanic here is one using the damage taken by opening a trapped box to break paralysis is legal. You are making a decision to take self inflicted damage. Without a way to break paralysis, pvp would be more out of balance in favor of mages over dexxers. If you didn't take damage from the trapped box then I might agree with your opinion. Please refrain from stating moderator opinions as truth, its not fair to those who can't discern between the two.

No offense bud but your opinion appears to be a bit biased no matter what you add about poison/potions.

Why in the world should any mage be able to instantly render anyone completely immobile for a long enough time to kill them without fail? Thats ridiculous. Pre-cast para offscreen and surprise kill someone because they dont have 120 resist? Lmao

I guess then you also believe that if a mage does not have wrestle or parry he should be able to be completely immobilized by a warrior and killed in the same short amount of time?
Because that would make sense as far as your lame argument is concerned.

No problem though. I have your solution.
Lets remove trapped boxes and the equally ridiculous sc mage weps from the game at the same time. Even though the para spell would still be stupidly overpowered I would be more then fine with that.

Even better yet though lets examine your 120 resist issue as it pertains to the Curse spell. You quite clearly imply that a warrior should have 120 resist to negate your para spell but please answer me why my warrior with 120 resisting spells still loses a ton of resist when hit with a no-cost, spammable spell such as Curse?

The Curse spell is one of the most ridiculous and overpowered things in the game my friend. Not your trapped box.

k, open up any spell book and leaf through it till ya get to circle 5 spells, on that page your gonna see a spell called 'paralyze', THATS what gives mages the ability to.... oh how did you put it, render anyone completely immobile. stomping your feet and yelling like a 2 year old who dosnt get a candy isnt gonna change the fact that is how the game was made.

a mage has a choice, run protection and cast slow or dont run it and risk being knocked out of casting..... so yes, a warrior can and does tangle up a mage and kill him just as fast, i fail to see YOUR lame argument.

at the end of the day lets talk about what really has your panties in a knot.
your upset because if they killed trap boxes youd a) have to work up 120 resist which you cant do in haven anymore in 2 hours and b) it would ruin your dexxer template.

yes, so lets let a bug continue on in game just because we dont wanna have to make you change your template.
because i pay my $12 a month so YOU can get what you want and not whats better for the game.

Really I don't know what purpose crafter trapped boxes would serve. I doubt even a role player would complain if they removed them.
Sure would be a lot of angry PvPers though.
Course, they removed invis items from the game because they "effectively negated a whole skill" so I don't know why they'd leave the boxes in.
Resisting spells should be more effective at resisting spells though.

lol No. That quote was actually from Mr Tact I think. So before there was such a thing as invis pots (if I have my timeline right). By invis items I meant like robes/cloaks/sandals/jewelry etc.

While you are definitely entitled to an opinion, you can't have it both ways, if you start out with a statement "well..... truth be told the whole trap box thing IS a bug." you are stating it as a fact and you have a moderator tag. It's not the truth be told phrase that is the problem, it is the emphasis on "IS a bug". You are emphatically stating your opinion as fact and the fact you are a moderator lends credibility to any statement you make. "In my opinion" would have been a better phrase to open with to avoid any confusion. Stratics isnt only read by jaded veterans and "kids", there are new players that seek knowledge here too. If it wasn't for Stratics I probably would never have played the game.

Really I don't know what purpose crafter trapped boxes would serve. I doubt even a role player would complain if they removed them.
I'll take the bait, why do things in the game that are perfectly legal and you happen to not use or disagree with the item's viability or importance need to be removed? In case you haven't noticed, topics discussed here are read by the developers and lead to things being nerfed that really shouldn't be, hence this discussion about trapped boxes. By the way, crafter trapped boxes are used to train lockpicking, used to kill other players, and I am sure there are several role play uses for them as well. I keep GM ones in my pack in case I get killed, just for the satisfaction of knowing my assailant might die of curiosity and allow me to loot him when I return to my corpse.

Invis items are still viable and used in pvp by those who manage to have kept them all this time, another item that shouldn't have been removed from the game.

i just cant wrap my head around the fact that you honesty think that a trap box isnt a bug.
i can understand that you may not like it if they ever fix it, hell I WONT LIKE IT, but i refuse to believe that you dont honestly think its a bug.
a helpful bug, yes, but at the end of the day when its mother is tucking it into bed and patting it on its little head she leans over and gives it a kiss on its BUGGY HEAD! its a bug i say!

I can't agree it's a bug. Damage removes paralysis, trapped boxes do damage. If they didn't do damage you'd have a valid argument. The fact the damage is a random amount also lends to the fact is not a bug, people kill themselves all the time using the trapped box instinctively when their health is too low.

I really hope they do the right thing with all of the people who transferred to and from Atlantic. I personally lost 15m in profits and a new character so it's not a big deal. But I have friends that transferred everything to Atlantic and having nothing now; no items, no characters, nothing! One would think there would be a detailed record and backup of everything that has been transferred at least for the last 30 days.

would you still be fighting for the validity of trap boxes if they did a min of 50 points of damage instead of 2?

just wondering.

Yes, as opposed to removing them from the game. I am vehemently against any change though.

And another reason the trapped box is legitimate is the fact you can not insure it. Therefore in pvp if you want to temporarily prevent someone from using their trapped box you can kill them and loot the box. Most of the time they will leave the battlefield to replenish the items you looted. It is definitely not a bug.

I keep GM ones in my pack in case I get killed, just for the satisfaction of knowing my assailant might die of curiosity and allow me to loot him when I return to my corpse.

My bad bud. I was going on the assumption that you actually knew basic pvp mechanics :(

1) Trapped boxes are not broken or bugged. They are a mechanic that works as intended. Open up YOUR spellbook and you will see a spell in there that allows boxes to be locked and unlocked.

2) If you actually were an unbiased pvper you would have understood my para spell vs resisting spells analogy.
Removing any ability to break a pre-casted Para spell would leave anyone without the resisting spells skill completely helpless and 100% dead everytime to even an unskilled mage on his first day playing UO. That is not what the devs ever intended.
My analogy simply said that if you believe that is okay and fair then a warrior should have a completely equal counter/move to do the same to his foe if his foe does not have a warrior-defense skill such as parry or wrestling or a weapon skill(which obviously many mages do not have in todays UO because of the ridiculously unbalanced and overpowered sc mage wep)
What I find even funnier is that even when warriors had a decent and chainable para move on their weps every mage in the game whined about it for so long it got nerfed and now weapon paras are all messed up.

3) I run 120 resist on at least half of my warrior templates. Whats your point?

4) You honestly believe that a warrior "tangles" up a mage and kills him as sure and fast as para on a non-resisting warrior? Wow.
Last time I checked para can be pre-cast offscreen and doesnt 'whiff'

*shakes head*

I'm not sure what you're upset about, if you have 120 resist a mage can't stop you. Rolls reversed a mage could have 120 resist and they still get para'd by a warriors which also deals damage while the mages does not.

You are always crying about mage weps, I notice you never say anything about UBW or how over powered glaves are ect. Disarm them if you hate them that much and they will get hit 99% of the time, if you can't kill them like that you're bad.

Maybe you should run 120 on all your chars if you hate being para'd so much, resist renders a lot of mage spells worthless like what happens with para. It's your own fault for being bad and trying to use something instead of MAGIC RESIST, you know to RESIST MAGIC spells. Last time I checked a mage can't put on a skill to negate a warriors para blow that deals damage of a weapon hit and hit spell(s).

Flutter I think boxes should stay because then there would be no counter to EO para ganks. I'm against one thing being a be all end all. At that point you could just have more numbers and time your EO paras. No thanks, that would force people to play with large numbers and not all of us like that.

As usual you have reading comprehension issues bud.

I personally have no issue at all with trapped boxes or the para spell in particular. Read my posts in this thread bud.

I do have issues though with some non-pvp clown whining about trapped boxes for no other reason then he foolishly believes that a mage should be able to do nothing other then cast a 5th level spell to totally immobilize a character long enough to kill him every time. Its so ludicrous its hard to believe.

And lol to you if you honestly believe that UBW is equivalent to sc mage weps and any kind of serious factor in pvp. But since you are trying to compare them bud lets just do the obvious. Take away sc mage weps and UBW at the same time.
Lets see who cries and threatens to quit then.
Ouch.

The reason why they haven't "fixed" dart trapped boxes is because of the problem that is Evil Omen. EO+Para against a char with 120 Resist lasts long enough to drop an X-Field on that person, and allows you to kill them at your leisure. EO might as well completely negate someone's Resist skill, since halving their Resist more than halves their chance to Resist any spell, whether it's Para, Poison or Mana Vamp. EO is castable at full power with as few as 20.0 points in Necro (Or JoAT). The Paralyze spell also has no Diminishing Returns, while the Paralyzing Blow special does.

Ouch.
The only way someone could cast a 5th level spell and have it work is if the other player didn't have resist. With resist it negates many spells, including paralyze. So I'm not sure what you're crying about, you're upset that if some idiot has no resist he can be paralyzed? Well that moron should get resist, problem solved.

So they both don't take one skill to get an equivalent? The answer is yes, they both do.

All you would have is mages that could not be disarmed and dexers that realize they should have been happy going against mage weps instead of those who don't need them. Since they aren't getting rid of either you should stop crying about it, you've been doing that for a long time.
